Looks like they went with the most generic story they could scrape together.
It's actually heavily based on the events of Warcraft: Orcs and Humans with some narrative changes to transition to film. Durotan's character is changed, for example.
That's fine, but the whole 'starcrossed lovers from warring families' thing has been done to death in fantasy.

White Fox Chronicles. It's written like a video-game addicted 6th grader's wet dream.

All right, I wanna finish this game by December, so I'm gonna try to fuck around with sidequests a little bit less now.
I'm pretty far behind on this thread; can you sum up your thoughts briefly?

I have no idea what the cause was. If you didn't know your friend was troubled, it doesn't sound like you were much of a friend.
I moved to a different state almost a year ago. Mental illness is incredibly difficult to recognize in-person, let alone over the phone. Either way, go fuck yourself.

Or so your buddies on Facebook might tell you. Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox is indeed set to take over National Geographic (including TV and magazine) later in November, but a story circulating around is that a few days ago he fired their "award winning staff" in what's presented as a sweeping layoff of reporters, photographers, editors, and journalists. The reality is that, prior to the Fox takeover, the National Geographic Society decided to make these personnel cuts themselves, firing 9% of their staff of 2000, the vast majority of which were in administrative roles like legal and HR. Only four employees from the magazine were fired; all were offered severance or buyout packages. The National Geographic Society will remain as a non-profit publishing organization but will keep 27% of the profits from its partnership with Fox. Bear in mind that Fox has owned National Geographic's TV channel for 18 years now. In addition, the Society's endowment fund will be bolstered by over $1 billion from the deal. The layoffs were a response to NatGeo's consistent decrease in subscriptions and sales -- a necessary action that any leadership board would have taken, and in this instance it allows the Society to control who was fired rather than their new ownership which has less experience with the staff. So while it's fun to shit on Rupert Murdoch because he's a big bad rich guy, just realize that in this case, he had nothing to do with the layoffs, and buying the NatGeo Society is likely going to give them the means to rejuvenate the magazine and keep its award-winning staff in their jobs. https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/national-geographic-chief-says-layoffs-done-to-avert-financial-derailment/2015/11/04/83fae59a-8314-11e5-9afb-0c971f713d0c_story.html

ME1's gameplay is awful.
Clunky. Slow. Weapons suck ass. Juddery as fuck.
The UI is awful too.
It seems bad now, but back in the day that shit was great. I always loved scrounging up all the upgrade parts to make your weapons badass. Getting that master Spectre sniper rifle with frictionless material was a huge payoff at the end. None of the subsequent games had that payoff, despite streamlining (or eliminating) the upgrade and skill tree process.

Well Loaf, for breakfast I ate some poor chicken's unfertilized ovum and washed it down with watery, ground-up beans harvested by slave workers from South America.

A really good friend of mine committed suicide last night. He was outgoing, smart, hilarious, and in a relationship. I have no idea what the cause was.
If you're ever about to do something you know is wrong, something harmful to yourself because you don't feel any hope, please talk to someone. All of your friends and family will be wishing they'd had the chance to talk to you again.
People care about you.

i hope you know that just because you're pursuing a CompSci major doesn't automatically guarantee you anything once you're out of college, and it's a shame that so many people have this mentality. just study what you're passionate about and let the rest fall into place.
That's the problem. We don't live in a society where doing what you're passionate about pays the bills.
Passion second, bills first.
Try as you might, you can't escape it. The only slightly better chance somebody has, is doing the whole pay the bills routine, while still juggling what they're passionate about.
If they're lucky, in the long run, their passion stands a chance of being so honed and well defined that it can instead pay the bills while staying as a passion at the same time.
Most peoples' passions involve self-fulfillment rather than contributing to society in some economically meaningful way. Working skilled labor gives you the income necessary to express your passions in your free time.

Windows 8 and 8.1 were really good, and 10 is a nice improvement on it, especially if you prefer the Windows 7 layout. 10 is a good mix of 7 and 8.

>behind a paywall
lol no thanks
Well it'll be on CBS like a regular show, but also available through their online streaming service.
It seems to me the premiere is airing on regular cable, but then every subsequent episode is exclusive to their service.
Oh fuck, you're right. That's ridiculous.

Programming is such a weird field to me. My father in law is a contracted programmer for Intel and he makes bank because he's good at it, but it's also a highly perishable skill that is rapidly being devalued by overseas labor.
So it's a fantastic skill to have, but it's also becoming very crowded.

If you ask me, the IVs are better because they earned the armor and the augmentations while the IIs were just given them and told they were special.
So I guess first of all being individually selected from the entire population as genetically superior, then surviving intense training and conditioning prior to any augmentation, followed by an often lethal augmentation and then being guinea pigs for experimental power armor which also had a habit of maiming, crippling, or killing its early users, then carrying out impossible suicide missions en masse, is not considered 'earning it'? I think this whole discussion is pointless, but what you're saying is just nonsense.

For my degree I did a group capstone project to improve efficiency in a pharmacy compounding center; we ended up increasing their throughput by about 300% and getting job offers from the boss at our corporate presentation.
For my honors thesis I researched various efficiencies of different swim strokes as pertaining to endurance, speed, and survival.

I think some people on this forum have difficulty distinguishing their own enjoyment of a game from its actual quality.
it brings to question whether there is such a thing as "actual quality"
Maybe I should've said "difficulty distinguishing their own enjoyment from others' ". I think there's an argument to be made that some games are just better than others in some objective ways, but that's not really what I meant. A lot of people really enjoy Fallout 1 & 2, so it must've done something right for them.

http://www.startrek.com/article/new-star-trek-series-premieres-january-2017CBS Television Studios announced today it will launch a totally new Star Trek television series in January 2017. The new series will blast off with a special preview broadcast on the CBS Television Network. The premiere episode and all subsequent first-run episodes will then be available exclusively in the United States on CBS All Access, the Network’s digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service.
The next chapter of the Star Trek franchise will also be distributed concurrently for television and multiple platforms around the world by CBS Studios International.
The new program will be the first original series developed specifically for U.S. audiences for CBS All Access, a cross-platform streaming service that brings viewers thousands of episodes from CBS’s current and past seasons on demand, plus the ability to stream their local CBS Television station live for $5.99 per month. CBS All Access already offers every episode of all previous Star Trek television series.
The brand-new Star Trek will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966.
Alex Kurtzman will serve as executive producer for the new Star Trek TV series. Kurtzman co-wrote and produced the blockbuster films Star Trek (2009) with Roberto Orci, and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) with Orci and Damon Lindelof. Both films were produced and directed by J.J. Abrams.
The new series will be produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout. Kurtzman and Heather Kadin will serve as executive producers. Kurtzman is also an executive producer for the hit CBS television series Scorpion and Limitless, along with Kadin and Orci, and for Hawaii Five-0 with Orci. Kurtzman helped write the Star Trek reboots, which while being great films, were terrible Star Trek stories. Not a very auspicious announcement, in my opinion. If it's set in the reboot universe, I'll probably be skipping it entirely.

These kinds of maps use to be fairly common.
Spoiler Depending on the hemisphere you live in you might also get a map like this
None of those are commonly used projections, though. For educational or illustrative purposes it makes sense to put your home in the center, but America isn't in the center of any real world map or chart. Pretty much any time a map is used it's broken up into sectionals, anyway.

I'm trying to imagine what modern colonialism involving the major European powers would look like...and honestly, it's looking good for modern Africa. More doctors and hospitals, actual jobs, better infrastructure, human rights and civil liberties...
It would require a complete redraw of the African map
What do you think the map of Africa would look like if it wasn't colonized?

Apparently this is an educated guess.
Why is it upside down?
Why do maps made in NA, Europe, and Asia place their respective continents in the center?
I can't think of any map I've seen that doesn't place the Greenwich Meridian in the center.

i skimmed a lot but it seems like he didnt talk about multiplayer at all.
weird, to ignore the flagship game mode in a 40 minute review.
He talked about it for almost half of the review, especially the REQ system.
i didnt see or hear anything relating to the maps, weapon sandbox, or gametypes. i did hear him bitch about the REQ system for about 15 minutes. which could have been covered in like, 5 minutes.
Things he complained about just off the top of my head: -poor map rotation and design -lack of classic maps -lack of BTB -lack of splitscreen -tedious progression system
He also said he enjoyed Warzone and had some other praises, too. I think he likes Breakout also.
still doesnt sound like anything remotely close to an in-depth review of the multiplayer.
Joe's reviews aren't meant to be thorough, they're just an average, casual gamer's perspective of a game with some funny antics throughout. I'm not trying to jerk the guy off but at least don't completely misrepresent the content of the review; he did cover multiplayer quite a bit while admitting his perspective isn't great because he sucks at it.
