but lets not pretend like its absolutely worthless.
I didn't.
this is really just useless legislation. you did.
Useless at addressing mass shootings. It is. It's not worthless otherwise, but the context of its uselessness was pretty explicit.

but lets not pretend like its absolutely worthless.
I didn't. I said they're ineffective in addressing the issues that inspired their implementation. None of the policies would have stopped any mass shooting. If he wants to increase gun control via funding and background checks that's fine, but passing it off as a response to mass shootings is disingenuous.

is it fundamentally wrong to perform background checks on those who would deign to obtain a firearm?
Felons already can't buy guns and criminals don't typically but their guns through legal routes.

and then just proceed to do absolutely nothing about the flawed status quo
So recognizing the inefficacy of reactionary policy means that I, personally, have to devise some sort of legislation to solve America's gun crime problem?

Posted my views in the other thread. Off-topic but related question: how many of 2015's high-profile shootings would have been prevented by a background check? Because I have a suspicion the answer is "none", so this is really just useless legislation.

So all it ended up being was a broadening of the scope of sellers considered to be gun dealers to allow more background checks and ambiguously restrict the ease with which someone can purchase "machine guns" and "sawed-off shotguns" (because those are scary). 2nd amendment activists can all go home; it's just more milquetoast executive action delivered by a teary-eyed President Obama on the heels of some public outcry. http://www.wsj.com/articles/obama-expands-gun-controls-in-executive-moves-1452012973?mod=e2fb

Though I remain firm in my belief that he should be stripped of rank and tossed in Leavenworth for a few years.
I suppose that's fair. You ought to listen to it, though (or at least episode 3); they actually contact the Taliban to get their side of the story. It's pretty interesting.

taking quotes does not tell me what's wrong with his plan liked I asked.
I read his plan and found the shitty parts and told you about them Now you know what is wrong with his plan. You're welcome, friend

Please tell me what's wrong with his plan,
After a brief skim, the following is either stupid or incorrect: There must be a wall across the southern border. Mexico must pay for the wall Illegal aliens apprehended crossing the border must be detained until they are sent home, no more catch-and-release. Enhanced penalties for overstaying a visa. End birthright citizenship. The influx of foreign workers holds down salaries, keeps unemployment high, and makes it difficult for poor and working class Americans – including immigrants themselves and their children – to earn a middle class wage. Requirement to hire American workers first. Applicants for entry to the United States should be required to certify that they can pay for their own housing, healthcare and other needs before coming to the U.S. Increase standards for the admission of refugees and asylum-seekers The J-1 visa jobs program for foreign youth will be terminated Before any new green cards are issued to foreign workers abroad, there will be a pause where employers will have to hire from the domestic pool of unemployed immigrant and native workers. author=Cadenza link=topic=54594.msg1094694#msg1094694 date=1451973813] -Lies a lot Ignoring the first two, when has he ever lied?
Try: a complete reversal in his political allegiance and platform within the past 5 years, throwing political allies under the bus now that he's a "Republican" (such as the Clintons).

Still, with people like Cruz and Trump (I'm not counting him) leading, I am not confident in anything of a plan.
Yeah, you shouldn't be. None of the candidates care about replacing the plan as much as President Obama cared about implementing it. It's kind of a shame the ACC turned out the way it did, because after all that effort we could've seen some real healthcare reform that addressed the root of the problems.

but it honestly seems the Republicans are saying "repeal Obamacare and overhaul", but they've not once mentioned WHAT THEY PLAN TO DO DIFFERENT >:C.
Well yeah but President Obama didn't do much different when he was running, either. The general outline didn't at all compare to the massive piece of legislation the ACC turned out to be.

it KINDA GETS SCARY for me when they're just ready to fuck over millions of people already on something.
Stay on your parents' healthcare until you're 25 if you need to. The ACC fucked over quite a few people already, and continues to do so.
How is it fucking them over?
I'm not refuting what you're saying, I'm honestly curious. I won't lie, how the ACC clashes with other healthcare companies is something I am insanely ignorant about.
It fucks the middle class, mostly. Personally, I (and hundreds of coworkers) lost 40% of my hours at my college job because my employer couldn't afford to pay healthcare and would have been required to do so over a certain number of hours. It does nothing to address the actual issues pervading the US healthcare system (notably, price hiking by insurance and obscene fees). It's not even socialized, it's just making poor people buy shit they don't often need or want, or if they really can't afford it making someone else pay for it. Yeah it's great that some people that needed insurance now have it, but it's just an awful piece of legislation that did far more long-term damage than can be outweighed by short-term progress of signing more people up for health insurance.

On a car trip home I recently listened to Serial seasons 1 and 2. Season 1 was interesting but ultimately disappointing because after 12 mostly-hour-long episodes of investigative journalism we ended up with no clearer picture of the case and no change in the subject's legal status. That said, I recommend listening to it (it's a free podcast) if you have have 10 hours to kill. Season 2 is about Bowe Bergdahl, the soldier who walked off his post and was captured by the Taliban. What's interesting about this season is that we already know the important legal facts of the case; Bergdahl admits he left his post and was captured. His guilt is undeniable, though the court martial has yet to be convened. Many high-ranking Army officers are of the opinion that 5 years of captivity which included psychological and physical torture more than account for his violation of the UCMJ. On the other hand, many are angry that his capture caused a 45-day surge-like manhunt for him that exhausted troops, expended vital resources, and endangered the lives of many soldiers; some even claim soldiers were killed during these searches in particular. For those who have listened up to the point (it's released weekly and is in a mid-season break right now), what're your thoughts? I initially started out thinking he was a dumb fuck that deserved everything that was coming, but after listening to stories about his captivity, torture, and escape attempts, I'm inclined to believe he deserves little more than a dishonorable discharge. Here's a link to the podcast: https://serialpodcast.org/

Because his policies are like a sampling of the worst aspects of both parties. He's also a two-faced hack that supported the democrats publicly for a decade before changing parties when they wouldn't elect him.
Don't elect the liberals' sloppy seconds.
I feel like the word "liberal" is a buzzword around these parts these days.
It triggers me but I took my PTSD meds today so it's okay.

Microsoft has really dropped the ball with the Xbone. It's some deadly combination of not knowing where to go after the Xbox 360, and some misguided attempt to make it a cable box, or otherwise the 'one' device you'll ever need.
Goddamn, Don Mattrick fucked them up hard.
Would've been badass if they had made it a receiver to connect all your shit to. It's sort of a half-assed attempt at it, but falls far short.

Check the capacitors before dropping hundreds on a new TV. They're fairly easy to replace if you feel comfortable working with voltage that could hurt a bit.
Or just Google "(your tv model) sound but no picture"
Don't fuck with the capacitors
They can easily kill you.
Whenever you work with something circuitry you should always discharge nearby capacitors. The caps in a TV are not typically big enough to be lethal (smaller than your thumb = okay). I didn't recommend 'fucking' with a capacitor, I recommended checking them and replacing if necessary. Responsible handiwork is rewarding and safe if you learn how to do it. The alternative is that you can take it to a repair shop and get charged $200+ to do 20 minutes of work or buy a new TV. Assuming that's the problem, which is very well might not be.

What the hell kind of butter are they using? You can leave butter out because it's pasteurized and it should still retain its shape.

It's the end of the holiday Steam sale and LoF is on sale for $10. I've been craving some more Dark Souls-esque gameplay and I've heard it's a decent copy of it, albeit easier. http://store.steampowered.com/app/265300/Yes? No? Go fuck myself?
