You're welcome to disagree with the practice of tipping -- I agree that servers should be paid a fair and competitive wage -- but to ignore the fact that it's social convention and you're literally hurting peoples' livelihood with some asinine excuse about slavery is just selfish. Just admit you're too cheap to tip and move on with your life.

Once I start going to restaurants myself, I will tip accordingly. Like last week, this waiter took fucking forever and I had my glass out in the open to basically say "my glass is empty". He came by a few times and nothing. His tip was like 2 bucks.
Some people fucking suck as waiters.
I don't understand why you would want to be a waiter in America. Your paycheck is extremely volatile. I'm getting a job as a waiter/errand boy soon, and I'll have a paycheck of $14 an hour.
I'd only become a waiter during the holidays. Tips are huge that time.
Yeah, I'd imagine you'd have to ride waves of sorts to get any sort proper cash flow out of the tipping system. Best thing about it here though is that you get paid a decent amount of money on top of a tip every now and then.

If you inform yourself about the origin of tipping you will recognise, that you probably do not want to be tipped.
It all started with rich people tipping their servants who actually were slaves. A tip was not there to give money to someone, but to show him the tipper is better than him.
So actually everytime you receive a tip it's not for your friendliness, it's because you are a poor sucker who stands below his guest in regard to status.
American resturants and bars took the whole tipping to a new level to not having to pay their personal. That also shows your status as a slave who is dependant on tips.
If you take tips with this knowledge you realize that you are not better than the guy on the streets who sprays dirty water at cars windshields and demands money for it.
Do you even realize that you are fucking stupid to complain to the customer rather than to your boss who brought you in this situation?
Tipping is 100% voluntary and not your fucking paycheck. If you are too stupid to boycott your boss then you should not blame the customer who pays only 10% for your missing efforts in negotiating.
tl;dr if you sell yourself as a slave you should not blame others for your misery

nothing bad about a little sugar dude, I LOVE cooking potatoes with my less strict meals, like supper, and breakfast I make hash browns cooked in a bit of bbq sauce and some salt n pepper on sundays along with some sausage, eggs, and bacon all put into a breakfast sandwich. it's perfection between two buns.
I'm kind of jealous of you, being able to enjoy food like that. I always feel incredible guilt.
