The Flood / Re: How Good Is Your Hygiene?
« on: October 06, 2016, 09:13:43 AM »
If you don't floss then your teeth aren't clean and you likely have bad breath.

http://bigstory.ap.org/article/f7e66079d9ba4b4985d7af350619a9e3/medical-benefits-dental-floss-unproven

The only proven way to prevent cavities and gum disease is twice daily brushing with fluoride. Mouthwashes and flossing may help slightly if done consistently in the long-term, but there's very little evidence to support that it's the most important part of oral hygiene, as purported by the dental industry.

Haven't played since the last expansion, and didn't stay long after beating the raid. Is the new content as grind-y as it's always been? Is it worth getting? I do like Destiny's gameplay and have a lot of friends that play it, but if it's only a few hours of new content followed by grinding the same missions and strike(s) over and over, I'll pass.

It's pretty nasty if you don't do all of that daily (except trim nails/clean ears), and "wash face" should = cleanse, tone, & moisturize, not just throwing some soap on your face.

Gaming / Re: Why can't developers compress downloads?
« on: October 05, 2016, 04:38:15 PM »
Compressing and unpacking textures is difficult to do, and with data caps and downloading speeds increasing each year there's no real incentive for producers to do so, not to mention it provides an incentive for customers to preorder and pre-load.

The animation is still pretty terrible.

There's no way they can keep the series' ending without pissing off the general audience.

It's Netflix, so I'm sure it'll be good. If it'll be a faithful adaptation remains to be seen.

Skip to 1:12:00 for the legitimate criticisms of the movie.
does he ever combat the idiots who claim that rey is a mary sue

or is he one of them

I skipped around because the first hour of the review is a discussion about the prequels. I believe they addressed it in the original RLM review, and IIRC they just kind of shrugged it off, but in this review it was pointed out that Finn is basically useless because Rey is already a "strong" character from the get-go.

Gaming / Re: How do you guys feel about voiced vs. silent protagonists?
« on: October 02, 2016, 08:05:57 PM »
A game doesn't have to be character-driven to have a solid story or narrative. Personally I prefer silent (or mostly blank slate) protagonists unless a game is designed to be heavily focused around that character's personality. I really enjoy Legend of Zelda even though Link is a non-character, and I really don't enjoy Deus Ex because Adam Jenson is an obnoxious dumbass. An example where I do appreciate a voiced protagonist is Bioshock Infinity; normally when a game attempts to keep a secret until the end, the player picks up on it well before the character does, and that inhibits immersion. In Bioshock, the confusion and lack of knowledge of Booker's past makes sense in the narrative.

tl;dr it's "pretty good" but it wasn't sufficiently original

Pretty par for the course for Abrams' franchise-restoration.

I've accepted the fact that every team will now have a Hanzo and a Widowmaker, even on Attack.
Gotta love those offensive Torbjorns too

It was kind of a novel strategy early on when Torbs were super OP and nobody knew how to counter him well.

I wouldn't really call losing $916M in a single year gaming the tax code. Surely that loss far outweighs how much he would have paid in taxes. He's just a garbage businessman with a weird 90s cult of personality thing going on.

If people are getting this mad over No Man's Sky and how it was a kick starter, I can't wait for people to wake up to the Star Citizen scam.
What about it is a scam?

How is that any different than the tanks in World of Tanks or paid DLC?

I don't play WoT, but the fact that the model is used in other games doesn't make it a good one. As for paid DLC, I'd sure like to see DLC that costs $15,000 and isn't restricted to playing with others that own the same DLC.

It's pretty astounding that fans still defend such a bullshit pay to win model.

people are really this mad about an indie kickstarter game that wasnt even bad

2016 is wild

The fact that it was a kickstarter game, entirely funded by fans, is a perfectly valid reason to be upset about it.

I've got it pretty good right now. Inevitably a deployment will fuck that up. I think Americans in particular put too much of an emphasis on being early and staying late.

youll be good man, youll win on your side. accidents always have people shaken up for a while

I'm not sure there's really any way to win. The conditions for the oncoming driver's fault are that they were speeding, they drove through a red light, or that it was reasonably safe for me to turn. I can't prove they were speeding, I can't prove for certain that the light was red, and I don't know how to justify why I believed my turn was safe.

Pretty sure she ends up killing Samara and joining your team disguised as Samara, but ok.

Nah you choose which to recruit, and romancing her results in death.

it shouldnt be your fault, right?

I received a citation for failure to yield, since lefts always have to yield. I did yield, but thought the car was stopping since the light was yellow for several seconds.
You're alright?
Yeah, no injuries even though the car that hit me had two kids and a pregnant woman. Kind of tense and finding it hard to concentrate on work right now though.

« on: September 28, 2016, 05:10:44 PM »
Turning left at a yellow light (was already in the intersection), oncoming car hits me either at the tail end of the yellow (as I waited for the rest to stop) or while it was red. They have a witness saying it was green, though I have footage from a gas station that, while not showing the lights, indicates it was either red or yellow because another oncoming car stopped at the light immediately after the car hit me. Regardless, I know for certain it was not green, and I have no idea why this person is saying otherwise.

Both cars are probably totaled. The other driver never had a driver's license in her life, though the car does seem to be insured. I'll probably be out my deductible but I'm planning on contesting the citation in court.

Anyways, fuck.

I imagine they see it as similar to wearing human skin; surely you wouldn't tolerate someone doing so in public. And really, the fur trade is absolutely worth reviling.
