Long winded? It's a few sentences Could've been seven words. Any multi-sentenced point that could be made in just one sentence is long-winded. At no point did the author bring up those "flavors" being mapped to any particular area, nor is any of it a foundational argument.
And not being so long-winded wouldn't have created that confusion. Clearly, I'm not the only person who was confused, either, because at least two other people liked my post. All he had to say was "our tongues are sensitive to five basic tastes," but he chose to be wordy and opaque. Even if I grant him the dumb analogy, he's still using it to illustrate a nonsensical point.

It's an analogy, but what are you talking about? The sweet/sour/bitter/salty/umami model is widely accepted and proven.
A shitty analogy that doesn't work, and it seemed to me like he was referring to this. If he's not, he chose a very long-winded way to illustrate his point--probably to appear scientifically literate so that more people would buy into his logic. One of the most robust findings in social psychology is that people find ways to believe whatever they want to believe. Very revealing sentence. He's projecting pretty hard here.

Haven't seen a military FPS been reviewed so favorably since Cod 4/MW2. Never has a BF single player been praised so heavily. Even Bad Company 2 was faulted for its predictable "twist".

I want to respect Ocarina player, but part of the many reasons I stopped going to cons is because I kept seeing obese neckbeards walking around with an Ocarina around their neck (obviously in front of a Tri-Force tee) trying to play it and failing horribly.
