It's pretty true, though. American conservatives, in particular, are all gung-ho for whatever the military wants, but fuck those poor-ass, liberal, welfare queens who also don't make much money.

Something something bootstraps.
Can you not see why that is, though?

Marines quite clearly have pulled themselves up by their bootstraps. American conservatives are all for this because the military works hard; it's remuneration for labour, not welfare.

It's funny, because these are exactly the arguments that the more conservative crowd tells poor people.
Are you fucking serious?

Premise One - Recreation and psychological health are important to the military's integrity.
Premise Two - It's more expensive to raise the wages of soldiers than to provide our own recreational facilities.

Conclusion - We should provide our own recreational facilities.
Spoiler
And, like we've said, we're not even sure if this is totally free for the soldiers.

Trying to say "Lol, the conservatives are only supporting this because they're jingoistic flag-fuckers; they turn around and say what I'm saying to the poor" is a false equivocation of unbelievable proportions.

So...do what the rest of us do? Don't do stuff you can't afford.
What a stupidly capricious and facile thing to say. The morale and mental fortitude of our military is, quite literally, a matter of national security.

The idea that if we spent less on recreation we could raise wages is equally facile; soldiers are fucking expensive as it is. It's probably cheaper to build them their own collective golf courses than individually pay them enough so they can afford 18 holes.

What's wrong with stuff off base?
They might not be able to afford it, given the state of military wages.

It might not have the same psychological impact, not being supplied by the military itself.

It might not be a good idea to have a bunch of marines "off-site" and roaming around whenever they wanted to have a good time and blow off steam.

A whole host of reasons.

In general, he's been a good/great President on social issues.
Depends if you consider surveillance a social issue.

Illegal immigration/immigrants=bad for society and economy. I'm not going to have another discussion on this
Good, because you're wrong. There's no fundamental, metaphysical difference between legitimate and illegal immigrants, and the only reason you seem to see one is because of some sort of tacit authoritarianism.

Serious / Re: Obama's biggest acomplishment

Probably the executive order protecting immigrants from deportation.
Immigration might be good for the economy but it's bad for school systems when they become overloaded with students whose parents likely aren't paying any taxes.
I know, but Obama has a strong record with nativist immigration measures. Protecting illegals for deportation, and subsequently creating an easier, more streamlined path to citizenship is the best way to secure sufficient infrastructure.

She just got Meta'd
That reminds me, actually.

Context: My name's Ashton.

Apparently, somebody at school was doing something and somebody told them to "stop doing an Ashton". I really feel like I've made it.

Apparently the person was getting irate about something.

I feel as if you've missed the brunt of my question, so I'll phrase it more directly.

If the only suffering which could ever exist was voluntary would I) suffering still be inherently undesirable and II) would procreation still be immoral?

Must be nice to play golf for free.
If it can be shown to have a positive psychological effect for the marines themselves, then it's totally worth it.

Well the main purpose behind healthcare reform was that healthcare costs were rising faster than wages were, even before the recession.
The solution should've obviously been to expand supply.

Why? Why can't they go use their own money at a golf course?
Wait, is the course for officers or soldiers?

Of course marines can have fun. Go do it on their own money - not mine.
You want a fighting force capable of functioning psychologically. . . Right?
>military
>functioning psychologically

pick one
I'm using a very nebulous definition of "function".

Officers have had their own golf courses on post since the 1800's guys. Their luxuries and decadence shouldn't surprise anyone. Haven't you heard me complain about how the Officer corps is only a ceremonial waste of tax money anymore given the new role of the modern NCO before?
is it true that naval officers have their own waiters?
It is for ours

Why do you think I wanted to be a naval officer ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Also, it's likely there for the same reason that Camp Pendleton uses some of their areas as paintball/airsoft recreation - for marines to enjoy R&R and moral boost.
I didn't think of that, actually.

I'll have to see if this has a measurable psychological impact on the marines.

So now, how comes our Muslims have westernized so well while yours are in the street protesting for Sharia law?
Have they?

51pc of Mosques in the U.S. have texts on-site categorised as advocating extreme violence.
Does the Koran itself count as that though?
No. Only 19pc had no violent texts at all. If the Qur'an counted, that'd be 0pc.

Although it emerges to me that you may've been joking >.>
