Gaming / Re: Mini SNES Classic - Launching in September for $80
« on: June 26, 2017, 02:21:57 PM »
The real question is how much will a majority of the people interested have to pay to scalpers to get one after the inevitable shortages?
"Nintendo has also confirmed to IGN that the company plans to ship 'significantly more' SNES Classic units than it did for the NES Classic."

Sure, I guess, depending on the girl?

Do people under the age of 30 still slow dance?

i dont understand the question
A slow dance is a type of partner dance in which a couple dance slowly, swaying to the music. This is usually done to very slow-beat songs, namely sentimental ballads.
YouTube

i know what a slow dance is

what i dont understand is your question. how could someone, bar physical injury, not be able to slow dance.
i think he's asking if you'd have the confidence to, or if you're comfortable with the idea

Gaming / Re: Your Gaming story
« on: June 25, 2017, 08:33:15 PM »
I actually had a video idea where I'd talk about this in-depth, but I guess I can touch upon it here.

My dad was hugely into gaming in his childhood, but he never really ventured beyond the NES and SNES. He hated handhelds and didn't like Sega. By the time I was born, the PS1 had already been released in America, but my dad still only had his two Nintendo consoles—and understandably so; since he became a father, he probably didn't have much time to be playing video games anymore.

That said, even though I was born well into the fifth generation, I pretty much grew up with old-school Nintendo games, and the same ones my dad used to play.

When I was two or three, the first game I ever played was Sesame Street: ABC & 123 for the NES, which was a two-in-one educational game for toddlers such as myself at the time. I'm not sure if it actually taught me anything—I think it just kind of tripped me out.

YouTube

Eventually, when I turned three or four, I tried lots of other games—among the classics, the Super Mario Bros. trilogy, The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, Metroid, Castlevania, Contra, and plenty more. I loved them all—even the not-so-good ones like Karnov and Deadly Towers—but I particularly enjoyed Zelda and Castlevania.

Naturally, I was terrible, and could never make it very far into any game without my dad's help—I preferred to watch my dad play anyway, because he actually knew what he was doing. Super Mario Bros. may just have been the first game I've ever beaten, even though I probably used the warp zones. My dad would beat everything else—even Punch-Out!!, which is pretty impressive, given that the game's challenge is based on your own reaction time, and he was already pushing 30 (your reaction time peaks in your mid-20s). The only game that ever gave him trouble was Castlevania and Zelda II, which are pretty intense games—kinda the Dark Souls of that era.

When I watched him play Metroid, he kept Samus's gender a secret from me until he beat it. I always appreciated that.

Today, I've beaten almost all the games that kicked my ass as a child—I still have to beat Punch-Out!!, though, and some day, I will.

By the time my dad introduced me to the Super Nintendo, I was six years old, and video games had become my favorite hobby. There was almost nothing else I wanted to do—nothing else came close. My favorite SNES games to play were Killer Instinct, A Link to the Past, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, and Yoshi's Island. I liked Super Metroid, too, but I only declared it my favorite game sometime in my adulthood a couple summers ago.

This was also around the same time I got my turquoise Game Boy Color. That was when I discovered Pokémon, obviously, and played some dope-ass games like Wario Land 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons.

Never really played the Nintendo 64 in my childhood—we picked one up much later. As such, all I knew at the time were 8-bit to 16-bit sprite-based graphics. The first next-gen console we had ever bought since I was baby was the PlayStation 2, which was quite the leap in graphical capability—I remember that being a mind-blowing experience. From there, we got ourselves a GameCube—never bought an Xbox until early adulthood, because fuck Xbox.

At some point in my teens, my dad and I decided to start collecting old video game consoles—even obscure ones like the Vectrex and the Fairchild Channel F—and now we own nearly every major console in existence, with the exception of Microsoft's, because Microsoft can suck a fat dick.

In summary: my first console was the NES, and my first game was an educational Sesame Street game. Gaming is still one of my favorite pastimes, and even my dad's interest in gaming has slowly been rekindling as of late. Between the two of us, we have over 1000 games in our collection across pretty much any console you could name.

Trying to get the Diskun trophy (trophy that basically signifies 100% completion) in SSBM was fucking stupidly difficult. I've never had so jump through so many stupid little hoops.

The trophy requires you to score every single "bonus point" after a match at least once. When you complete a match in that game, you'll get points based on the random shit you did during the fight—like, you'll score 1000 points if you bounced on a Goomba's head or something, or you'll get 2000 points if you KO'd while someone using a certain item. You can also lose points—maybe you'll lose 500 points for missing too many grabs.

There's also really stupid and obscure ones. You get 8000 points for throwing a Poké Ball during a game and having a Celebi or Mew pop out, for example. Mew has a 1 in 151 chance of appearing, but only after you unlocked every character and every stage (which, in itself, takes a lot of work). Celebi has a 1 in 251 chance of appearing, but only after you do a bunch of other chores first.

Then there are bonuses that are just asinine. There's one called Hammer Drop, that simply requires you to drop a hammer. As in, the item. The problem is, once you pick up this item, your character starts swinging it around uncontrollably, like in Donkey Kong, making it impossible to drop except under some extremely obscure circumstances, like getting hit by lava as you're swinging it around, making it so you can drop it. It's so fucking weird.

And then of course, there are bonuses that are just straight-up insanely difficult, like No Damage Clear, which has you beating one of the arcade modes without taking one single solitary hit. Even when you set the game to Very Easy, this is an extremely frustrating one to get, and I'll never forget when I finally did it with my main man Roy.

Here's a whole list of the rest of the bonuses you have to get.

Once the game records them all, you unlock the final trophy:

I probably consider this my #1 gaming accomplishment.

All right, watched. The level of trivia wasn't bad at all. I'd say it was just right, actually.

I always kill rats every time I see them, but I don't think I've gotten one single bit of humanity from them in my 100+ hours of gameplay.
Drop rate is 3-5%. I got one later and have it recorded for one of the next videos.
I see. I get humanity much more frequently from crystal hollows, actually—it feels like 1 in 8, unless I got lucky around that segment.

Finish the website I'm designing for my dad's shop
Finish Dark Souls by a time that I won't specify so that I don't jinx it

Write a chapter of my new book (new new, as in, this is what I dreamed about the other day) every other week until it's finished. First week is spent planning/writing, second week is for revising. Don't be too strict or you'll fail. Allow yourself short breaks if need be. Don't rush. Write the best story that you can.

When I played through Majora's Mask for the first time a couple years ago, I decided to play on the Collector's Edition disc for the GameCube, because I didn't own the game on N64 yet, and it also wasn't out on 3DS at the time.

This turned out to be a mistake, because this particular NGC port turned out to be a complete and utter piece of shit—which confuses me to this day, because I've played the game casually over the years several times without any big problems, but as soon as I decided to actually play through and complete the game, the port shit the bed on me several times.

Every time a new screen loaded (e.g. passing through a door in a dungeon to load a new area chunk, for example), the game had a small chance—I'm gonna say 2%—of crashing. The game would just freeze and occasionally make a high-pitched noise, forcing you to quit out and restart all over again.

This sort of thing happened most frequently in dungeons.

If you're familiar with how the game works, you know that it doesn't use a conventional saving system. Saving in that game is a big commitment, because you can't just save whenever you want—and there's a good, legitimate reason for that. But for me, that means that, whenever the game crashed, I had to start all over again hours and HOURS back.

But I still put up with it and managed to 100% complete the game anyway, because I simply loved the game that much.

good shit

I didn't know you could see the Stray Demon that early, which is odd, because it seems like such a conspicuous location. Guess I know where I'm headed back to now!

I'm jealous of the picture-in-picture stuff you have going on. That's one thing that WMM lacks, which really sucks.

Only thing—I'm assuming you're only grabbing the items you think you'll absolutely need for this run anyway, but I hope you try to keep discussion of the game's secrets to a minimum, if you can avoid it. Talking about how the Stray Demon can be seen early on is fine, but talking about how you'll end up fighting him later is something I maybe would've preferred figuring out by myself, assuming I didn't already know. It's not a big deal, but given that you're speaking in a manner that assumes the viewer doesn't know a lot about Dark Souls, I think that's a reasonable suggestion.

You can do what you want, though—this was a splendid first video.
