They're trying to get all of the idiots that are still using Windows 7 to upgrade hence why they didn't name it Windows 9 because it makes you feel much more outdated when you're 3 generations behind rather than two.People are still using Win7 because it's not shit. Why go from something good(Win7) to something shit(Win8)? >install ClassicShell and disable all apps, shitty defaults and metro/tile UI >looks, feels and functions pretty much exactly like Win 7, with all of Win 8's benefits and upsides >best of both worlds 8673

Gaming / Re: Vice eSports Documentary« on: March 18, 2015, 05:22:46 PM »The developers forcing the game's artificial competitive scene doesn't necessarily make it casual. League not being an incredibly competitive game with a skill ceiling that is only high because the amount of champions, builds and combinations, does. I edited out my previous post because I really don't feel like getting into this discussion again, as I've had it several times already. Some very common "complaints" that detract from how high League's skill ceiling is are things such as the use of pretty much a single map that is also not that complicated, the general lack of precision and twitch aiming, the basic movement, extended periods of times where hardly anything happens, lack of "glitches" that make things more competitive and fast, the long respawn times, the way how games are often decided rather early on, the generally pretty slow pace, the lack of advanced strategy (other than builds and countering your opponents choices), the elements of randomness (critical strikes and such)...Well, to each his own.im with azu on this one. I do see what you're saying about it being artificially competitive, the game was designed and marketed to be competitive but I don't see why that's a problem or how that makes it casual, especially with the huge skill gap it has... Either way, League is not a casual game. I just don't think it's quite up there with some of the other games and am not particularly fond of the generally uninformed people who treat it as the single most competitive, skillful and best game ever, simply because they don't know much about esports as a whole. But the worst thing is what League is doing to competitive gaming, as it genuinely makes me fear of what might happen next. But it's late and I really can't let myself get into this again. You are obviously free to disagree with any of the points I made or think differently of this. But from my personal experience, League just isn't that impressive of an esports game. 8679

Serious / Re: Your friendly reminder that these people have ignited a culture war« on: March 18, 2015, 12:19:02 PM »Often times it's usually because SJW's never have anything particularly intellectual or valuable to say. Not to mention their haphazard attempts to infiltrate the gaming industry. They're basically the leftist equivalent of the WBC, constantly looking to trash and intrude on other people's private lives.Which is exactly why they are to be treated as the WBC should. Not with emotional counters and further feuds, feeding their desire for attention, but with a calm demeanor, facts and reason. Quote What facts did I twist exactly?I wasn't specifically refering to this thread. What came to mind was the thread in Serious on an 8 year old kid being given hormone blockers. If I remember correctly, you were very eager to skew the facts to fit your argument better. Quote There's nothing wrong with using flagrant, fruity or colourful language to denounce and humiliate the opposition as long as you have facts to back it up. Professional debaters do it all the time. There is a fine line between colorful language and populist appeals to emotion. And as someone who's a few months away from obtaining a Master's in law and has plead trials for larger crowds, guided and instructed by amazing orators and attorneys, I can guarantee you that the best professional debaters know where to draw it. I'm not saying I don't agree with some of the things you say, by the way. I'm just pointing out that some of your posts scream bias, propaganda and appeals to emotion, making them of the same level as your typical extreme left (or right) wing blogs / groups / tumblrs that thrive on emotion and bias to make a point. And all this does is hurt your own argument. You should not just be the bigger man in terms of facts and arguments, but also in terms of demeanor and attitude. Petty appeals to emotion, cherry picked information and biased language should be beneat you. This is all just a friendly piece of advice. 8683

Serious / Re: Your friendly reminder that these people have ignited a culture war« on: March 18, 2015, 11:57:22 AM »It's not just that though, it's your general attitude in every thread about SJW's. You often seem blinded by your anti-SJW sentiments, which can cloud your judgment. And that kinda shows, sometimes.Your own bias is hurting your argument. You have a very bad habit of letting your hatred (yes, hatred) for SJW's cloud your judgement.Yeah it's probably more nuanced than I made out in the OP, but I'm not entirely incorrect. "Having run their rhetoric into the ground", "venomous gaze", "parasites"... I'd suggest reading some of your own posts from a more objective point of view. It might help you realize how biased and propaganda-like they sometimes sound. Some of your posts read no different from the extremely one-sided rhetoric and propaganda used by the SJW tumblerites you detest so much, twisting facts and using certain words to appeal to emotion in an attempt to further your argument. Rule number one to winning a "war" like this: never, ever, stoop to their level. If you have logic, facts and reason on your side, you should stick to that and get to the truth that way. Appeals to emotion, twisting facts, very loaded and biased use of words, antagonizing the other side and portraying them as the wicked and stupid enemy... That should all be beneath you. 8685

Serious / Re: Cultural Appropriation« on: March 18, 2015, 04:51:19 AM »
Well, none of the examples in the video upset me. I can safely say that seeing black people having a "white party" where they drink the more expensive liquors and have sandwiches with mayo while discussing politics does not make me feel uncomfortable or offended. The one thing I am feeling now is a slight sense of disgust that the people in this video seem to think that segregating these kinds of behavior and subject them to different treatments because of your race is commendable and something to strive for.
While I understand that perpetuating certain racial stereotypes can be insensitive, stupid and offensive, I feel like this anti-appropriation campaign is going too far and might even have adverse effects. While mockery and intentionally offensive behavior by taking over a culture isn't acceptable, I can't help but think that this "mingling" of cultures only helps to get over the racial stereotypes we still have and could lead to a more unified community with a larger, shared culture. "Black people should only act black and white people should only act white, crossing this barrier is a shameful display of cultural appropriation" only seems to perpetuate the differences and barriers between groups, hereby alienating them from each other and putting races up against one another instead of simply being different and unique people part of the same community. 8692
