Scared of everything, then?

It auto saves basically after every action you do. And most importantly when you quit the game through the menus it autosaves then and there as well.

I actually have to hand it to From in that regard. If your game unexpectedly crashes for whatever reason, you'll lose very little progress unless you where fighting a boss. Like we're talking seconds. Open a door, game crashes.

Load up the game, you're sitting front of the door a few seconds before you open it. They do stellar work in that department, at least. I don't know of any other games out there that can save so often without significantly impeding your progress in-game with a wait time.

Another benefit of constant autosaving is that it's pretty much impossible to save-scum.

Glad you're at least getting some enjoyment more.

I hope you know how to get your estus flask. You got it, right?
Yeah, of course. I mentioned not having to use it when I fought Luci ;)

I don't think I got it last time, because I don't at all remember the dude who gives it to you. He has a good voice actor.
Yeah, voice acting in Souls series is good. They match the tone insanely well.

If only they balanced the audio so you could actually hear what most people say. BB in particularly drowns out its dialog in other sound effects.

Serious / Batshit insane liquor laws
« on: January 17, 2016, 03:57:30 PM »
So I'm moving to Norfolk, VA later this year, and I wanted to see how they handle liquor sale -- and apparently, it's ridiculous.

All liquor sale is monopolized by the state; there are zero independent liquor stores outside of military PX package stores.

There's a 20% excise tax on liquor in addition to 5% sales tax. In 2014 they generated $140 million in profit from this. Holy shit.

Anyways, are your state's laws awful? I came from AZ where you can buy booze in any grocery store, any time, so this is a huge change.

Serious / Re: Smart gun technology
« on: January 17, 2016, 03:48:18 PM »
Good fucking luck if you ever need to protect your kid, then. A locked firearm is a useless firearm, and in case of emergency an unloaded firearm is nothing more than an inefficient bludgeoning tool.

Of all the burglaries in America, 7% are violent; of those, 12% of perpetrators were armed with a gun. I'm all for the right to bring lead to bear on those that would intend to do me or my family harm, but I'm also against escalating a violent situation and the insanely high number of accidental discharges leading to injury. Absolutely kids should know how to use a firearm (and more importantly, when not to), but good intentions never stopped a toddler from accidentally shooting himself. If that means people need to maintain positive control of their home defense weapons, so be it -- it's locked when you're away, or in sight while at home.

Unless you're living in Juarez or some shit there's really no reason to have an unsecured and loaded firearm in your house with a kid around. A safe should be a legal prerequisite to owning a firearm while living with a minor.

Living on a military base I'm required to secure any firearm behind a minimum of three locks -- e.g., a deadbolt, safe, trigger lock, regardless of whether I have kids.

Israel is and always has been the aggressor.

This is demonstrably untrue in practically every conflict. You can certainly argue the ethics of their strategy but it's just patently false to say they've always been the aggressor.

Suicide isn't illegal, though.
Walk into a hospital and ask if you can be put down.

Just because euthanasia isn't an offered service doesn't mean suicide is illegal.

The Flood / Re: How do you deal with not going to martial arts daily?
« on: January 15, 2016, 04:45:53 PM »
I used to do jiu jitsu for a while until it turned into a bunch of overweight weebs trying to be kung fu masters.
What?

I practiced jiu jitsu

For a while

And then the class I went to became populated exclusively by anime-club types

Unathletic, nerdy, introverted

So then I stopped going.

i was defending it because it appeared to me that the points you were making against it didnt hold up when it came to actual facts.

Verb said he thinks sports are silly, I responded by saying the sports comparison doesn't even work because sports are extra-curricular, and you responded by telling me that your school offers weightlifting (not a football class -- weightlifting). Am I missing something? I'm really confused as to what point you're trying to make -- are comparisons to regular sports legitimate? Is offering eSports just as "silly" as regular sports?

3500
video games are art though?
That doesn't justify making it a class anymore than listening to music for an hour would.
Quote
whatever this convo isnt going anywhere im done here. you're obviously set in stone on this. id prefer if it were an extracurricular too, for what its worth.
Then what's the point of defending it as a class?

If these guys want to play video games instead of take some other academic class that's fine, but it's dishonest to call it a worthwhile replacement for the arts, sciences, or P.E., especially in a public school.

3501
they spend the class period specifically conditioning themselves to be better football players. i think it counts.

I think anyone would be able to recognize the benefits of exercise over video games if an academic period has to be substituted for.
why does it necessarily have to replace a PE class? there are plenty of other electives it could replace for a student, like an art class or band, etc.

The arts are demonstrably beneficial for academic development; video games aren't.

Can you imagine this happening in the US?

I totally get it as a club, but as an actual class? It's insane. There isn't even a football class, so the comparison to sports is meaningless.
actually schools do have weight training classes specifically for football players, or at least the schools in my county do. theres a distinct difference between the football classes and standard weight training classes too.

Weight training is either a substitute for, or the next level of, regular required P.E. classes.

Serious / Re: Bernie Sanders' plans to pay for his proposals

It has to be demonstrated that the minimum payment presents an insurmountable hardship on the loanee. Bankruptcy isn't just a free reset button.
fair enough

that does make the 40% seem a hell of a lot bigger--"insurmountable hardship"

Some examples I saw when double checking it were things like a single mother working a minimum wage job, or people who didn't benefit at all from their education or were a victim of fraudulent universities.

On the other hand, student debt discharge was denied for a man that claimed his alcoholism presented an insurmountable hardship preventing him from paying the debt; the judge (or whoever does it) didn't consider alcoholism "insurmountable", which is interesting.

Oh, yeah. Well he's wrong in that instance. Approximately 40% of people that include student loans in their bankruptcy get a partial or complete discharge.
only 40%?

so 60% were comfortable with paying it off themselves or what

that seems hard to believe

meta's alternative, if you can't pay off your debt, is to give students the right to file bankruptcy over their student loans, because you are currently unable to do that for some ungodly reason

Yes, you can.

Plan:
Paid Family and Medical Leave: Sen. Sanders has proposed at least 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave to all workers.

Payment:
Paid for by a payroll tax that would total $1.61 a week for the typical American worker. According to Sen. Gillibrand’s office, this would be “a self-sufficient program that would not add to the federal budget.”

Cost:
Revenue: $319 billion/10y

Quote
For example, the average woman worker earning the median weekly wage would only need to contribute $1.38 per week (for a total of $72.04 per year) into the program, and even the highest wage earners would have a maximum contribution of $4.36 per week, or $227.40 per year. This means that for less than ONE tall brewed Starbucks coffee ($1.85) or about the cost of ONE venti latte per week (over $4) we could create a program that will be so beneficial for our families. The average full time working woman earning the median weekly wage would receive a total of $5,514.48 if she took the full 12 weeks of paid leave.

"And fuck you if you decide to not have kids and thus never use this leave. Pay for it anyway."

That was a fantastic trailer. I'm hoping none of the subsequent ones show anything outside of the bunker.

Potential spoilers for the premise from the lead actress:

Spoiler
“He tells me that basically the world is over outside because there’s been a nuclear fall-out. It does have similarity to Faults, in some ways, because you don’t know who’s telling the truth or who to believe. There’s a lot of, who’s manipulating who, and all of that. Tonally, it’s very different, but it has some of those same themes.”
