it was not hackneyed, it was executed perfectly - if you didnt feel the chemistry between ashi and jack this season youve probably just never fallen in love and cant understand what it looks like

rocky didn't start getting macho until rocky 3, and i would agree that's when the series started getting kinda dumb too the difference is, it's still appealing because you're not really supposed to take it seriously anyway—it's just dumb fun there is nothing fun about a rushed, hackneyed romance plot with characters who have no business being with each other anyway in a series that was never about love in the first place

Is it actually non-canon, or is the end so ridiculous it's hard to believe the creators made it canon?
it's probably not all that bad--this is me we're talking about i tend to look at episodes cumulatively rather than on an individual basis, so this has been building up for awhile but like what napalm said, the series has gone in a direction that NOBODY (except for 13-year-old shippers and people who missed the point of the first four seasons) wanted it to go expect fanservice of all types and little else, samurai jack is pretty much dead to me
