I liked his line.

I'm also among the 2% of humanity who loves puns, so whatever.

Someone should splice together the best parts of each edition so we can all be happy.

There were PLENTY of good edits, as collected in this video:

Sharing cancer is cancer in itself

But I mean, your face is the aftermath of cancer too
You're such a tryhard, holy shit.
Shut the fuck up, I used that in another thread like 20 minutes ago. If I wanted my comeback I'd wipe it off your mom's chin.
That one's actually good, finally.
It's also super old and overused.
and loses half its punch in text

RotJ's ending with everyone celebrating is the most cathartic shit ever. Makes me feel damn good, ever tiem. What a perfect ending, made only better in the special editions.

People will complain about the Ewoks until the end of time--I'm basically just numb to them at this point. They're there, they've always been there, they don't bother me, I don't care, I never cared. They're fine, especially for the little ones.

everything seems to be in order where i'm at, but we'll see what happens

I disagree with the first one entirely tbh. It's not a soft reboot because of whatever mistakes ANH had, it's a soft reboot because it's made 40 years later. It'd be a bit hard to do the Thrawn trilogy nowadays outside of animation. I don't think it's a "do over" at all, it's literally made as a love letter to ANH. TFA recaptures the same energy as it, and that's why it's one of my favorites from the franchise despite some of its weaker moments.
i'm not saying it was made as a do-over--i'm saying it functions very well as a do-over if you so happened to hate ANH

which i did

so for the 3 people in the universe who didn't like the first star wars movie, they can watch the same movie again, but with a modern twist--everything ANH did, TFA did better, but ANH still gets credit for doing them first (however badly)

My entire argument for that though is one's acting is actually so well that it transcends the rather meh writing regarding her character, where as the other one is still boring as sin.
you really ate that half in the bag review up didn't you

ANH needed a whole separate movie, a soft reboot made three decades later, to do over everything it failed at

and ANOTHER whole separate movie--made nearly four decades later--to write off one of its biggest flaws

that's how good ANH is

I hate how Wookieepedia defaults to the Legends section and not the Canon section when looking shit up there.

In RotJ, he has this weird mix between contemporary speech and shakespeare.
a fair mix, given the timespan between episode 4 and 6 (four years)

it doesn't seem far-fetched to me that he'd take a level in diplomacy in that timespan--and ANH is as much a coming-of-age story as it is a space opera; so naturally, the end of the story, he's gonna sound more like the adult he's become, but still not full-on shakespeare (or yoda, for that matter)--a mix seems appropriate to me

i wouldn't be shocked if, in episode 8, luke speaks to rey the same way ben spoke to him--alec guinness being about as shakespearian as you can get in a film written for a wide audience

I've taken it upon myself to rewatch the whole saga--I think it's been a year.

If nothing else, Rogue One did succeed in rekindling my interest in Star Wars.

Plinkett reviews yes but that was always a trait of those specific reviews; that was when Stoklasa let forth every ounce of cynicism in his body. Half in The Bag was always a little more upbeat.
i don't know, show me an example of an upbeat review they did

they all (especially jay the unpleasable jackass, pictured above) seem like huge cynics constantly from what i've seen

Their reviews of such films have become e tainted by an overriding sense of cynicism which wasn't as prominent before.
are you serious

the plinkett reviews for the star wars prequels are the most cynical nitpicky pieces of shit i've ever seen in my life

and i know cynical

Both of them are pretty cute, but they each have glaring flaws; one being boring as sin and the other a total Mary Sue.
Rey is not a Mary Sue, let alone a "total" one.
Every fucking obstacle she faces is just an excuse to show how good at something she is.
That alone doesn't make her a Mary Sue.

Determinism is stupid because it's basically saying we do nothing but follow instinct, or like we're a programmed robot.

The fact is we can resist our instincts. End of discussion. I brought this up in Discord and you had no rebuttal.
I had a rebuttal, I just don't really know how to put it in words. I still don't.

I'd like to scale it back a bit and say we follow more than just "instinct," because that's probably an over-simplification. We follow outside influence. External factors cause us to think and behave in deterministic ways. That's the best way I can articulate it right now.

It was the lack of any back story for either of them. You don't really care about the girl, or her father, because the first thing you see is Storm Troopers walking from REALLY far away to get to the farm, and him telling them to go hide. Nothing nice or sweet with bonding time.

Same with the dude when he says he's been at this since he was 6.
i care about her because as a male i have a natural inclination to care about pretty girls

Were those girls in abusive relationships, where if they declined sex, they were beaten?
Beaten? No.

But don't be so quick to discount emotional hardship. A girl may well legitimately value a relationship more than she values not having sex, even when said sex is not good for her well-being. Stating a girl is spineless and weak for refusing to consent in this situation is a shitty thing to say.
No, I'm saying she's spineless for refusing not to consent. Very, VERY big difference there. If you don't want to have sex, then don't. Stand up for yourself. If your boyfriend is too much of a shithead to accept less sex, end the relationship. Clearly you're not sexually compatible--find someone else. So you didn't get what you wanted--Oh well, that's life. I didn't make it that way.

Quote
People are fallible, stupid and emotional. To think consent is the be-all-and-end-all is to elevate human deliberation to a status of which it isn't worthy; people make mistakes, and are often wrong about their own preferences.
That's why it's your job to hone your judgment skills. Assess each situation carefully. Weigh out your options. Think a little bit. Use your fucking brain. Consent is one of the only things we have to affirm whether someone wants to do something or not, and you've still failed to address the point I made where consent is more than just a simple "yes" or a "no." There's a little bit more that goes into it. Body language being a big one.

If your lips say "yes" but your face/body says "I would really rather not," that's not a yes. That's when you ask things like "Are you sure?" or say things like "We can do it later if you want to." There's a subtle nuance to consent that you're failing to recognize.

Quote
Do you honestly disagree that the minimisation of suffering is the prime moral imperative? I can obviously see how consent can minimise culpability in given situations, but inflicting harm on people is still immoral as fuck.
If you WANT nothing more than pain to be inflicted on you, how could you express that to somebody without sounding insane, mentally ill, or otherwise lacking sound judgment?

Or do you have to be insane to be a masochist? I think you'd have a good case for that.

11577
but it's still her fault for not having the autonomy or the spine to say no.
I actually know a few girls who've been in the situation I've described, and I'm not going to lie this is a shitty thing to say.
Why is it a shitty thing to say? Were those girls in abusive relationships, where if they declined sex, they were beaten?

Do you think that counts as real consent?

Because you have a pretty simple-minded definition of "consent" if you think a verbal "yes" is all you need.

11578
It does though, because I'm smarter than you. It's a cult like mentality.
LMAO

there are people who are genuinely smarter than me on this forum

you are not even CLOSE to being one of them

you're not even smart
Quote
Then you admit I'm right.
nope

everything is determined--this has nothing to do with religion, and only a slack-jawed retard would think it does

Quote
Really? Why? He had no choice. Why are you causing extra suffering by imprisoning someone who was always going to commit that crime?
because if we don't, they're going to create more suffering for other people who don't have any control over their actions

DURRRR
Quote
So playing pretend is better than facing reality that (even bough this doesn't exist) everything is determined.
playing pretend IS facing reality

Quote
You don't even accept the bullshit you believe. That's how fucked in the head you are.
playing pretend IS accepting it

it's taking as much responsibility as you can

you're basically saying it's okay to continue letting bad people do bad things just because it's not their fault

okay, evil crazy religious cunt person

11579
It's religious in nature. You can be in denial all you want, but the fact is it's like a cult.
"like" a cult doesn't mean it is a cult

or a religion

it literally doesn't matter what you think it's like
Quote
You should be able to defend them pretty easily then.
good thing that's what i'm doing, with no effort

Quote
Which says everything is determined.
yes, little boy, that is correct

Quote
Unfortunately that isn't an argument. You can't incarcerate someone who had no choice in the matter.
unfortunately it is an argument, and you can

Quote
Is it? How does it even matter? There's no choice in anything.
negative sensation is still negative

it still hurts to feel pain

we can't stop it because everything is determined, but we can still pretend

and that's all we're doing

pretending that we're doing something

you're saying that we shouldn't pretend--why? that's retarded
