The Flood / Re: There's nothing morally wrong with pushing the red button
« on: September 01, 2015, 03:08:17 PM »
You're right, because when I die, if there is no afterlife, I wont remember any of it anyway, and it will be like essentially the same as if it didn't happen at all.
But it DID happen. It doesn't matter that you don't remember it. You're not the only thing that matters in the universe.

Nothing matters in the universe. Organisms aren't any more important than inanimate objects.

Pain isn't a morality factor, but a biological factor. There's nothing 'good' or 'bad' about it, just like pleasure, or drowsiness.

Sure, but that doesn't mean it is objectively negative.
Then I hope you experience the most excruciating pain for the rest of your life, because it doesn't matter to you anyway.

He still won't want to experience that pain despite being a nihilist, because, well, it IS pain. You are forced in most cases by the body to avoid the sensation of pain as it usually means something is going wrong and that you are being damaged.

Says who?
Imagine if I took a hammer to your face.

You're telling me it wouldn't hurt.

Of course it would hurt, but that doesn't mean it's 'bad'. Pain is just an organisms response to stimuli that could entail its destruction.

There's nothing wrong with NOT pushing the button either, as nothing matters.
Nihilists leave and stay leave.

Nihilism is completely valid. We are just experiencing this incomprehensibly large void of heat from the tiny, narrow shutter that is human perception. There is no such thing as positivity or negativity - those are merely human constructs.

You can believe that there is such thing as a 'good', or 'bad', of course, but it won't matter in the grand scheme of things.

The Flood / Re: Does anyone remember metas suicide threads?
« on: September 01, 2015, 02:30:36 PM »
People who publicize their suicide unsolicited are complete assholes. It's an extremely low way of attention mongering. Don't ever try to talk to someone who says they want to commit suicide. I have talked to multiple people like that and they suck all the energy out of you, all because they want someone to give them attention. Then they will probably go ahead and try to commit suicide anyways because once the attention you give them isn't enough to satisfy them, they will just get sad again.

It's terrible that people feel the need to go on the internet to whine about suicide at all. They are usually so lonely and depressed that they have nobody to turn to, so they attempt to talk to people online to find someone who might maybe just give the slightest shit. It does seem like attention seeking, but they just want someone to share their pain with them.

Have you ever been all alone, with no friends or family, and nobody in the world giving a shit about you? It's fucked up man, real fucked up.

I'm not denying that there are cunts out there that do that kind of stuff solely for the attention, though. Fuck those assholes.
I'm not making assumptions, but have you ever talked to anyone who's suicidal? It's not like you just talk to them once really nicely and it makes them better at all. They will keep coming back to you time and time again just venting furiously, they don't really want you to talk either, they just want to vent. It's not really something that you can actually help someone with and a lot of times people like this can be a very giant negative influence on your life.

True, true, they are an emotional burden, which is something most people don't need in life as they have enough shit on their plate already. What a lot of them don't realize as well is that online conversation doesn't make much of a difference. Sure, it helps a little, but not as much as a real discussion. So they just keep coming back to vent without feeling better at all.

I guess I relate better to these people dealing with those kinds of issues than most as I am able to hear their plight and not be emotionally drained. One reason for this is because I prefer to listen, rather than talk, and another reason is that I've always naturally been an extremely negative, nihilistic person, so the negativity has little to no effect on me.

I'm fine with the subject being talked about privately, but when people publicize it on places like Facebook is when I start having a problem.

The Flood / Re: How the fuck did "oh" become a meme?
« on: September 01, 2015, 08:31:03 AM »
As far as I can remember, it was Naru that started it by simply replying "oh" to a post, and me and a few others (I think the shitposting triad) found it funny and perpetrated it by spamming it and blank quotes everywhere. I guess the excessive usage made it take off into a psuedo forced meme of sorts.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure that's what happened.

Looks like you just experienced sonder, brother.
Yo how many spikey face avatars do you have? I have a collection of spikey face pictures too. I dunno if it was you and a different person but I saw two spikey face pictures on people's avatar.

Spoiler

Was it this, by any chance? That's Craig "133" Jones. If it was, that was just a case of me finding a better avatar after uploading one.
EWWWWWW! I hate slipknot. I take back my complements on the avatar.

Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man. I've been in love with Slipknot ever since I've seen them live. They put on a hell of a show.

The Flood / Re: why do bike lanes exist?
« on: August 31, 2015, 06:48:17 PM »
This has to be the most important question of all, and one that requires very careful consideration. To start at the beginning lets examine the question. The word 'why' is asking a question, we can all agree on that, the question being why do bike lanes exist.

The next word 'why' when used in conjunction with 'do' is asking a question that is looking for a reason for something, in this case a reason for bike lanes to exist. This question is based on two assumptions 1) That there is a reason, and 2) That bike lanes exist.

Regarding the first assumption, that there is a reason, this is central to the question and it is therefore wrong to assume that it is so before we even start to answer the question.

I need to rephrase the question to: Is there a reason for the existence of bike lanes? This question is a reasonable one to make as it does not assume that there is a reason. The second assumption, that bike lanes exist, is necessary in order to make the question meaningful. If it did not exist the question of there being a reason would not arise. The actual existence of bike lanes can not of course be proved one way or the other. We perceive them to be real and I will assume, for the sake of this argument, that it is.

Having clarified the question we will now be able to proceed with the question suitably rephrased.
