you handled it fine, but i would've dispensed with the ellipses and put at the end of the first message instead even if emojis don't work on your computer, is just a good way to say "it's no big deal, i'm just giving you a hard time" it makes people less defensive in my experience, and helps them understand their error and move on without feeling bad

Ironically, if he said it in person, I'd have no problem with verbally correcting him, even in public.
I guess it's just easier to be polite about it, or make it funny w/o making him feel bad. It's hard to call somebody a dumbass in a playful tone on the Internet--even if you baby-proof the shit out of your post.

I probably would've done just that, with strategic use of emojis to not look like a dick. That's what they're for, after all.

Responsible implies that you're irresponsible if you don't drink it.
I can't take that response seriously.
Not my problem. I can't take the idea that I should drink caffeine seriously.
I never implied that you should drink coffee. It's an option, and it can provide benefits if you drink the proper amount.
If the benefits outweigh the downsides (or if there are no downsides), then that means you should do it.
Like the benefits of following a natural diet and eating certain meats over packing with supplements?
If the benefits outweighed the downsides, yes. In this case, no, the downsides heavily outweigh any benefits you could come up with.

Wait what is the reasoning behind this? It's not psychoactive, and it's not harmful. Where is the logic?
Caffeine is extremely harmful and addictive.
Okay so you condemn the abuse of caffeine, but your post makes it sound like you condemn the responsible use of caffeine.
Do you deny that the responsible use of caffeine exists?
Responsible implies that you're irresponsible if you don't drink it.

The caffeine in the coffee is the reason why it has its benefits. It may be addicting in a way, but products that contain it naturally are usually healthy. Numerous nuts and fruits have caffeine, and coffee cherries on their own offer quite a bit.
Don't become all nettled and compare it to an unhealthy drug because it contains properties that prevents drowsiness.
What do you mean addicting "in a way"? It's addicting.

This is just nonsense, man. Real happiness? What? If someone experiences happiness, they've experienced happiness. It has to be for a reason. Forcing dopamine release is not a reason--it's forced. That's not happiness. It's just meaningless pleasure. If that's what you want, I want nothing more than to stomp a mudhole in your stupid ass and walk it the fuck dry. You think that emotions derived from a series of pictures generated by a computer are somehow more genuine?
Yes, it's absolutely more genuine. It's still a waste of time because it's not real, but it's better than literally nothing.

Oh I guarantee if they did what I say here violent crime would drop. It is my belief that if you take a life, yours no longer matters. A life for a life. I think I read there are 180,000 people in US prisons for murder. That's a whole lot, but you know what? I would have absolutely no problem if everyone of them was executed tomorrow. Killing nearly 200,000 people sounds awful. But it's retribution for all the lives they took.
are you vegan do you kill small insects do you want to cure cancer being pro-death penalty is all well and good, but your reasoning is very poor

These claims are ridiculous, I guess anyone who drinks coffee for the sole purpose of waking up in the morning is a moron
Yes.
Caffeine is EXTREMELY unhealthy, and you're no better than a crackhead if you drink it in my eyes.
Except coffee in moderation is healthy.
It doesn't matter if it is. It's still caffeine, so you still shouldn't drink it.

But you're wrong about this. Some drugs, not all mind you, can be safely used. If done properly, you aren't risking anything.
Hence my addition of the word "wasting."
Regardless of whether you're risking your life, it's still a waste of time. It's still stupid as fuck.
There's absolutely no way out of it--you're a fucking moron if you use any drug ever for recreational purposes.
How is it a waste of time any more than playing video games or watching tv is a waste of time?
It's not. Those are wastes of time too. The difference is that video games are less harmful, and you're actually experiencing real happiness when playing them. Drugs induce fake happiness. Dopamine pleasure for no real reason.

In (descriptions of) psychedelic experiences, the term is used synonymously with ego-loss,[7][8][1][9] to refer to (temporary) loss of one's sense of self due to the use of psychedelics. That sounds legitimately terrifying. Why would anyone want that? It's more so the loss of individual identity. The sense of self is often said to sort of expand actually, to things beyond the body or the mind. Which is where you get people's accounts of experiencing 'oneness' with the universe or reality.
If you were trying to answer his question, you didn't do that.

As for why? Honestly, why wouldn't you want to experience that? You're no longer yourself, you don't have to be tied down and forced into self-perceiving an identity you don't want.
when you attempt to answer your own rhetorical question, your answer should actually answer the question
not reinforce someone's hatred of the idea you're attempting to defend
because what you just said is exactly why you shouldn't want to experience that
Why is it so hard for you to understand that some people enjoy perceiving reality in unfamiliar ways?
because you're risking and/or wasting your entire fucking life, health, sanity, etc. Why is it so hard for YOU to understand that? Why is it so hard for you to understand that sobriety is the only way?
