Sure. But the game itself does fuck all about it, beyond the whole hollow thing. It enables players to act like shitheads, and that's what I hate.
As turkey said, you can punish people for acting like a shithead. Though, tbh, indictments have kinda been reduced to a message basically saying "this guy is super mad that you killed him".

No, you don't. There is no contract or disclaimer at the beginning of the game that says, "People in this game behave like cunts. Brace yourself."

The only legitimate complaints that can be had about PvP that doesnt apply to NPCs are shit netcode, exploits, and balance problems.
And breach of consent. Which is a pretty big fucking sin when it comes to playing a game that is meant to be entertaining to play.

It is consensual. Don't want people to invade? Go hollow or don't play the game. You don't get to play co-op if you play hollow, and you're forced to play as an ugly... thing.
Bad game design.
Your guy is usually covered head to toe in armour anyway so you don't have to see that dried out bacon strip. The character is titled "the chosen undead", though, so if you don't like playing as a zombie this game really isn't for you. An easy workaround to this is to play hollow and when you think you need help go human and summon someone (it's what I do when I don't want to fight people).

Because it isn't consensual, and you have to hamper your game experience in order to avoid it.
Bad game design.
Street Fighter is a PvP-oriented game. Matches are conducted consensually. You can kick players you don't like.
It is consensual. Don't want people to invade? Go hollow or don't play the game. I really fail to see how that's bad game design. I personally enjoy it when people invade me and I promptly hand their asses to them. It's just not your kind of game. It wasn't mine, either, until I got past the first hour.

Dark Souls has inspired many developers. It's really one of the best games ever made.
Nobody cares about the opinion of some guy who couldn't beat the tutorial.
I refused to beat the tutorial, because the game was just that much of an insult.
You just suck at Dark Souls. What's the big deal?
I suck at tolerating a game that allows you to fuck over other players who are just minding their own business.
You can just play hollow, then people can't invade you. Or you could just "git gud" and fend off invaders. It's really not that hard -- I tricked and destroyed a 3 man deathsquad before.
