Apparently so. I am taking my phone though, so we'll see.

Neat. Have fun, if that's the intention.

Moore's Law isn't really about technological progress, it's about the efficiency of components. Eventually (and soon) we'll reach a point where we can't make processors any smaller; that point isn't singularity.

Singularity will be more of a biological evolution than a technological one. We'll have the technology to reach it far before we actually understand the human brain and how (or if) AI is achievable.

Had the same thing happen to me when I forgot to dump out my water bottle. It's a nice aluminum nalgene bottle, so I wasn't going to throw it away. Drank the whole thing in front of the TSA guy, then had to go back through security.

The Flood / Re: An infinite-sided die is rollled infinite times
« on: August 25, 2015, 03:57:20 PM »
Actually, the probability of rolling any of the sides would be zero.
can you explain why pls

Dice follow a uniform probability distribution, meaning each event in its interval has constant probability. For a six-sided die, that probability is 1/6. The formula for a uniform distribution is:

P(x) = 1/(b-a),

P(x) means the probability of event x occurring.
'b' is the upper limit of the interval (for the six-sided die, b = 6)
'a' is just the lower limit of the interval

Without going into too much complexity, you're basically left with the probability of any event being 1/infinity, which is zero. (And that's just fudging the numbers...you can't divide by infinity, but I'm leaving out the calculus involved in that process.)

Going into more depth, any probability distribution at a high enough number of trials becomes a normal distribution, which looks like a typical bell curve. For a continuous random variable (which is what we have here), the probability of any single event occurring is zero, for the aforementioned reasons. Instead statisticians ask, "what's the probability of a group of events occurring?" Here you could ask, "what's the probability of rolling a side from 1 - 100,000,000?" I don't know what that answer is, and I suspect any interval also has a probability of zero, because any set of an infinite interval is negligible by comparison.

Fancy, eh?

Starfleet trash. An Imperial-1 Class would make short work of such a meager vessel.

Just a reminder that the Enterprise-A was perfectly capable of destroying a planet by itself, whereas the only thing capable of that feat alone in the SW universe is the Death Star. And the Enterprise isn't even a warship.

Non-canon tech manuals aside, ST ships are actually orders of magnitude more powerful than those in SW.

Well it depends on what you mean by "destroy." If you're referring to completely blowing the planet up, like the Death Star, then yeah. But if you're talking about simply rendering the planet uninhabitable by reducing it's surface to molten slag, then a Star Destroyer is capable of that as well.
No, I mean it could completely annihilate a planet.

ignore the fags telling you to harden up and be a content nerd

you're supposed to have fun now

Get out and have sex. This is college so there will be lots of fags.

Make an art major friend and get around through him or her. Make all the friends you possibly can. Get phone numbers and names and social media adds WHENEVER you can.

You're a faggy computer science fag gay shit autism major, so you're disadvantaged socially, but that isn't hard to overcome.

This is like, the worst advice ever. If you want to be working for hourly pay in four years, feel free to slack off in college.

I'm going to make Vault 101 - no one ever enters. And no one ever leaves.

Well, I'll allow my lunchbox characters in.

But otherwise, it's my new experiment.

That's actually a good way to avoid deathclaws. No radio and no opening the vault = no attacks. And later in the game exploring really doesn't yield too much.

I'm yet to go beyond 30 dwellers

Like, I will be doing fine then within the space of ten minutes, all my food or water runs out and my dweller happiness begins to tank

Trying getting a 2:1 supply/demand ratio. The bar for each resource shouldn't be further than halfway.

It never is. It's just that whenever I can 'harvest' a new lot of food or whatever, it barely take sit out of the red, which in turn creates a self-sustaining thing where the happiness plunges and it takes longer to get resources.

IT probably doesn;t help I rarely have more than about three people with any stats above, like ,1.

I don't remember what population is required for training rooms, but it's pretty safe to pull people out of resource rooms to train them up overnight. Happiness will drop, but it'll come back when you put them back in. I generally train at night and put them back in rooms during the day.

Hadn't considered that.

I'm usually scared to pull anyone out of resource management, lest the levels tank while I'm away.

This game's pretty smart. It shuts down resource use after maybe 10 minutes away, but timed things like training and exploration keep going. So you'll stop using resources but train all night. It's pretty safe, and either way your dwellers aren't going to die from starvation or thirst.

Or maybe they're using a better form of media storage such as memory cartridges, e.g. the DS. I doubt they'd just put games on a flash drive and package that, but I could see them using some sort of proprietary storage other than discs.

However, while the console in the patent doesn't include an optical drive, it does mention a read/write card slot that can read from devices "such as an SD memory card."

I'm at 85 dwellers, an upgraded and staffed radio room, and several explorers coming and going. So I've been getting 5-6 deathclaw attacks per day, almost always when I get a new dweller from the radio. Many of these are nearly back to back, taking place within 10 minutes of each other because people are coming or going. They only get through my second floor and rarely kill anyone, but it just seems excessive at this point. They're really disruptive and the UI is garbage for handling real time incidents.

Anyone else getting annoyed by these? Is there any way to decrease their rate of occurrence besides shutting down my radio room?

My nigga

OT:

Clubs, intramural sports, and religious groups are great. Look online for your college's clubs and activities and I'm sure you'll find something. If you're not athletic enough for sports or just aren't interested, try things like casual running clubs, spin classes, yoga, or martial arts. I met a lot of great people in a jiu jitsu club during my time in college. Frats aren't a bad option either, just look for technical degree frats or just general non-bro frats.

If your roommate is really an issue, talk to the manager of your dorm and see about moving. They're usually pretty accommodating.
You're doing the same thing? Any advice?

My degree was in industrial engineering, which is engineering with a heavy focus on statistics. I don't really know how your program works, but getting a strong foundation is important because there are many different techniques for analysis and hypothesis testing, but they're all variations of a few different techniques you'll learn early on.

What the fuck is she even asking, though? She's just saying stuff about how people have been persecuted in the past, and Cruz is talking about Christians in America. This is just gibberish, because they're both having different conversations. I don't like Cruz, but I don't expect him, during what appears to be a very Southern publicity thing, to just say 'Yeah I fuckin' love gays and transpeople and Christians are dumb as shit for not doing their weddings'. Expecting an untwisted response from the figurehead of a political movement is asinine. It's just a waste of effort on everyone's part.
