Serious / Re: The story part 1« on: April 10, 2015, 01:40:23 PM »What the hell are you talking about? This board is for a very specific kind of discussion. If you're too sensitive to have this in the Flood, then stop being a pussy about it and just ask Flee to lock it. I mean, come on, you can't just put a disclaimer in the OP and expect the rules to no longer apply.Yeah, Meta's right. This doesn't belong in Serious. If you want to edit something or change it before I move the thread, now's the time.I don't see how this cannot be in serious. The rules don't state anything against it. And I've stated already why this is in serious. 6215

So, what the fuck have you just finished? What the fuck are you reading? What the fuck are you going to read? What the fuck are you going to buy in order to read?
I'm currently reading a biography of FDR by Jean Edward Smith (it's a bit dry), the third book of Adam Smith's The Wealth of Nations and The Map and the Territory 2.0 by Alan Greenspan. After I've finished those three, I'll be starting: The Problems of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell, Napoleon the Great by Andrew Roberts, The Quest for Cosmic Justice by Thomas Sowell, House of Debt by Mian and Sufi and A Universe From Nothing by Lawrence Krauss. On my Amazon wishlist I have: A Monetary History of the United States by Milton Friedman and Anna Schwartz, The Great Stagnation by Tyler Cowen, Wittgenstein: A Very Short Introduction by A.C. Grayling, The Antelope Strategy: Living in Rwanda After the Genocide by Jean Hatzfeld, Terror and Liberalism by Paul Berman and Our Mathematical Universe by Max Tegmark. 6234

Serious / Re: Can somebody tell me exactly what's wrong with Ted Cruz?« on: April 09, 2015, 05:03:15 PM »>pro lifeThis really doesn't matter, we can just kill the ones we don't want after they're born. It's has a higher rate of precision. Quote >anti gay (marriage, parades, public outings)I don't know about you, but they need to keep their "outings" in their fucking pants instead of in my children's faces. Quote >pro traditional marriageWhy wouldn't you want this? It's like you think you can rape your wife, or something. Quote >pro death penaltySo now you are pro-life? Quote >pro local education policiesI can't be having my kids be exposed to this African, chimp-fucking homosexuality Obama is mandating in the public schools. Quote >denies climate change and doesn't believe in environmental protectionYeah, well if the environment is so tough it can protect itself. Quote >pro gun and arms tradeWell, duh. We need efficient tools when we're killing queers. Quote >anti universal health careSo? If it's universal, that means we haven't denied it to people. And we want to deny it to any gays or Mexicans we miss. Quote >wants to build a wall to keep immigrants outNo, it's not so we can keep them out. It's so they'll drop a few feet before hitting the land-mines; gives them better trajectory. Quote >pro religion in the public sphereBlood for the Blood God. 6237
Serious / Re: We might as well start the countdown...« on: April 09, 2015, 04:50:45 PM »Because you don't seem stupid enough to do that. Moving into the collapsing EU, in the capital of the EU empire is a bad move based just on economics. Factor in shitty weather, boring people, shitty food, and not much to do or see and I can't really fathom what attracts you.I think you're selling Germany a bit short. Berlin is a lovely city. Although I certainly couldn't live there, not even for a year. But I guess that's why I'm going to America for a year, instead of Germany. 6238
Serious / Re: We might as well start the countdown...« on: April 09, 2015, 04:49:28 PM »Not really. There are objective measures of "good" provided you actually have a rational basis for goodness, even if you still have leeway. Like, you might prefer the sun over snow, so you go to Australia over Canada.100% opinion.America is the best country in the world.I have to agree with you, really. What you don't do is go to Afghanistan. Unless your definition of "good" is a war-torn, misogynistic society with high infant mortality rate. But at that point, you're an idiot for defining "good" that way. 6239
