Serious / Cop shoots fleeing man 8 times, plants evidence
« on: April 08, 2015, 05:45:34 AM »
Quote
white South Carolina police officer was arrested and charged with murder Tuesday after video showed him fatally shooting a fleeing, unarmed black man in the back.

North Charleston Police Officer Michael T. Slager, 33, can be seen shooting 50-year-old Walter Scott after a confrontation on Saturday, according to The Post and Courier. Slager chases Scott and shoots at him eight times in the video recorded by a passerby and obtained by The New York Times.

Scott died there, though it wasn't clear if he died immediately.

The graphic video raises questions about Slager's original assertion that he used his gun because he felt endangered.

WARNING: GRAPHIC VIDEO

The confrontation started when Slager had reportedly pulled over Scott because of a broken taillight. It escalated into a foot chase as Scott allegedly fled because there were family court-issued warrants for his arrest. Slager pursued Scott into a grassy lot and claimed that he fired his Taser to subdue him.

Moments later, Slager reported on his radio, “Shots fired and the subject is down. He took my Taser,” according to the Times.

Earlier this week, an attorney for Slager said the cop felt threatened after Scott tried to overpower him and take his Taser. Today that attorney told The Post and Courier that he's "no longer involved" in the case.

But first images in the video are of Slager shooting at Scott as he runs away from him. It also appears that Slager drops the Taser near Scott after he was gunned down, according to The New York Times.

Police reports also say that responding officers performed CPR and delivered medical aid to Scott, but the video shows Scott face down in handcuffs for several minutes after the shooting. Another officer shows up and appears to give Scott aid, but never performs CPR.

It's a good thing in a way that the guy with the camera was able to catch this all on video, especially the cop planting evidence.  I'm glad he's facing justice, and like Scott's brother said in the CNN video, if we didn't have the video we would just have to take the cop's word for it.

Gaming / Dragon Age Inquisition's ending was...(spoilers, obviously)
« on: April 05, 2015, 03:32:35 AM »
...very fucking meh.

Like...it's not Mass Effect 3 bad, but it's still pretty fucking bad.  Aside from the obvious sequel bait with Solas--the most boring and wooden character I think I've ever seen in Dragon Age-- being built up as the "new bad guy", I was just left with a huge feeling of disappointment.

Dragon Age Inquisition really was a remarkable game, and infinitely better than Dragon Age 2 in every way possible, but holy crap did it just feel lacking many times.  After you've sealed the Breach, you deal with Corypheus, the villain from a Dragon Age 2 DLC, who was brought back from the dead after Hawke and party defeated him.  He then goes on to raze Haven to the ground and declared his intent for godhood.  That sounds good, yes?  You're facing an already powerful enemy who wishes to be a god, so there's definitely going to be some fun thrills, yes?

Fucking wrong.

Literally throughout the whole game, you're kicking Corypheus' ass.  Every single military action he takes, you go in and easily manhandle that walking corpse.  There felt like there wasn't any urgency or suspense whenever he was out to do something.  Literally every War Table meeting was, "Oh look, Corypheus is going after another artifact.  *sigh* Let's go people."  They treat Corypheus as a joke, which isn't a surprise seeing as The Inquisitor makes this ambitious Tevinter Magister his bitch throughout the events of the game.

The final battle felt underwhelming and felt more like you're swatting away an irritable fly rather than facing certain doom.  The resources you build up the whole game literally just stand idly by, none of your companions face the possibility of permanent death, and after you beat the final Boss of the game the Inquisitor just bitch slaps him into the Fade.

Compare this to Mass Effect 3.  The game features an apocalyptic End of the World scenario just like Dragon Age.  The main difference?  The villains are treated as actual threats and literally fuck with Shepard the whole damn time.  Shepard only really got to fight back successfully towards the end of the game when he and the Alliance Navy lay waste to the Cerberus headquarters.  Hell, even the fucking Mini-Boss Kai Leng was more of a threat than Corypheus.  He cut down Thane (depending on your choices, of course), managed to steal a Prothean AI that was crucial for Shepard to defeat the Reapers, and put up a tough fight before finally going down.  Meanwhile, the Illusive Man just sat in his chair pulling the strings.  But 90% of the time, his plans are successful and leaves Shepard and Co. with that sense of dread and near-hopelessness.

I honestly don't know how Bioware just got this so wrong.  They did it fantastically in Mass Effect 3 (initial ending aside), but in Dragon Age the End of the World just seems to be treated as seriously as a rash spawning on your left ass cheek.  None of your resources are in danger, your companions have bigger plot armor than Tyrion Lannister, and the supposed Big Bad is just a fucking joke.

All that aside, Dragon Age was a good game.  Obviously the main story was too short so they had to fluff it out to Hell and back to justify the $60 price, but it was still a fairly enjoyable ride.

I just hope Bioware knows what they're doing if they will continue the Dragon Age games.

So during the Super Bowl this year, NBC revealed a trailer for their new hit series called "The Slap" starring Peter Saarsgard and Zachary Quinto.

I laughed like an idiot because it seems ridiculous to have an entire show based around a guy slapping someone's kid.  "Seriously?" I asked myself.  However, I came across this little clip earlier and now have a clearer understanding of the message the show is trying to convey:

YouTube

You just saw Mr. Spock bitch slapping a kid for almost striking his own kid with a baseball bat and then kicking him.  Next, the parents start screaming at Quinto and act as if he beat their child into unconsciousness.  Hell they're kissing the child and crying like he was just shot or something.  Quinto backs up his Vulcan Pimp-Slap by declaring that the Hippy Trash parents can't properly raise a son, as evidenced in the video.  When poor, traumatized little Hugo was swinging his baseball bat around at the kids, the dad was just lazing around and saying, "Ok buddy you had your fun, stop trying to murder the other children pal."

When Hugo receives that mother of all slaps, the dad then freaks the fuck out and gets into a verbal dick-fighting contest with Quinto.  When Quinto's wife intervenes, Hugo's dad asks her if Quinto beats her as well.  The following episodes then show poor misunderstood Hugo's parents suing Quinto for delivering some good ol' American Middle Class justice upon some wild brat.

What I'm getting at is, who do you think is "in the right" here?  Personally, I would be just as pissed as Quinto was if some long-haired mongrel was throwing a hissy fit because he lost at baseball and started swinging a bat at my kid's head.  However, after Quinto took the bat away the situation was pretty much defused.  But he continued, trying to teach some sense to the kid before literally smacking it right into his pasty white face.  I probably would not have gone that far, even if some size 2 foot hit me in the shin.  Now if the kid was clawing at my face or continuing to be a wild savage, then yes I slap the little shit.  And I don't mean beat the crap out of him, it'd be a fucking love tap, even if he deserves more.  But again, when the bat is taken away I'd just shove him over to the parents and publicly shame them for raising a spoiled little shit.

When you look at it from the parents' point of view, the cousin of the guy who invited you to a BBQ just struck your kid.  You are pretty lax with this child and have a more Liberal method to child-raising, IE unplugging the XBox for 2 hours will teach him not to get into fights with other children at school.  You see this big (and sexy) hunk of beef in the form of Zachary Quinto use his mutton-sized hand to beat the shit out of your child, possibly giving him a concussion and scarring him for life.  Of course, you rationalize that this man is also a wife-beater and probably beats his own children.  And since he just destroyed your own kid's well-being and inner spirit, Zachary Quinto should be viewed as the Devil and file a very public lawsuit against this violent, belligerent drunk.  Your kid was just misunderstood, he still needs some growing up to do.  Hulking up to him with angry, neck-bearded violence will not teach him to learn better, it will only cause him to look at the world in mistrust, judging everyone around him as some potential threat.

So, like NBC says, "Whose side are you on"?  Would you stand with Quinto for publicly shaming bad parenting and teaching respect?  Would you stand with parents who only care for their child's well-being and are angry that a giant man just beat the holy living Hell out of him?

You can remain neutral on this position as well.  I consider myself semi-neutral, leaning more towards Quinto.  He definitely was out of hand, but it wasn't done without reason either.

*Sigh*  I'm most likely going to hate myself for watching this season since there's potential for major spoilers regarding Winds of Winter...but if Martin's going to take his sweet-ass-fucking-time with his books, then fuck it.

Trailer is still pretty good, and I kind of smiled at the Walk of Shame teaser.  What really depresses me though is how fucking white-washed Cersei is portrayed in this show.

Acting on a tip from a reader, the editors at Wonkette have uncovered papers filed with the California Attorney General’s Office by a Huntington Beach attorney, calling for a proposed ballot initiative called  “The Sodomite Suppression Act,” which he hopes will save the Golden State from “God’s just wrath.”

The filing, along with a check for $200, will allow attorney Matthew McLaughlin to begin the process of collecting the approximately 365,000 signatures needed to put the measure before California  voters on an upcoming ballot.

According to McLaughlin’s filing, “The abominable crime against nature known as buggery, called also sodomy, is a monstrous evil that Almighty God, giver of freedom and liberty, commands us to suppress on pain of our utter destruction even as he overthrew Sodom and Gomorrha.”

Saying that it is better if offenders (“sodomites”) be put to death rather than “all of us should be killed by God’s just wrath against us for tolerating wickedness in our midst,” the attorney proposes that “any person who willingly touches another person of the same gender for purposes of sexual gratification be put to death by bullets to the head or by any other convenient method.”

While a federal judge struck down California’s death penalty as unconstitutional in 2014, McLaughlin has that covered.

“This law is effective immediately and shall not be rendered ineffective or invalidated by any court, state or federal, until heard by a quorum of the Supreme Court of California consisting only of judges who are neither sodomites nor subject to disqualification hereunder.”

McLaughlin’s law would also call for anyone who “distributes, performs, or transmits any sodomistic propaganda” to be fined $1 million and imprisoned for up to ten years for occurrence,” after which they would be cast from the state. Additionally, the law  ban all sodomites, and those who promote sodomy, from holding political office.

As noted at Wonkette, McLaughlin previously filed papers in 2004, seeking a ballot measure to provide public school students with a Bible as a literary text which, thus far, has failed to appear on a ballot for the voters consideration.

So, yeah.  Let's execute all gay people, fine "propagandists" one million dollars, jail them for ten years, and exile them.

This Act will get laughed out of the state.  It would probably be more welcomed in the South or the Middle East.

After the catastrophic failure of a launch of Rome II: Total War, followed by many painful months of recovery, Attila: Total War is like a breath of fresh air.  I kept a cautious eye on this game when it first released, but my friends hyped it up to me so I caved.

This game is actually pretty damn epic, chronicling the Dark Ages, the fall of the Roman Empire, and the arrival of the Huns.  You can play as several different factions:  The Huns, the Sassanid Empire, the Vandals, the Saxons, the Visigoths, Ostrogoths, the Franks, the Alans, Western Roman Empire, and the Eastern Roman Empire/Byzantine.  With the Culture Pack, you can play as the Viking Danes, the Jutes, and the Geats.  Each faction comes with its own Cultural and Personal traits and boons.

What's really interesting is that this game isn't centered around building an empire, it's about destroying empires.  Interestingly, the Western Roman Empire--being the diseased cesspool that it is--is not about destroying our building, but is now all about survival as you try to keep the original Rome on stable ground amidst dirty politics, a skeleton of the famous Roman Legions, and being attacked by just damn near every Celtic tribe, Germanic tribe, and the invading Huns.

Another interesting thing is that if you are being invaded, you can use a Scorched Earth tactic, which razes your own buildings, crops and other resources into the bloody ground so that the invading forces can no longer live off of the land you built.  I think this is an amazing feature added into Total War, and I hope this mechanic stays.  It'd be very interesting in, say, a Medieval 3.

However, what pisses me off the most about this game is how epic it is, and then you realize it's pretty much just one giant expansion pack to Rome 2.  This game is what Rome 2 should have been, not that rushed-out piece of shit.  I'm glad Creative Assembly learned their lesson the last time and took their time with this game.  The Battle AI and UI have actually improved, and it feels like you're simulating a real battle rather than watching men have one giant mosh pit/gay orgy session.  There aren't any game-breaking bugs or glitches I found either, which is another plus.

I'd definitely recommend this game if you have not played it yet.

The Flood / Robert Baratheon vs Aragorn.
« on: March 01, 2015, 06:11:13 PM »
Sry Brutie, but this would be a much more interesting fight than Bland Snow vs Aragorn.

One on hand, we have King Bobby B. himself.  Shortly after Eddard Stark's father and brother were killed by the Mad King, Arys called for the heads of Bob Baratheon and The Ned.  In retaliation, their mentor Jon Arryn called forth the banners of The North, The Vale, The Riverlands and The Stormlands to unite and rebel against the Targaryan Dynasty.  Bobby B personally led many battles and won almost every one of them.  During the Battle of the Bells, he took on three armies in one day and won every single time.

Then during the Battle of the Trident, he took his mighty war-hammer and caved in the chest of Crown pussy-ass-pansy-bitch Prince Rhaegar, then marched to King's Landing to take down the King (though Tywin Lannister beat him to that and forsake the dragon forever.)  Shortly after being crowned King, the Iron Islands rebelled against the rest of the Seven Kingdoms.  Bobby B smashed the Ironmen to fucking bloody pieces before going back to his usual rounds of feasting, drinking and fucking every single woman in sight.

He was killed only because his squire (who was sleeping with Queen Cersei) increased the dosage of his wine during a hunting trip, causing him to get gored by a boar.

He also has a high charisma rating, able to turn enemies into friends in an hour and inspire thousands of soldiers to fight and die in his name.

Weapon:  Bobby B's Massive Fucking Warhammer.

In the other corner, we have King Aragorn Elessar.  A Numenorean Ranger raised by the High Elf Lord Elrond, Aragorn is considered the most BAMF swordsman in Middle Earth.  He has survived the War of the Ring and lived for 200+ years, with the later years being spent ruling the Unified Kingdom of Arnor and Gondor.  During his reign, he partook in multiple military campaigns, which successfully wiped away the Men of Harad from old Gondor strongholds, and conquered many Rhun territories.

He has inspired 6,000 soldiers to smash against an army ten times their number, even if Frodo might have failed to destroy the Ring, in an attempt to turn Sauron's attention to him and make it look like he possessed the Ring.

Weapon:  Elven-forged Narsil.

FIGHT!

So I was just merrily browsing the Steam front page when I came across an advertisement for an Early Access of Medieval Engineers, which is made by the same people who brought us Space Engineers.  I noticed, however, that Space Engineers itself was also still an Early Access.

I grew very annoyed because this reminded me of a controversy on AngryJoe's Top 10 Gaming Controversies of 2014 video.  In it, he stated Early Access games are becoming much more frequent and are mostly just unfinished games being put out for a quick buck.  I would use DayZ as an example, but I have not played the "actual" DayZ and only use the DayZ Commander mod.  However, from what I hear the game is still very broken and even if they are adding some improvements, it's trudging along at a painfully slow snails pace.

Then we have other games, like Towns, that are released but nothing comes out of it and the developers abandon the project while leaving an "Oh well" note to the people who chose to invest in the game.  I can understand if the game just wasn't working properly, but to just simply be bored and leave a game broken and unfinished when you've made your payday just seems bad.

With Medieval Engineers, it kind of gives me the vibe that Space Engineers is just going to be left collecting dust as the developers have made their quick buck with that game.  Now Medieval Engineers apparently improves on some block placements and looks nice, but lacks a ton of content to make it worth the $20 right now.  Also, I fumed when I scrolled down the page and found this:

That's just fucking insulting.  That is Watch_Dogs and Assassin's Creed Unity levels of bad in my opinion.  "Let's prop up a 'Deluxe Edition' of an incomplete game because LOL!"
