Serious / Women should be in infantry

Women in Ranger School fail to finish grueling course
Quote
All eight women vying to become the first female Army Rangers failed to complete the requirements to go on to the next phase of the grueling course, the Army said.

The women were admitted to the two-month class as part of a broader effort by the Pentagon to lift the ban on female soldiers serving in "ground combat" jobs, such as the infantry.

Initially, 19 women had volunteered to enter the course when it was opened to women last month. Of those, 11 failed to complete the first four-day phase of the course.
Fourteen women have tried, and failed, the Marines’ Infantry Officer Course. Here’s why.
Quote
But there came a point when I could not persuade my body to perform. It wasn’t a matter of will but of pure physical strength. My mind wanted more, but my muscles quivered in failure after multiple attempts. I began to shiver as I got cold. I was told I could not continue.

“If members of our military can meet the qualifications for a job — and let me be clear, I’m not talking about reducing the qualifications for the job . . . then they should have the right to serve,” then-Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said when he rescinded the direct-combat exclusion rule last year.

Last IOC in Marine infantry experiment drops female officers
Quote
The two-and-a-half year period in which the Marine Corps' Infantry Officer Course became gender-integrated for research will end without a single female graduate.

The final iteration of IOC to accept female Marines on a volunteer basis began April 2 with two female participants. One was a volunteer and one was a member of the newly integrated ground intelligence track.

Both were dropped that same day during the grueling initial Combat Endurance Test

...Only if they meet the standards. Which they can't. Sorry ladies; it's not sexist to say that the well-above-average woman cannot meet the standards of strength of endurance required. And that's not disparaging -- the vast majority of men can't, either.

What are you talking about?

Bungie is making another Marathon game

Is there any actual news besides the undeveloped rumor in 2012?

Bloodborne apparently offers little customisation and variety compared to the previous games

Kind of a double-edged sword. There is almost no useless gear now, since each set can be used in different applications or mixed and matched to optimize for certain encounters, but that also means a bit less uniqueness. That being said, I think this game has more fun pieces of armor than Souls games. The magic is also more stylized rather than generic energy or fire balls. And while you won't be picking up brand new weapons very often, the weapons you can use are fantastically designed. The first weapon I picked (you get one of three at the start) was a sword cane that transformed into a whip, and I used it the whole game. I switched primarily to what is essentially the Moonlight Greatsword which transforms into a smaller, quicker sword, but I found the cane useful in many situations. I think that's really cool, and it shows more thought was put into the weapons this time around. And don't worry, because most of the beloved Souls weapons are still there, with several really cool additions (an electric mace and a spear with a gun attached, for example).

Hey Flee, Bloodborne is amazing. It's got even better level design than Dark Souls

....Hmm

As a person who has played both thoroughly, I don't think I agree with this.
It's unquestionably better than DkS 2, but I'm specifically talking about how the whole world logically connects. Though it's lacking something as intricate as Blighttown, it's amazing to climb a series of ladders in the deepest, darkest parts of Yharnam's undercity just to pop up right where the game started. Stuff like that.

Hanging leg raises.

Literally the best core exercise there is. I prefer the variant of toes/knees to the bar.
i need to start adding weight so my core can progress further but im unsure, should i hold a dumbbell between my feet, weighted ball, kettlebell?? which would you say is most practical?

I'd be concerned about dropping the weight and damaging the floor. Maybe you could use resistance bands by tucking one under each leg of the tower and then looping them over your ankles? When I do bodyweight exercises and want to increase difficulty, I just do them slower and pause in the middle. For pushups I do 4-4-4, so I take 4 seconds to get down, pause in the bottom (off the ground), then 4 seconds up. You could do the same thing with leg raises and it'll basically do the same thing as a weighted rep.

Oh, and her fucking "listening tour", i.e., photo ops of her in a key state pretending to care what middle-class Iowans think while not answering a single question about her platform. If she gets elected we'll deserve all the consequences.

I haven't read the whole thread so I'm not sure if this has already been addressed, but if slut-shaming causes emotional pain, and all suffering is objectively bad, then I think you've got your explanation.
I don't think anyone can say all suffering is objectively bad, because that would make criticizing immoral acts itself immoral.

I'm fairly certain that Verb ascribes to the philosophy that suffering is inherently bad, and if something appears painful but has utility it isn't suffering. I might be completely off-base though.

Clinton's corruption is so widespread and public that people just stopped giving a shit. She's totally unlikable in speeches, refuses to answer questions during her campaign, is constantly defensive and shady during interviews, and has done nothing to assuage the growing concerns that the Clinton Foundation is anything but a way to give and receive kickbacks for favors.

Serious / Re: One thing I do like about Bernie Sanders
« on: May 30, 2015, 04:24:13 PM »
I'm pretty mixed on Sanders. I think the current viral advertising that is catching on is extremely annoying, as it's entirely based around macros with out of context quotes, often not backed by a voting record. He's anti-nuclear, and thinks social security isn't going down the drain, which seems to indicate a total ignorance of economics with respect to the government. I don't think I'd vote for a president based on social issues, as societies pretty much always trend towards liberal and progressivism, so things like marriage equality, drug legalization, and egalitarianism are going to be passed by Congress regardless of who's in the Oval Office. His foreign policy record is consistent, but it's consistently stupid. He seems to be largely against policy that increases globalization of trade, and I think he's stuck in the past with fervent support for unions and education policy.

Oh, is milk good to drink? Because I drink a shit ton

High in fat and sugar, low in protein. I mix it into my protein shakes, but by itself it's not a particularly healthy drink.

Holy shit, my grandpa has this.. The guy is a beast, he can still do pullups n shite at 80 years old, the thing is from the 80s though so its not that stable.. How cheap do they go for?

Check Craigslist, but I got a nice one from a sports store for $120. Ones with less padding will go for less.

Pullups are life. A cheap pullup/dip bar will go a long way.
^^ this

If you have the budget for a power tower, you have the pullup, dip bar and the other side for core workouts. Highly recommend if you're willing to pay money for equipment.

Yeah, I've got one of those I can attest to its usefulness. Spend half an hour on it each night (pullups, dips, pushups, core stuff) and it's great.

Once you can do 10 good-form pullups, add weight with resistance bands or a vest.

Glorious peasant sunbro stuck to aging console.

I'm at the point where I can comfortable buy a new console if I wanted, but if you're at all on the fence about a PS4, I can assure you that Bloodborne is worth the investment.

« on: May 30, 2015, 11:03:47 AM »
Bitch, I have an all steel body. You think I'm afraid of shit? Trucks move outta fear of me, son.

My wife (then-girlfriend) used to drive a Yukon XL, and she got t-boned by a brand new Camaro going about 50mph (with a mother and her kids in the car, of course) running a red light, and while the Camaro was totaled (no injuries), her Yukon  only had a slight dent in the door. It was a thing of beauty.

Yeah, crumple zones and tissue-paper vehicles save lives but there's something to be said about 3 tons of steel keeping the world at bay.

Level 84, stuck on Ebrietas. If you're >94, I can level up a few times with the echoes I already have or farm some more quickly. Random matches keep dying, and I've fought this boss at least ten times solo. Can't survive the charge attack.

Hop on and help a turkey out. Username's HurtfulTurkey. I'll make a password once I know someone's willing.

I didn't know a fucking yellow light counted as a red color and being in the middle of the street when the light turned red warrants a [ticket]
Maybe retake driver's ed, because the buffer zone people like to imagine let them speed through yellow lights doesn't exist.
I don't run through yellow lights, this one I had to since I had no time to brake and stop, so I had to keep going to prevent any crash behind me or risk sticking the front of my car out in the open.

You claim you couldn't stop your car in time, but also that the light changed as you were half way through the intersection. Whatever your story is, you still ran a red light and as much as it sucks, you're not going to win an appeal.
Not with that attitude.

Those cameras exist solely to fuck drivers out of cash to fill budgets. Go ahead and appeal; good luck.

Who cares? Why am I gonna listen to an MRA talk about "male privilege" when he's gonna say some asinine shit like that?

Because it's a tad bit hypocritical to constantly be pointing out the flaws in peoples' arguments while simultaneously rejecting a cogent and thorough discussion backed with cited data because he went on a stupid rant about a completely different subject. Of course you're welcome to dismiss him, and I think it's silly to expect anyone here to watch more than 5 minutes of that video, but you can't strut around as a paragon of logic while falling victim to your own strong personal biases.
