The only two things I agree with is their opposition to the death penalty and understanding divorcees.

I'm not sure if you share their position. Do you consider divorce a severe moral failure and re-marriage tantamount to adultery against your former spouse?

I have been on this quest for 6 months

This kind of sums up Destiny's endgame problem.
It really doesn't. If you get stuck in Destiny then it isn't the games fault. The problem with endgame is that there is that in the 7-8 months since TTK there is no replay value.

It's not the design of the game to require players to work for months just to get gear, limiting drops and quests on a weekly basis?

Excerpts
Quote
Recognition of the Challenges Facing Married Couples and Families Today
Marriage entails “mixture of enjoyment and struggles, tensions and repose, pain and relief, satisfactions and longings, annoyances and pleasures.”

“No family drops down from heaven perfectly formed; families need constantly to grow and mature in the ability to love …All of us are called to keep striving towards something greater than ourselves and our families.”

“Longer life spans now mean that close and exclusive relationships must last for four, five or even six decades; consequently, the initial decision has to be frequently renewed.”

The stress on families is “aggravated by fears about steady employment, finances and the future of children.”

Call for Understanding and Leniency for Catholics Who Divorce and Enter New Relationships
“For divorced people who are living a new union it is important to let them know they are part of the Church, they are not excommunicated.”

Jesus proposed a demanding ideal but “never failed to show compassion and closeness to the frailty of individuals like the Samaritan woman or the woman caught in adultery.”

“While clearly stating the Church’s teaching, pastors are to avoid judgments that do not take into account the complexity of various situations.”

“A pastor cannot feel that it is enough to simply apply moral laws to those living in ‘irregular’ situations, as if they were stones to throw at people’s lives.”

Priests should take account of “mitigating factors and situations” and make allowances in “particular cases.”

Reaffirmation of the Church’s Opposition to Same-Sex Marriage and Cohabitation
“De facto or same-sex unions…may not simply be equated with marriage.”

“There are absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God’s plan for marriage and family.”

Reassertion of the Church’s Opposition to Abortion and the Death Penalty
“No alleged right to one’s own body can justify a decision to terminate that life.”

“Similarly, the Church not only feels the urgency to assert the right to a natural death, without aggressive treatment and euthanasia, but likewise firmly rejects the death penalty.”

Basically nothing has changed. I think this is largely a response to the pop-culture caricature of the Pope that has manifested since his taking office, painting him as some sort of liberal revolutionary when in reality he's simply reaffirmed the Church's positions time and time again.

Luke had to go on training. She just intuitively knew how to do shit.

Within like 5 minutes of being given a lightsaber he was blocking blaster bolts blindfolded. And within the same day of learning about the force he guided a torpedo down a tiny exhaust port and destroyed the Death Star.

Jedi are just good at shit.

Well, there's different kinds of pocky.

Wheat flour, sugar, chocolate liquor, hydrogenated vegetable oil (sal fat, palm oil, shea butter, sunflower oil, rapeseed oil), whole milk powder, shortening (palm oil), condensed milk, cocoa butter, salt, butter, yeast, coffee powder, emulsifier (soy lecithin, polyglycerol, polyricinoleate), artificial flavor, leavening (sodium bicarbonate, aluminum potassium sulfate, calcium sulfate), trisodium phosphate. Contains eggs, milk, wheat and soybean.

Totally hypothetical question: if genetecists were able to develop a type of cow that functioned just like beef cattle but were born without possibility of any higher brain function (effectively braindead), would you still consider eating its meat to be wrong?

Soy shouldn't be a problem when consumed in moderation. I'd be cautious about drinking too much soy milk though.

Isn't moderation kind of difficult when it's your main source of protein?

Also, the lessons plans are out of order, so use the syllabus to sort it out or just pick one and start reading. It helps to have a bible out or in an internet tab so you can read around some of the quotes.

Is it common for vegans to supplement meals with protein powder? It seems to me that the lifestyle would be much easier with a few scoops of protein each day, then you just need carbs and fat which are easy. Even easier if you're pescatarian and have access to some of the healthiest foods available.
That's what my sister does, but I don't bother. I have a lot of imitation meat, which uses soy, which is protein rich. Good enough for me.

Are you at all concerned about estrogen levels in soy? Also, what kind of imitation meat do you eat -- is that like a veggie burger?

Neither. Probably none of the new Avengers either. Definitely not Thor, Spiderman, Black Panther, or Ant Man. I can pretty much guarantee they won't have the balls to let any of the heroes kill each other, and any deaths will be collateral or caused by Crossbones.

I'm still hoping Black Widow dies and it kicks off World War Hulk.

How to be married to a schizophrenic:

1. Wait till it's a bright sunny day
2. Randomly order a pizza to the house
3. Call in the middle of the day and scream "IT'S THE RAINNNNNNNN" over and over
4. Scold husband for missing a dose and ensure him it'll all be fixed by just going outside

Serious / So you want to learn more about Hebrew Theology
« on: April 07, 2016, 05:44:16 PM »
This is relevant to Jews, Christians, and Atheists interested in theology, cultural history, and particularly Ancient Near East studies.

In college I took a course on the Hebrew Bible, where we went through the Tanakh (Old Testament for Christians) in a couple months and analyzed its stories, characters, and themes. I've attached a Dropbox link that will show each lesson plan, the syllabus, and some various stuff like my homework and final exam. The homework each week was an abstract summary of our reading assignments from the Tanakh and our textbook, so you can read those for some quick info, bearing in mind that it was the work of a student.

Dropbox

Our textbook: The Hebrew Bible: A Comparative Approach

The course and textbook were designed to be objective, rather than teaching from a religious perspective (though there may be highlighted examples of how some of it is reflected in later religious works; I honestly can't remember).

The PDF lesson plans may seem a bit confusing because they're not just a script of each class. They start with a movie clip and a few questions to help the class relate to the stories being presented (and our professor really liked films). But generally they provide a lot of different sources of information for each section.

Any finally, my favorite Biblical scholar has openly published a vast amount of notes on the Bible, which can be read here. Bear in mind that these are from a Christian perspective, but in general they're very reliable and tend to stay objective from a cultural standpoint as well.

Halo 3 was a great ending to the series; Reach and ODST were good additions because they explored parallel parts of the series. Yeah, Bungie teased a planet at the end of Halo 3, but that doesn't necessitate a sequel. I give 343 a lot of credit for the MCC, but 4 & 5 were abysmal, and a lot of the world-building they've done is just trash.

OH SHIT

Just remembered the Bothans are from the second Death Star, not this one

Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors stole the original DS's schematics

Protagonist 1: Jyn Erso
(sounds like an obvious nod towards Jan's name)

Protagonist 2: as of yet unnamed, played by Diego Luna

Could also be Biggs Darklighter, but I doubt they'd put him back into the continuity as some sort of spy.

Serious / Re: Taking a semester off
« on: April 07, 2016, 01:57:29 PM »
Depends on where you're at in the curriculum. You're through calc 3 (or will be soon), so that's good. I would never recommend a break between calc 2 and 3. If you're anticipating some hard classes coming up, I'd either recommend a part-time schedule to focus on one or two difficult ones (for me, that'd be statics/dynamics or physics 3). If you don't anticipate needing to retain a lot of what you learn this semester, a break can be a good way to re-cage and ensure success. Then again, you will have a few months of summer break to do the same without losing an entire semester.

I really dig the music. Not so much the 'A Star Wars Story' subtitle.

It looks really good so far, though. Seems like more practical effects, real sets, and good usage of CGI. Getting a Jason Bourne-in-space feel from it.

Didn't see any Bothans though. It would've been kind of neat to see one as a main character.

NASA is very well known for its perscicion.

That combo at 2:35 tho

I was kind of disappointed that trick weapons weren't coming back from Bloodborne, but the weapon arts seem to have taken their place nicely. Sounds like there are a lot more upgrade materials available so you won't be limited to a couple weapons throughout the game, which is great.

Their rating: 9.5/10

Cons: framerate dips even on high-end PCs

Opening cutscene

I'm kind of hoping James McCloud makes an actual appearance. It'd be really neat to see the different characters have unique personalities in the game, beyond Slippy generally being a little bitch.

It aged terribly.
I hear people say this all the time, but I really don't get it. It kind of looks like shit, but that's not really a big deal.

I agree about the graphics; when they came out they were revolutionary, and I can still appreciate that. Combat was also a step up from Morrowind, but it's still feels weird compared to modern games. It feels like you're slashing at nothing. Though it was at the forefront of fast travel and helped set the stage for modern sandbox games, so that will feel familiar.

Why not something a little newer?

I've been replaying Dark Souls lately, so I'd recommend that just because it's on my mind and it's a solid game that has aged well. Oblivion's pretty great, though. It aged terribly.
