Step 4. Tumblr blogger
Step 5. ???
Step 6. Blame men
Step 7. Silently assassin women who do not support your stupid interpretation of women's rights and feminism.

No no, modern activism is properly done as follows:

1. Identify cause
2. Create buzz
3. Repeat step 2.

A classic formula. Just remember to never, under any circumstances, actually do anything to change the cause from step 1.

How does this campaign solve the problem besides generating some buzz? I mean, this doesn't change anything

I'd be more inclined to agree with mister marine if he wasn't such a condescending asshole about his position.

I think it's the flippant context of the article that portrays him as an asshole. His blog post (I linked earlier) is better.

I'm a cyclist, and I'll say that cyclists that don't follow the rules of the road shouldn't be on the streets, just like drivers. Fuck drivers that go out of their way to be assholes by not sharing the road.

It's pretty hard to call others sperglords while you're posting a gif of a guy licking a rooster's asshole.

Good for you for getting out there socially and looking to grow yourself philosophically and spiritually.

Personally, I would've chosen your local Scientology sect to learn about our great Lord Xenu, but your choice is fine too, I guess.

"I Am A Strange Loop", by Douglas Hofstadter

Recently finished Ray Bradbury's "The Illustrated Man".

News / Re: The End of Anarchy (or is it?)
« on: April 01, 2015, 09:52:52 PM »
Coupled with that are the hurt feelings and grudges that live on after Anarchy ends. In theory, asking you all to compartmentalize your Anarchy experience from your Sep7agon experience worked, but in practice, the more vocal and naughty members carry over some of that into both on and off-site places.

You could randomize usernames and avatars, giving all posters a pseudonym (or assign them an actual user's profile settings to be forced to post as someone else), or make all posting anonymous. You could still attack other members, but at least then rivalries wouldn't be so bad. That would lend itself further to separating Anarchy from the rest of the forum.

i've never watched any of this guy's videos before
is level of insight seems rather sound, but the rapid fire delivery turns me off

It's his shtick. He's got a written version called Extra Punctuation that is basically a script of the video.

He's pretty explicitly mocking the notion that trauma could stem from racism or discrimination.
You're reading too much into it; he's clearly denouncing instances of racism and discrimination which are obviously not traumatic.

Look, call people pussies or whatever it takes, but some people do in fact become traumatized through discrimination, and flippant remarks that they belong in a psych office instead of a college campus are just dumb.

I looked up the actual essay the quote was sourced form, and it's much more cogent than this article. I have no idea why they didn't even link the source material.

Time doesn't heal all wounds, but Alzheimer's sure takes a crack at it.

C'mon...you don't have to be in a helo crash to have legitimate gripes against how society treats minorities. Of course there's exaggeration, but there are legitimate claims of trauma outside of combat zones.
He's not denying that.

Yes, he is.

Quote
“Trauma now seems to be pretty much anything that bothers anyone, in any way, ever. And the worst “trauma” seems to come not from horrible brushes with death like I described above; instead, they’re the result of racism and discrimination,” Hernandez wrote.

$500 says she thinks transmen shouldn't be killed.

Are you saying transmen aren't men? Bigot.
Dat profile pic

Which one?

Yeah, it's been known that attendance was mandatory for some of the crowd for a while. His speech was a surprise, after all, so it was a good way to get a big crowd. I'm not sure what this has to do with anything, though. It was a really good speech, whether the auditorium was packed or empty.

Also, lol:
Quote
University President Jerry Falwell Jr. addressed the Convocation requirement in a separate statement after Cruz’s address. "Convocation speakers do not all line up with traditional Evangelical Christian viewpoints or even Liberty University’s doctrinal statement. A fundamental part of the college experience is being exposed to a variety of viewpoints so students can better understand why they hold their own beliefs and be better prepared to defend them."

As if a Ted Cruz speech is giving them a variety of viewpoints.

I still don't understand what the problem is. It doesn't even say anything about discriminating against customers. Why is the bakery example still even going around?

« on: April 01, 2015, 11:29:01 AM »
Don't make a point of it.

If you make it seem like a big thing, it can appear to look like you're trying to accommodate it (like it's a hassle) with your own beliefs, rather than just being laid back and a simple "Your homosexual? Oh Ok" statement.

That's the plan, I just don't know how to broach it without making a big deal of it.

6351
Just because there are games where that sort of thing happens doesn't mean that that's what feminists want, or say that you "have" to have in your game, in order for them to be appeased.

Oh, yeah. I agree with that. I'm just pointing out the ironic trend of integrating LGBT characters in the norm of video games by highlighing their differences and making it the focal point of their entire characterization.

6352
Don't forget the part where minority characters have to have their minority characteristic be their entire character arc. AKA any gay/trans/racial minority Bioware character.
That's not true either.

Played any Bioware games lately? There are at least three main characters whose entire personal arc revolves around their sexual orientation in DA:I alone. It's fine for these arcs to exist, and Dorian's in DA:I is particularly good, but when that's all that's explored about the person, it kind of defeats the point.

6353
I think even Israel realizes a two-state solution is the best outcome, but until Hamas is gone there's simply no possibility of that happening. To abandon Israel, our closest ally in the Middle East, and try to force this solution down their throats would be very unwise. The administration would have to legitimize the Palestinian leadership, which is currently partnered with/manipulated by a huge terrorist organization; I don't see that happening, especially during an election cycle.

I question the legitimacy of these rumors.

That was really funny. He's a great entertainer, but he tends to surround himself with people that will laugh at his jokes and parrot his opinions back to him while patting each other on the back, and it's that vacuousness to his show that I find insufferable.

Serious / Re: The Iraq War
« on: April 01, 2015, 10:15:00 AM »
Are you referring to 9/11? That had nothing to do with the Iraq war.
As I've already said a lot of times in this thread, it's foolish to believe that post-9/11 fearmongering did not play a part in the US government's justification of the Iraq war. I've yet to see anyone actually counter that claim, considering the obvious evidence supporting it.

Does it really need to be refuted? The Iraq War began in 2003 -- 2 years after the invasion of Afghanistan, in retaliation for 9/11. There's really no evidence of involvement at all, since the U.S. had at the time an ongoing offensive against the group that perpetrated 9/11.

You might have to have your head literally buried in the sand while you play to miss that reference.
