Did you do any editing? Good photos, but you should try being a little more adventurous with your framing and subjects.

how much do you actually know about the LCS infrastructure? league of legends pros have the best jobs in all of pro gaming. it's made more millionaires than any other professional video game. league isnt casual at all. its imbalanced as hell and terrible, but it is an EXTREMELY competitive game at the end of the day. to be the best, you have to play 12+ hours a day. thats not casual. thats horrifying.
Like I said, the competitive scene is artificial. League's esport scene didn't grow because of the game itself. It didn't come into fruition because of how good the game is, or because of its intrinsic competitive qualities. It became this way because the developers forced millions of dollars into putting their game out there, hosting their own tournaments and growing its own scene by paying for it. If you look at the competitive giants like Melee, CS, Quake, Starcraft, Street Fighter and so on, you'll see that they became what they are not because of their own developers forcing it, but because the gamers themselves realized they had found amazing and competitive games that could be played for dozens of years, have a near infinite skill ceiling and would drive players because of the game's own and intrinsic values that make it stand out from the rest.

This, however, is hardly the case for League. How much money the pros make really has got nothing to do with how good or competitive a game is. If you throw enough money at it, put the game out there with massive promotions and advertising, and bait people in with flash, flair and money, you can make any game grow big, completely disregarding how competitive it might be.

And that is why I don't like what League is doing to the esports scene. While I love the fact that it's bringing more attention to competitive gaming, it is also ultimately detrimental for the esports scene. Because the biggest competitive games might no longer be the games that deserve it. Instead of having a thriving esports scene based around the games that are intrinsically the best, most skillful, high tier and insanely competitive, it's probably going to become a scene that will be based around the games that the developers and sponsors pour the most money in. Which I would find to be a real shame, tbh.

This caught my interest until I realized it was entirely about a casul pleb tier game.
> casual

huh

league might be the most time-intensive video game that exists...
You can't honestly compare a 5 year old game like LoL to the competitive classics that haven't been mastered after 20 years of esports.

League is pretty casual. Its competitive scene is artificial and likely detrimental to esports as a whole. While the game takes a lot of practice and the sheer number of champions / builds makes it pretty time-intensive to learn, it really is a low tier competitive game.

Not saying it's a bad game at all, but I can't support what it's doing to esports as a whole and, having played it quite a bit myself, I can safely say that it's far from being on the same level as other competitive games.

unfortunately, there's no way to lock the interest groups/wealthy out of the equation without locking the grassroots fundraising out, too.
You limit the amount of money both legal and natural persons can donate?
wouldnt stop the bigwigs from funneling their huge funds in somehow
Works pretty well for almost all other developed countries.

I can never get over how populist US politics are.
populism is an inherent and deeply involved facet of the democratic system; every democratic government around the world is populist.

did you mean bipartisan?
I didn't mean bipartisan, no. I'm talking about populist in the sense of appealing to the petty emotions and fears of the general public, exploiting topics by portraying them in an extremely biased and overly simplified kind of way.

I also never said the US political system was the only populist one. All democratic systems are that way to a certain degree. The US, however, is just so much far out there than any other country I know.

The Flood / Re: What do you guys think of Netflix?
« on: March 15, 2015, 07:32:08 AM »
For the people blaming their respective governments for Netflix being shit in your area: unless something is intentionally censored in your country, your government isn't to blame for it. It's either Netflix not making something available due to popularity, or Netflix not getting the rights to a certain area. The people who make a show sell the rights on a territorial basis. If something is not available where you live, it's probably because Netflix hasn't obtained those rights (yet).

Two part backstabbing is bad.
Dex-using poisestabber detected.

Seriously, this is one of the best things that happened to the series. Backstabs in Dark and Demon's Souls were ridiculous.
Wut? It is an extremely flawed mechanic offering nothing good to the series. It doesn't do anything to prevent lagstabs and more often than not has you initiate the first step of the mechanic while the other person is no longer close enough due to latency. I've had it happen several times where I got behind someone, went for the backstab, missed out on it because of latency and then was backstabbed myself when my character was left immobile for a second while completing the first part of the backstab animation on thin air.

That isn't to say that backstabs in DkS and DeS were perfect, but the two step animation really serves no point, imo. At least in DkS and DeS, if you got a backstab due to latency or one that you shouldn't have gotten, it often resulted in a void hit. The animation would take place, but there would be no damage dealt. A far better solution than leaving someone immobile because of a poor mechanic.

Because the legal hooplah after this is even more crazy.
Now imagine the "legal hooplah" with you having used a type of ammunition that intentionally turns into what's basically shrapnel, specifically designed to do as much damage as possible and intentionally rip the guys insides to shreds, especially knowing that "normal" rounds have been shown to be very effective at neutralizing threats in the first place.

The Flood / Re: If you get shot by this bullet... You're done.

Surprised that's legal
Why?

It's supposed to minimize any chance of the bullet going through the target and hitting an innocent person. It dumps all of its energy into the target. Great for home defense.
Because it's pretty disproportional, no?
What?
This type of ammunition.
What about it?
Using this type of ammunition seems to cause pretty disproportional damage. You get assaulted by someone and shoot him in the chest out of self defence? That stops the man. Ripping every single one of his organs to shreds or destroying any limb the bullet lands in seems a little unnecessary when a "normal" round serves as great self defence in its own.

I'm probably just misusing the kick then. I always found it pretty useless, what's the best time to use it? the absolute, undebatably worst part (imo)of dark souls 2 is the enemies.  It's all Knights as aposed to giant armored pigs, huge Minotaurs, demonic centipedes, spider woman hybrids, whatever the fuck the gaping dragon is. I hope Bloodborne and the inevitable dark souls 3 returns to that diversity
Kicking in DS1 is one of those mechanics that make the PVP that much more competitive at a high level. It's true that it isn't the most useful of abilities, but it definitely has its uses. While it doesn't deal any damage, it hits the opponent's stamina pretty bad. Use it correctly, and it can result in what's effectively DS2's guard break without the animation. Best times to use it is on a turtling opponent or one that you just parried or came out of a roll. It's also pretty fast, so if someone with low poise is swinging a heavy weapon around, kicking them as they attack will usually result in stunning them briefly. Monitoring someone's movement and attacks can help determine when they are running low on stamina, at which point a well placed kick can deplete it, leaving them unable to block or roll any further. I admit that it isn't all that amazing, but it definitely has its uses.

I agree with you on the diversity, DS2 was definitely lacking in that area. My main complaint is still the combat in general though. It's good, but going back to DS1 and feeling how snappy and quick it used to be feels like a breath of fresh air.

I forgot how much more wonky the combat is in dark souls 1 is than dark souls 2
How much more superior* you mean.
debatable. Each one does things well and poorly
I'd say that DS2 added some decent mechanics, but it doesn't do anything well or better, imo.
I enjoyed the duel weilding power stance and the replacement of the stupid kick in 2, and it's definitely smoother but that just comes from it being years newer

1's combat has way more weight to it though and the enemy swords don't have like magical homing devices that turn them mid lunge to hit you and poise and scaling actually works

Overall ds1 does have better combat but I think ds2 doesn't deserve ALL the hate it gets, just most of it
I agree that it doesn't deserve all of the hate, but still.

Power stance is good.
Removal of kicking is awful.
Guard break is good.
Two part backstabbing is bad.
Soul memory is awful.

The "smoother" part is beyond awful. DS2 PVP feels like it's half slow-mo, moving through a thick layer of butter. It might be smooth, but it's slower, less responsive and less skillful. It's still a good game, but really nothing compared to the snappy, fast and accurate DS1.

Invaded someone, get greeted by a gank squad. I back away and black crystal outta there and one of them pms me saying sorry

lol
When you get familiar enough with the game's PVP, fighting multiple people at once actually becomes more of a goal than simple 1v1's.
