There isn't truly a purpose for organisms, life itself is the result of a "monkey with an infinite amount of time and a typewriter" kind of situation, but you can use your advanced brain that we have been blessed with to create a false sense of purpose. All the more reason to put an end to it.
Also, why not wait? In reality humans won't be around long, it only seems that way because of our warped perception of time.

It is our choice. People do commit suicide.
Yes, we often have to battle our urges, but the fact that we can battle means that we can win, and if we win it's a choice.
But we still have urges. And people let those urges overwhelm them. Also, shift the focus from suicide. It was just an example of our survival instinct.

Well, explain, so that I may become informed.
Christmas was developed by Romans and placed at the date it is in order to hijack pagan holidays of the time. However, to suggest that Christmas does not have Christian origins is ridiculous. Christmas was developed very specifically as a Christian holiday to specifically replace the pagan Saturnalia- not as an evolution of it.
Over time, Christmas took on more and more unique traits, becoming a celebration of Christ's birth down the line. As it spread to western and northern Europe, it picked up many pagan traditions as well as people of different cultures adopted and adapted it to their lifestyles.
However, what has remained constant until recent history is Christmas' purpose- the veneration of Jesus Christ, be that in defiance of a pagan majority or in celebration of his birth. It was not until recently that capitalism and consumerism hijacked the holy day and turned it into an economic phenomenon. Christmas in the form most secular people today celebrate may have little to do with Christmas as 4th century Christians celebrated it, but the day is still holy to Christians and largely belongs to them.
TL;DR all Christmas has in common with the roman celebration it displaced is the date, and the pagan traditions we today associate with it were picked up later on as new cultures adopted it.
