Except not even remotely, because Christmas isn't even a Christian holiday. The Bible makes no mention of the exact birthdate of Christ (it's almost certainly not December 25th), and it's widely considered to be a pagan (see: sacrilegious) holiday that is no more about religious sacrament today than is having a birthday party for your child.
It's even condemned in the Bible, which, frankly, is all the more reason for atheists to celebrate it.
Jeremiah 10:2 - 4
Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. It's not condemned; the tree isn't an idol to a Christian -- it's not worshiped or prayed to, as is done in Jeremiah 10 -- and the act of decorating and gift-giving is wholly removed from religious ceremony. It's not a pagan holiday; it has its origins in pagan Saturnalia, but was adopted by the Catholics. Its religious significance is symbolic, meaning it's celebrating Jesus' birth, not the specific day. It was practiced by most people in the Roman Empire then, just as it is now.

tfw the priest in your area wasn't involved in a pedophilia cover up throughout the 70's, 80's and 90's so you have to find a new one
A teacher, an accountant, a priest, and 3 kids are on a plane with only three parachutes onboard. The engine explodes, and the plane goes into a dive. The teacher yells, "save the kids!"; the accountant yells, "fuck the kids!"; the priest looks at the accountant and whispers, "is there enough time?"

Played some ED for the first time in like 6 months. Bought an AspE, and I'm currently building rep in Sothis/Ceos to work on that. Gonna build up some cash then try faction stuff again.

Well I felt happy about getting into Platinum until I realized that rank is smack dab in the middle, meaning I'm perfectly average at the game.

Ah yes, truly "erection of enmity" material, right here. basically
i mean, when you take a video in which there's nothing to criticize, and then criticize it, that's basically what that is
Okay, well I guess we're not going to have a meaningful conversation today. Spoiler Edit: I'm watching the Fallout review, and it's fine, but around 3:00 he has a screaming rant about game journalists, and around 14:00 he talks about how he loves the traits system in Fallout 1/2 (which actually does exist in 3 in the form of perks, but w/e) -- especially the 'jinx' trait, citing specific examples of guns randomly exploding or your characters' dog randomly breaking a leg after biting someone -- right after criticizing the game's unrealistic depiction of violence and guns (exploding bodies, dismemberment, etc.) for about three minutes. 17:00, he claims that lockpicking/hacking don't progress naturally (i.e., practice yields higher skill, & more difficult locks yield better loot) -- that's exactly how it works. 20:00, the game is too easy and no areas are significantly more difficult than others -- this is also flat-out wrong; areas and enemies scale based on level, and some dungeons and locations are significantly more difficult than others, and loot improves. 26:00, he's completely right about the navigation feature, and that Morrowind was better for its lack of such.

I've linked four of his videos here before--two of which you HAVE seen and commented on:
Decent vid so far. It's always been weird how these people get offended by statistics like "1 in 5", and so forth.
I was kind of hoping this 17 minute video would be more than, "SoA's rebuttal of 1 in 5 is wrong because he used the wrong study and he's a silly manchild". Because that's literally all it is. He seemed to lose his thesis throughout the video, eventually contradicting himself by talking about how far storyless action games have come and how fans really do desire less sexual exploitation and power fantasy over meatheads and bimbos. And really, the generic alt-right/anti-feminist arguments he presents here really are the lowest hanging fruits he could go for. It feels like neither side really has an interest in understanding what the other is saying. Ah yes, truly "erection of enmity" material, right here. and what's the matter with that hbomber says the repetitive aspects are actually good because space is bland and meaningless -- I disagree, and I think he's giving way too much credit to the intentions of the developers. They clearly have a great procedural generation system, but they failed to do much with it. Nothing's wrong; I just disagree, and don't really see a point in insulting people because they had a different experience than he did. As for not seeing his Fallout 3 video, I don't usually watch things like that (or AngryJoe, for that matter) because I don't really care about strangers'/YouTube personalites' opinion of a game, and they're rarely impressive (to me).

Except hbomber's review is an obnoxious yeah yeah, i know you have some kind erection of enmity for hbomber, but i'm not terribly interested in your opinion of his video, or your opinion of his opinion
What are you talking about? I have no idea who this guy is and as far as I know I've never seen his videos or commented about them. Your post said he's different, described as, "measured, reasonable, and delivered in a rational, calm, and fair-minded way", except the video you posted is the total opposite of that. but unless you're a clairvoyant, i'm not sure what gives you the leverage to say that
"you're not actually having fun--you're actually bored"
huh
I never said he didn't have fun. "mistakes boredom for ennui" -- he calls it empty, says the experience begins to feel meaningless, mundane, slow-paced, simple, and similar. The vast majority of criticism has been that said features are shallow and ultimately boring; hbomber basically calls them stupid and describes his experience as superior because he was able to "get" it and they weren't. I'm not defending AngryJoe or criticizing the game, which I think is fun (if vastly underdeveloped and legitimately lacking promised content). hbomber says the repetitive aspects are actually good because space is bland and meaningless -- I disagree, and I think he's giving way too much credit to the intentions of the developers. They clearly have a great procedural generation system, but they failed to do much with it.

because their critiques are measured, reasonable, and delivered in a rational, calm, and fair-minded way. They don't just whine and cry about such and such lies, as if a couple lies during development completely invalidates the rest of the game.
Except hbomber's review is an obnoxious and heavyhanded "parody" that straight-up defends bland, shallow, and repetitive exploration as 'good' because it supposedly reflects the reality of space -- an inane and philistine viewpoint that mistakes boredom for ennui. AngryJoe's schtick is worn out, but he does spend nearly half the video talking about all the things the game did right, and defends it as a legitimately revolutionary concept that he would like to be seen used by developers with more experience, e.g. in Mass Effect.

Can anyone explain how to rank up in the factions? I understand the basic system of completing bounties, but it seems extremely slow. Any recommended systems to work in, missions to take, etc?
Also, is Robigo smuggling still viable? (Post-update from a while ago, where it's a couple large bounties instead of a bunch of little ones)

The claim that dogs are omnivores is unproven, and Verb should be well aware that a single example is hardly compelling, especially when Bramble is the 5th oldest dog, and his life is undocumented except for a single article. Yes, it is possible for some dogs to live on a vegan diet; no, it is not the recommended diet, and must be strictly regulated and monitored, because dogs are not efficient at digesting plant-based protein and cannot digest cellulose without supplements. And of course, a vegan diet is completely impossible for a cat; they may live for a while, but it's a slow death by malnutrition.
The point is, if you're a die-hard vegan that cannot condone supporting eating meat in any way, you have no business adopting a dog or a cat. Get a vegan pet like a rabbit, rodents, lizards, or turtles.

Thoughts? I didn't give my son the "recommended" early vaccinations. There were just too many at once. I decided to spread them out.
That honestly seems like the best method. How far apart?
The CDC reccommends about 50 shots for 14 diseases and want all that done by age 6. The majority of them coming before age 3. Basically when they said "oh hes gonna need to get 5 shots this doctors visit", I always say, just give him two or 3, and we'll get the next ones the next time he comes in.
So basically I've just been spacing them out so he gets them each time gets a checkup instead of 5 or 6 at once. That way he still gets all his shots, hes just not overloading his body with them all at once.
For what it's worth, I asked my wife (a nurse) about this, and she said she generally does two per arm but can do three, and that the doses are so small there's really no risk of an adverse reaction. As long they're getting done on time it's not a problem to space them out, though.

print out this thread and burn it in shame in 30 years when non-biased studies come out and prove me right
I have zero shame about admitting when I'm wrong or changing opinions when new evidence is presented. I've asked you myriad times for evidence, and you never provide it. We've had this same exchange probably a dozen times: (paraphrase) Me: I claim x You: That's not true because y Me: Here's proof of x; show me proof of y You: All studies are corrupt Me: Show me your own sources You: You wouldn't believe them Me: Post them anyway And then the conversation ends. You're saying wacky shit like, "flu vaccines increase insurance premiums & pacify the population", and act the victim when nobody respects your opinion.

The whole thing is a cash grab you have to pay for the flu shot in the US?
Insurance companies do, and they up your premiums because of it.
No they don't.
Yes they do.

the flu vaccine is a joke.
Just in case anyone's thinking this might be true, please get the flu vaccine. It saves thousands of children and elderly people each year, and herd immunity applies.
Except that's a fucking lie, and 100% government propaganda.
25,000 die each year because of the flu. How does it feel to personally contribute to those deaths?
The sparse amount of people who die from the flu (it's not 25,000) http://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2010/08/26/129456941/annual-flu-death-average-fluctuates-depending-on-how-you-slice-itThe new average is an average of the past 31 seasons. It goes all the way back to 1976. But if you were to look at just the past 10 seasons, the average per year is higher — 32,743.
Or you can look at this way: In some years as few as 3,349 have died (back in 1986-7). But the highest annual average toll was 48,614, just seven seasons ago (2003-4). wouldn't have been helped by a flu vaccine anyway. The whole thing is a cash grab, and the vaccine itself is also packed with many other harmful chemicals than the flu shot. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_vaccine_ingredientshttp://www.kevinmd.com/blog/2015/01/scared-flu-vaccine-lets-see-whats-really-inside.htmlhttp://www.skepticalraptor.com/skepticalraptorblog.php/flu-vaccine-myth-big-pharma-profits/http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2015/02/vaccines-are-profitable-so-what/385214/While the main fixation of anti-vaccine groups is an old, discredited study linking vaccination to autism, another is a conspiracy theory circulated online that both doctors and pharmaceutical companies stand to profit financially from vaccination—which supposedly leads to perverse incentives in advocating for the public to vaccinate.
But that argument is historically unfounded. Not only do pediatricians and doctors often lose money on vaccine administration, it wasn't too long ago that the vaccine industry was struggling with slim profit margins and shortages. The Economist wrote that "for decades vaccines were a neglected corner of the drugs business, with old technology, little investment and abysmal profit margins. Many firms sold their vaccine divisions to concentrate on more profitable drugs."
In fact, vaccines were so unprofitable that some companies stopped making them altogether. In 1967, there were 26 vaccine manufactures. That number dropped to 17 by 1980. Ten years ago, the financial incentives to produce vaccines were so weak that there was growing concern that pharmaceutical companies were abandoning the vaccine business for selling more-profitable daily drug treatments. Compared with drugs that require daily doses, vaccines are only administered once a year or a lifetime. The pharmaceutical company Wyeth (which has since been acquired by Pfizer) reported that they stopped making the flu vaccine because the margins were so low.
...
In the U.S., a study looking at the benefits of vaccination between 1994 and 2013 estimated a net savings of $295 billion in direct costs and $1.38 trillion in total societal costs. Looking at the last 50 years of the vaccine market, it's absurd to think profits could have ever been the sole motivation of vaccine production. In fact, 83 percent of Americans believe that the MMR vaccine is safe. Profits from vaccine production aren't a valid argument against vaccinations—the most important question is whether vaccines are safe and effective, and the answer is unambiguously yes.

-Keep records of any contracts, awards, qualifications, etc. that you earn, because nobody will care more about your professional record than you will -Start investing in your retirement plan of choice immediately, and make sure it isn't all allocated to safe, low-return options
