I'll just post this again since I agree with the majority the points made
Spoiler

They never  evacuated the school because they thought he had a hoax bomb. He pulled a big digital clock out of its case and put it in a pencil box that looks like an attache case you see used for bombs and money in old movies.

How do you conclude that it is a fake bomb if he isn't even triyng to pretend that it's a bomb in the first place?

First of all, because it looks like a fake bomb/prop. Second, because he didn't make a clock, he just took case off an old clock and put it in a different box. Third, because he admitted that he purposefully made it to be less suspicious and not appear to be a "threat", so he was aware of what it looked like. Since he didn't really design anything and purposefully chose a box that looks like a metal briefcase from old action movies, it's reasonable to surmise he knew what he was doing.

If you did a stupid thing like that, probably not aware of the ramifications, and you were arrested and questioned, why the fuck would you start saying you intended it to be a bomb? You'd lie your goddamn ass off all day saying it was just a clock, a little science project.

The title and the post are at odds. What you're saying is I should make a character that doesn't look like me; rather, I should make a person that has better features than I do so I can aspire to them (for some reason).

despite the fact that Muslims in our country are far more moderate than many believe (Apparently, all Muslims are terrorists to some here).
Muslims in the US are probably more moderate than in Western Europe, but there's still a rather significant problem with fundamentalism even in America. 51pc of mosques have violent texts on-site, and Muslims make up 1pc of the population and 80pc of the terror convictions.

Sauce?
http://www.terrorismanalysts.com/pt/index.php/pot/article/view/sharia-adherence-mosque-survey/html

The United States has, as of 2010, over 2000 mosques throughout the country. While I get the whole need for sampling size being a small percentage, the study only used 100 mosques in 2011 - which is not even 10% of the total amount.

I don't have time to read through the entire website - mind picking out the sections where it shows which texts are used, etc?
A sample size of 100 is more than enough for the 2106 mosques in America.

Hardly, especially since the mosques sampled barely represent a quarter of he country - 14 or 15 states.

The states and locations were chosen randomly. The Central Limit Theorem justifies the use of sufficiently randomly selected subsets of a population to be sampled.

So, the existence of her dead body, the murderer, a confession, the murder weapon, three witnesses, and two recordings of the incident aren't solid proof?

he then proceeded to say, "We have a problem in this country; it's called Muslims."

That wasn't Carson; that was some rando at a Trump rally.

I don't think it's at all racist to feel that certain tenets of Islam are inconsistent with American constitutional values. I'm down with a Muslim being elected, as long as they're willing to put aside those conflicting beliefs. Christianity and Judaism, because of their lesser reliance on rules and dogma, are more compatible with other systems of beliefs and ethics.

But no, Carson is a filthy racist for saying something like that.

If we accept the story about “inventing” an alarm clock is made up, as I think I’ve made a pretty good case for, it’s fair to wonder what other parts of the story might be made up, not reported factually by the media, or at least, exaggerated.

I refer back again to this YouTube video interview with Ahmed. He explains that he closed up the box with a piece of cord because he didn’t want it to look suspicious. I’m curious, why would “looking suspicious” have even crossed his mind before this whole event unfolded, if he was truly showing off a hobby project, something so innocuous as an alarm clock. Why did he choose a pencil box, one that looks like a miniature briefcase no less, as an enclosure for a clock? It’s awful hard to see the clock with the case closed. On the other hand, with the case open, it’s awful dangerous to have an exposed power transformer sitting near the snooze button (unless, perhaps his invention was to stop serial-snooze-button pressers by giving them a dangerous electrical shock!)

So again, I’m pointing all this out – about the specifics of the clock – not to pick on the poor kid. I’m picking on us, our culture, and our media. I don’t even care about the clock itself at this point.

If we stop and think – was it really such a ridiculous reaction from the teacher and the police in the first place? How many school shootings and incidents of violence have we had, where we hear afterwards “this could have been prevented, if only we paid more attention to the signs!” Teachers are taught to be suspicious and vigilant. Ahmed wasn’t accused of making a bomb – he was accused of making a look-alike, a hoax. And be honest with yourself, a big red digital display with a bunch of loose wires in a brief-case looking box is awful like a Hollywood-style representation of a bomb. Everyone jumped to play the race and religion cards and try and paint the teachers and police as idiots and bigots, but in my mind, they were probably acting responsibly and erring on the side of caution to protect the rest of their students, just in case. “This wouldn’t have happened if Ahmed were white,” they say. We’re supposed to be sensitive to school violence, but apparently religious and racial sensitivity trumps that. At least we have another clue about how the sensitivity and moral outrage pecking order lies.

Because, is it possible, that maybe, just maybe, this was actually a hoax bomb? A silly prank that was taken the wrong way? That the media then ran with, and everyone else got carried away? Maybe there wasn’t even any racial or religious bias on the parts of the teachers and police.
tl;dr, he didn't even make the clock, he just swapped the cases and put it in a laughably cliche briefcase-lookalike pencil box with the express desire to avoid making it look too suspicious, meaning he recognized that it looked like a bomb from a cheesy action flick. He got a slap on the wrist and pretty much everyone just went along with the story the media put out.

It's not about racism or being a contrarian, it's about not getting strung along with media sensationalism over a non-story. Stop letting others tell you what to think about world events.

It's so good, though. Great for mixing, and I'm trying to learn cocktail recipes so it's very convenient.
You want a good cocktail? Grasshoppers, man.

What the fuck is creme de menthe and creme de cacao?

Gaayyyyyy

Black label, as always.

But, here's the real question: single malt, or blend?

I'm drinking single malt. I've never actually had blended scotch. I'm trying to get familiar with liquors one by one. My wife and I are currently on a caribbean rum kick.

I know all bottled water is basically the same, but I'll be damned if Dasani doesn't taste better than the rest.

Without a deity, value is intrinsic to the human experience. If you don't derive meaning from your own life, then nihilism seems like a perfectly valid viewpoint. But then it's not even really a worldview, is it? It's just the denial of all others.

I defer to Walter Sobchak's opinion of nihilism: "Say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos."

The book, I mean.

I'll do a full review once I'm done if there's interest, but I started today and I'm on page 193 of 330 or so. It's consistently entertaining, and despite being a POV narrative it's suspensful, witty, and incredibly detailed. Anyone that enjoys hard sci-fi will be enthralled by about 80 pages of mathematical and scientific explanation of protagonist Mark Watney's struggle to survive after being marooned on Mars.

It's a quick read, and not overly complex (non-scientific folk need not be worried). Check it out before heading to see the movie.

there is a huge advantage to this - the fact you don't have to save up for retirement in the first place if you're willing to work as long as you can and participate in The Smith and Wesson Retirement Plan when the time comes.

Or you could work as long as you can and participate in a normal fucking IRA and live a comfortable life well past the retirement age. If you want to kill yourself because you don't know how to save for retirement or don't understand how pensions or social security work, go right ahead. Fewer people to pay, in the end.

Yeah, cunt's probably somewhere between 'fuck' and 'nigger'. Don't greet people on the street, always hold doors for people, tip 18%, double check cab fees because they'll rip off foreigners, carry ID everywhere, and be prepared for stupid questions about the UK.
