This place is too negative...:(

No. Not helping people is negative.
Sharing each other's burdens? That is greater than any joke.

Trappy doesn't like the word broken. And looking at it, I guess I don't either. Broken implies that something is wrong with the source material. That it was wrong from the start. I like work in progress. It's like buying a new car. As a whole, the car is fine. But there's little problems here and there. And they need to be fine tuned. They need some care, steady hands, and good work put into them to fix those little problems. The people here aren't broken. They're works in progress. And if you know anything about a work in progress, it takes time until the real, spectacular finished product shows itself.

I like to say "we are all works-in-progress" myself.
But there seems to be some here with lasting damage. Are they forever broken?
No. I'll see to it myself if I must, that they are put back together.

Welcome back Quiet, so glad to see you :D

Especially now. All this hurt, all this pain......

We need to be here for each other. Call it a "hug box" if you want, but I'm not going to let a petty joke stop me.

If you need anything. If you need to talk, vent, whatever. Message me. Give me all you've got. No man is an island, don't fight alone.

There are others here as well, who want to have your back. Fight with you. Let them. Give us part of that burden.

But what I really don't understand about the story is why a goat is sacrificed to God in the end. What is the point of that when the sacrifice was just a test of faith and not to be performed? And why would God want a goat sacrificed in his name anyway?
In the Old Testament, Israel would offer a "sin offering" to God of their best goat, or lamb. That would cover them for the year.
Jesus is called the "Lamb of God" because He took all sin upon Himself.

If you are asked by god to do something unethical, say kill a child, would you do it?

You must choose either ethics or faith in this scenario, you cannot say that god would never tell someone to do it, because he actually has made someone make that decision in the bible (there's a nice quick summary of the story
So would you obey god and kill the child, or would you not?

The story of Isaac and Abraham, ah yes. Nobody was killed though, that's the good news.
Why did God ask Abraham to offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice? To test his faith.

Did God actually want Abraham to kill his son? No. Because you see what happens later in the story: an Angel stops Abraham from killing Isaac, and instead finds a ram stuck in a bush. That is offered in Isaac's place.

So no, I wouldn't kill anybody. And God wouldn't ask us to do that and follow through with it.
Did God change His mind? Nope. From our point of view He did, but that's because we didn't see the whole plan. God was simply testing Abraham's faithfulness, since Abraham said he would follow God.

I'm not with him :/
Genuine question: how come we don't see/hear about more moderate Christians calling out people like this? I'd be much more supportive of the Christian community if they wanted to oust people like this.
It's not like there's some sort of central Christian authority that can make this guy step down.
True, but there should be pressure from outsiders to cut this shit out.

There might be. But they can ignore it all they want.
And we'd have no way of knowing
