i pronounce it like "turkey shut the fuck up"

That's at least 3 syllables too many.

I'd really like to have an actual transcript with distinctions between pre-programmed responses and the "latent semantic analysis". Obviously the zoo one (and every other question in the article) was pre-programmed, and from what I can tell the way it 'learns' from the internet is basically just looking up synonyms to words or phrases, inserting them in place of the pre-programmed responses. This is another attempt at making a facsimile of AI: it doesn't really learn, it just puts on a good show of pretending to do so.

YouTube

Whenever I hear Brits on TV (with this particular accent; not sure which it is) try to say the syllable 'oh', it always comes out like some painfully complicated phrase, like 'oyaow'. What's the deal? Just make a circle with your mouth and make noise come out.

On a related note, it's pretty cool that the pope is ordering all European churches to house refugees. Media sensationalism aside, that's a legitimately great act of humanitarianism.
That's what churches are supposed to do. They shouldn't have to be ordered to do it by the Pope, and let's see if all of them go through with it.

I can't really speak for the church in Europe, but here they house, feed, and support the vast majority of homeless people as well as low-income families in need.
I never really saw that in my life. I've heard of some churches, but from what I know it's not as huge an effort as you're making it out to be.

I meant in my state, though when I lived in Phoenix it was very common, too. Every church I've been a part of has had a very active homeless ministry; if you're not part of the church, you're probably not going to hear about it. It's not exactly a headlining story for a church to feed homeless people.

The difference is that a lot of churches aren't really equipped to actually keep people on the premises for an indefinite amount of time; I think he's calling not only for the churches to step up support but for Catholics themselves to offer their homes in addition.

As a dumb American that doesn't have cable or a paper subscription anymore, can someone get me up to date on what is going on? Was there some sort of incident that is causing a large emigration, or has this been going on for quite a while and governments are just now starting to respond harshly?

If you were Marty and Microsoft decided to throw in their own music instead of the music you created specifically for the trailer which is a very important one, then you would be pissed as hell.

Well no, I wouldn't, because they would be writing my paychecks and are ultimately in charge of any content that is put out.

So let's summarize. Bungie asked Marty to make the series's soundtrack all at once instead of individually. Marty did that, and then got pissy when they wouldn't release it (presumably because he wanted that sweet profit-sharing). And then when Activison/Bungie swapped some trailer music, Marty responded in some disruptive way (of which I've seen no description) that was apparently bad enough to get him suspended, and then when he came back his co-workers claimed he was disruptive and unhelpful, and we also know the game's release date was pushed back because Marty refused to finish sound effect work until the game was completely finished.

I'm not a fan of Bungie's new model, but Marty had a really good thing going and he just kind of pissed it away. It really doesn't seem like anyone was out to get him.
Marty holds himself to a high expectation because he knows the music he producing is great. So he's going to be upset when he creates 10 years worth of music and then it is thrown out the window and replaced by a corporation.

It was one trailer. His work will still be present in the entire Destiny series. Nothing was thrown out the window, they probably just swapped the song with something more like pop rock to appeal to new fans.

I'm not anti-Marty at all, but I think people are seeing drama where there is very little.

I'm just talking about a cutscene doing exaggerated feats of heroism
*showing off Spartan's established capabilities

You can keep on with the "gameplay is real canon" all day, but it isn't true. At all.
What they're doing in the cutscene isn't exaggerated. I've given multiple refutations as to how and why it isn't multiple times in this thread across multiple pages.

Their speed isn't exaggerated.
Their combat capabilities and effectiveness as a team aren't exaggerated.
Their agility isn't exaggerated.
The free-fall is perfectly fine, and makes more sense than when S-IIs were jumping out of ships left and right.
The quick mission brief for a Blowthrough Op is fine.

Yes, I understand that they're showing off their established abilities. What I'm saying is that, in my opinion, the way they were demonstrated here was cartoonish and silly. It didn't look believable in the context of their established abilities, to me. The fact that I would prefer established canon to be closer to gameplay isn't really affecting how I view this cutscene, it was just an aside. I hate to use the example, but look at Destiny trailers: fireteams are sprinting around, jumping, and using their powers, and you can pretty much do exactly that in the game. Hell, maybe I'll be proven wrong in Halo 5 and we'll be treated to a badass level where you freefall around terrain, blow through an aerial and ground firefight, and just kick all sorts of ass. That's exactly what I would like to see.

I've heard it akin to going to a breast cancer fundraiser and complaining that nobody is talking about lung cancer there. They're separate issues; black-on-black crime is a social problem, whereas BLM is addressing a systemic problem that can be addressed by Congress, governors, and the courts.
Okay, sure, but the name Black Lives Matter kind of implies that well, black lives matter, and the only thing killing black people more disproportionately than racially motivated crime is black on black crime. You think they would be prioritising.

I can't think of a single social equality movement that has attempted to address every issue the group faces. Are you also going to shit on suffragettes for not also working to get equality for women in the workplace?
Firstly, you can drop the condescending tone, thanks.

Secondly, I did not say BLM had to encapsulate every issue the black community currently endures. I said considering that the movement is literally called "Black Lives Matter" you would think black on black crime would be at the top of their list seeing as how it is a substantially larger problem that kills more black males than racial hate crime does.

I'm not sure how to explain it any better. It's a pointed criticism of the legal system's neglect of judicial equality -- a succinct way of explaining their platform. The main criticism you have is of the phrase itself, as if that's what really matters here. It's not.

4728
I mean, you're well within your rights to shit on 343

I'm not. I like 343 quite a bit, and have talked about how much I enjoy their influence on the novels compared to the tripe that was released under Bungie's watch, as well as improvements in plot and characterization, in addition to the addition of really cool sources of lore like Hunt the Truth. I'm just talking about a cutscene doing exaggerated feats of heroism for the sake of establishing the characters and their abilities in a very brief amount of time for new players. I'm not going to address any more of your post because you don't seem interested in/capable of having this discussion calmly or respectfully.

Okay, you can simultaneously recognize that institutionalized racism does exist in many parts of America, which is the main platform of #BLM, and that there is a serious trend of black-on-black crime that the community and the nation needs to be concerned about. They're not mutually exclusive. Of course people only say "black lives matter" when a white person kills them; that's literally what the movement is about.
I'm curious as to why it doesn't seem to want to address the most pertinent issues facing the black community. Not to mention that a lot of its members consist of mendaciously suspicious characters.

]Except you don't call your movement "black lives matter" and ignore black on black crime but blow up incidents that sometimes weren't even racial.
I'd wager that the black community leaders taking part in BLM are probably some of the most influential in the fight against black-on-black crime, too. I agree they've latched on to several high-profile cases that don't represent the systemic racism they're talking about, but that doesn't mean it isn't prevalent.

Also the "hurr superheroes now" comments don't make sense.
Spartans literally are superheroes, and always have been. Just because they aren't Marvel or DC doesn't change anything.
Nobody even blinks when Captain America fights toe to to against some reality bending demigod bullshit with nothing bur a fucking Frisbee made of shit that doesn't even exist.

Numerous times in this site I've argued that comics break their canon powers and limits. It's called power creep, particularly concerning "peak human ability" characters like Batman and Cap. I completely understand that the new spartans are more agile and strong (see: power creep). But literally flying using little booster jets, crashing through a huge boulder, destroying forerunner soldier with a few bullets, throwing elites around like toys, and running down a snowy mountain with no trouble, it's just dumb. Why would the UNSC drop them on top of a mountain in the middle of a air and ground battle? Why were they briefed on the mission literally 10 seconds before jumping? Did Locke seriously get a comms check while flying uncontrolled towards a mountain?

The video was cool, but it's also pretty silly. It's hard to argue that their powers are canon, when we won't experience anything similar in gameplay. And of course, gameplay isn't canon, but it's really the only canon that matters since it's a video game. It's kind of shitty to tell players that your character is so fast and strong and powerful, and then give gameplay where we jog, hop short walls, and actually need more than a few bullets to kill shielded enemies. Sure Bungie underplayed their Spartans in the games, but it was a more consistent gameplay experience. Cheif never really does anything that you couldn't do in the game.

So, really, nothing that can't be solved by killing ourselves, essentially.

I'm not sure what you want me to say. You know that's not what I'm saying, or the position any Judeo-Christian religion takes (save Islam via martyrdom), so you're purposefully derailing the thread out of derision.

I won't proselytize on this site, but the tl;dr of theology on the subject of suffering is that humanity reaps what it sows through sin, the punishment of which is death, in the form of disease, aging, war, etc. God's plan is a corrective action over many generations to fix this issue while keeping in line with our ability to make choices in our lives (AKA free will, which is a whole other topic).

I don't intend to discuss this in-depth here.

Sure does. It's just hard to understand why it is what it is sometimes.
