Yeah, man. Shit was hilarious. We had this whole strategy set up in Anor Londo and nobody could beat us. Sometimes when someone invaded and saw the two of us coming at them they'd run away.

I made a minmax build before in Dark Souls with my brother and we ganked invaders.
We wouldn't even gesture, and we'd just start attacking the invaders right away, usually waiting for them to gesture since that makes them vulnerable. I got a lot of angry voicemail and messages. Shit made me a fuckton of souls.

Community can be bad, but honestly I've met some more people with a sense of humor/honor in Dark Souls, than I have for a lot of games.
It's almost a social experiment really. In Dark Souls 2 in duel arenas (there are arenas to fight in), players came up with the mechanic that, before a fight, you drink allll of your Estus Flask (the thing that restores your health), because it's frowned upon by honor rules to run away and heal and come back to fight. Of course they bow before duels too.
That goes to say though, that when invading other peoples world/vise versa, it's no hold bars since there is more at steak (unless you're right by a bonfire you just spawned at).
Yeah, spamming Estus is highly frowned upon in Dark Souls. It's strange that unspoken rules were formed in what pretty much equates to an open season.

I could be wrong, but I think if you read the match settings, you can check to see if an option called "friendly fire" is turned on or off. Is that not a thing?
I'm not saying that's not annoying--it totally is, and people shouldn't be able to do that. But you sign up for it.
You also sign up to get killed by a wanker every now and then when you play Dark Souls. But it is easily, easily avoidable if you take the right precautions.

It's a game.
You're not actually being harmed. The point of the game is that you CAN invade people.
It was a little weird at first, but that's the point of them game. That's what te developers intentionally did. And it works. You'll find most of the time people are looking for a fair duel either way.
I play games to have fun, surprise surprise, and it's a little hard to have fun when the game allows you to fucking ruin people's progress and shit, just by pressing a button. It's just so fucked. It's not about getting harmed--it's a matter of not wasting other people's time and just letting them have fun.
And if you think invading people is fun, well, you're a piece of shit. That's all I have to say about that.
You really are making a mountain out of a molehill. Death only hampers progress a little, and invaders these days are few and far between. Also, if you tell them that you don't want to fight, sometimes they have the courtesy to black crystal out of there. Unless you come across an asshole who likes to prey on people trying to play a game, that is. PvPers usually stick to places like the Forest that were designed for PvP.

You need to see this from the perspective of a developer trying to make money. They generally don't focus on what the tiny minority care about. It might suck for the tiny minority, but that's just how it is. Look at Fallout 4, for example.

You are also playing a game where you are expected to face off against a person at some point or another. It's avoidable, but still, one of the key components of the game is PvP. There should be a disclaimer in-game. For 99% of people, this isn't an issue.
