So people in America tend to clap at kid's movies more often than respectable films? It makes more sense that way I guess, kids get excited with all the action and loud music, they probably just need to vent their energy.
Not kids movies, just ones that are either really stupidly popular, or have an emotional reation like Paul Walker dying.

So, in short, would it be fair to say that Americans clap during a movie but don't clap during a film?
For the general audience, they prefer movies over "films" (if by film, you mean something more artistic and sophisticated in material).
