Luckily; transvestite, transgender, and transsexual don't refer to gender - they refer to different 'types' of expression someone may have of themselves that isn't cisgender, thus the differentiation.
You can't lump everything of that variety as "other" just because you're too lazy to differentiate. There are heavy, HEAVY differences between a transsexual girl and a transvestite man - unless you think Eddie Izzard actually has a vagina and identifies as a woman.

Yes, probably because racism hasn't been accepted for a very long time. Homophobia has been accepted partially up until very recently, and transphobia is still HEAVILY predominant within society.
"Nigger" wasn't looked at as an evil word in 1920's because black people weren't seen as equals in the 1920's. Similarly, "tranny" is pretty common today because transgender/transsexual individuals are more commonly looked at as freaks and oddities than actual people.
I'm in the same boat as you though and none of this is an issue for me. It's a matter of you being too sensitive to what assholes think.

One has an obvious level of malice implied, the other obviously does not. Similarly, I say 'nigga' a lot because that's just slang that I use due to growing up in a heavily black area of Houston. I would not, however, say, "yes, well, let's look at these statistics that show the crime levels of whites and niggers in juxtaposition."
