The fact that this lawsuit is even being entertained is ridiculous.
How so?

Serious / Gun manufacturer liability
« on: April 21, 2016, 08:39:29 AM »
CNN reports that as of yesterday, a US court has given the green light and set a date for the lawsuit by family members of the Sandy Hook mass shooting victims to sue the manufacturer of the firearms used in the shooting.

Quote
A potentially precedent-setting lawsuit against gun manufacturers on behalf of families of those killed in the Sandy Hook school shooting will move forward to the discovery process, a Connecticut judge ruled Tuesday.

The decision, which also sets an April 3, 2018, trial date, paves the way for depositions and potential access to internal documents from Bushmaster Firearms and Remington. It would be the first lawsuit of its kind to reach the discovery phase after the enactment of the 2005 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, or PLCAA, according to experts

"This is precedent setting in the sense that, after PLCAA, this is the first case against a firearms manufacturer under a negligence theory that looks like it might make it to trial," said Georgia State University law professor Timothy Lytton, who studies gun industry litigation.

The companies contend they are shielded under the federal legislation, which absolves gun manufacturers from liability if a firearm is "misused" in a crime to kill people.
The gun makers have until Friday to file a motion to strike the case, according to court documents.
"This is unusual," Lytton said of the decision's timing. "Courts normally decide first whether or not they think the legal theories are valid before they allow the parties — the plaintiff in particular — to run around and dig up evidence that might support their case in a trial."
He added, "In this instance what the judge is saying is, 'Go ahead, collect your facts before it's decided whether there are grounds to dismiss.'"
Judge Barbara Bellis last week denied Bushmaster Firearms and Remington's motion to dismiss the case but said the filing of a motion to strike the case would be more appropriate.
A source close to the defense downplayed Tuesday's developments as procedural.
"The reality is, every case gets a scheduling order with a trial date. There's nothing unique about what happened today," said the source, adding that defendants have filed a motion seeking to stay discovery.
Targeting young men
The families of the Sandy Hook victims argue that while the guns may not in themselves be unsafe, Bushmaster and Remington's marketing strategy deliberately targets young men, some of whom are inclined to violence.
The families are demanding access to the companies' marketing documents.
The families also allege that weapons originally designed for the military have become common in the civilian marketplace.

The case has the potential to make history if it goes to trial. The 2005 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act grants gun manufacturers immunity from any lawsuit related to injuries that result from criminal misuse of their product.
On December 14, 2012, Adam Lanza fatally shot his mother and then drove to the school, where he used a Bushmaster AR-15 to shoot to death 20 children and six adults. Lanza, 20, killed himself as police approached. In all, he unloaded 154 rounds from the semiautomatic rifle.

How can I trust that this policy wont change? The makers of this app are social media butterflies that only responded this way because they thought the criticism was "Ironic"
Because countries with decent data protection laws would tear them a new asshole within days. The US is lacking in that department, but this being a Canadian app having released documents specifically to comply with European legislation, I don't see them taking that risk.

Actually....

The company noted, too, that “no one can add you to the app” — making it sound as if being reviewed on Peeple is an opt-in experience.

That’s not entirely true, however.

Peeple’s own website says you can still write “recommendations” (i.e. reviews, but not necessarily positive ones) for anyone who’s not on the app, then choose to invite that person to join Peeple.

In other words, even if you’re not participating, someone could write your review. Sure, that review might not be public, but it exists in a digital format on the company’s servers.

But no one is forcing you to participate in it
The keywords would be "that review might not be public, but it exists in a digital format on the company’s servers." Their personal data policy seems pretty solid. So no, I don't see how anyone is forced to participate at all.

I'm not really seeing the issue here. Do I think it's a disgusting idea? Sure, more or less at least. But no one is forcing you to participate in it, and I imagine that the majority of people actually getting involved in this already aren't worth much of my time anyways.

Purging voters? How?

Connections that can win her the election by purging voters likely to vote for sanders and restricting polling stations in their areas as well.

It happened in Arizona and it's happening again in New York.

Changing their registrations from Democrat to independent so they can't vote in closed primaries. 54,000 people in Brooklyn had this happen to them and that area was projected to be strong for Bernie.
...how can this even happen? This is some third world "democracy" shit from unstable countries in the Middle East (or Russia) where ballots conveniently forget to mention the name of the opposing candidate or someone ends up with 140% of all votes. I've never cared that much about the US elections because of how much of a populist joke they all are, but how in the world does stuff like this even fly?

Changing their registrations from Democrat to independent so they can't vote in closed primaries.
Uhhh.

that's, like... not okay

how are they getting away with this

Private election.

In the general election it wouldn't matter what party (or lack of a party) you're registered as, but if the party is choosing to have a closed primary they'll only let people who are registered as part of their party vote in it.
Not that I'm one to talk, but that is one seriously fucked up political system.

Don't you mean IVs? Because EV training is super easy.

Even so, IV breeding gets easier with every generation. All you need is a flawless ditto to start out with, and those are pretty easy to get. I myself have a stockpile that I pokegenned so that I can give them out to people that need them. Once you have a proper Ditto, the grind is significantly more tolerable. Hell, today I managed to breed a 6IV Swablu from scratch in about 45 minutes.

If you don't like grinding, you could always use pokegen or PKHEX to get all your mons too...
Think you can hook me up with one? My girlfriend's been getting into pokemon more and would love one. She's been trying with a 4 IV one she caught herself, but it hasn't been going too well.
Sure.

One more thing though, I know they're hacked but do the dittos have the USA as their "game of origin"? Because if they are, that would be even better and I could use one of them for the Masuda shiny method with my European game.

But I do have my reasons for sticking with the spear.
Of course, and you're entirely free to stick with it to the end of the game. As I've said before, one of the great strengths of Dark Souls is that with enough skill and perseverance, pretty much every single weapon and playstyle can be used effectively and can be a valid way to play and beat the game. I'm just trying to have you not stop experimenting with different things. You're at a stage of the game where none of your weapons are upgraded yet, so it's very easy to switch between them without losing out on weapons that are at a higher level already. You can use the spear all you want and it'll work for you just the same. I'm just pointing out that the game will get more difficult. You'll come to face a larger variety of enemies that will hit harder, move faster, drain your endurance more easily and use a much wider array of attacks and moves, which is something that can really take you by surprise if you've never really learned to deal with things in different ways. Say you run into a massive armored knight with a massive amount of piercing resistance who swings a club around that hits so hard that it'll just knock your shield aside as if it wasn't even there. Turtling behind a shield while stabbing a spear at him will do nothing to him and will get you killed over and over. It's not impossible, but my point is just that it's not a bad idea to keep 'adapting' and not lock yourself into a single playstyle too early on. It's entirely your call and you should go with what you're feeling comfortable with, but don't be afraid to try different things and change it up a little if you hit rougher patches. Lure a single enemy out with an arrow, draw one to a better area to fight him in, see if you can knock him off the map or plunge attack on him, check if other weapon types may be more effective at stunning him or dealing better damage... You did a great job (I wasn't convinced you'd be able to kill him any time soon with that kind of damage), but just don't be afraid to take risks. A death is just a death, and souls and humanity can always be earned again.

Quote
Unless you're telling me that being an opportunist is literally the name of the game--in which case... All right.
Nah, I'm just saying that you're playing one of the most notoriously hard AAA titles released in the last 5 years. You make a good point by saying that it's a good way to learn things, which is definitely true, but I'm just saying that when the opportunity arises there's no shame in taking it. There will be plenty of enemies and bosses for you to fight that can't be cheesed (easily), so I'd just enjoy it if you can. Besides, my previous post may have been a little misleading. It really isn't all that easy to get the knight to fall of the cliff or to hit him with a good plunge. It'll take some good timing and dodging, which is skillful all on its own.

Quote
I dunno. I'm sure it's not a huge deal, is it?
Nah, not particularly. There's just a few weapons that are notoriously powerful in DS1. The Black Knight weapons have relatively low stat requirements and deal a ton of damage, while not being all that hard to upgrade. They only go to +5 rather than +15, meaning that you'll get more damage output faster and that you don't need to collect special embers after a certain part of the game. Basically, the black knight halberd and the black knight ultra greatsword are the two weapons speedrunners use to beat the game in less than an hour. They're very powerful, but I don't see new players being able to take the full advantage of them anyways. I've never been much of a fan of them and prefered other weapons that allowed me more customisation and that I'd have "grow with me" throughout the entire game, but to each his own.

Quote
Normally, what happens is that I fuck up the timing, and I get punished for it.
Yeah, it's not that easy to get down. But you should look at it as some more advanced Smash Bros technique. Sure, it's hard at first. It'll get you killed trying it out and it'll take time and practice to get it down. But once you do, it opens up so much more possibilities and ways to outmanouver and beat your opponent that it's well worth it in the end. Besides, you can always practice on easier enemies. There's plenty of low level enemies in the Undead Burg that are close to bonfires and don't deal much damage. Just try to dodge their attacks for a while and heal up at the bonfire if you're close to dying. You'll probably get it down real quick like that.

SL1 no pyromancy all bosses is the only acceptable answer for DS1.

You are out of your mind.
I've done it. There's even people who speedrun it. The only really difficult parts are Kalameet, Manus and Four Kings. Kalameet and Manus because they resist anything you can throw at them and Four Kings because your DPS is so low that you'll end up fighting 3-4 simultaneously.

I'm not saying it's impossible, it's just insane.
It's hard enough sl1 pyro pain training bosses.
Gotta separate the men from the boys somehow.

And here I thought I was manly for doing sl1 at all. Back to the drawing board I guess.
You'll be fine. There's really only 3 bosses that pose a challenge. You're forced to rely on elemental damage because scaling weapons don't do anything with your low stats, and both Kalameet and Manus have insane elemental defense and a ton of HP. The only way to do any damage at all really is by using the red tearstone ring, which makes it so that even the slightest bump or shock wave will kill you, all while the fight is a 15 minute long marathon. 4 Kings are a pain too, but in a different way. If you managed to deal with the purple homing attack and keep them separated, you should be fine.

So yeah. FaP ring and RTSR, grass crest on your back, green blossom at hand, 2 handing Blacksmith's hammer, battle axe, reinforced club and cursed blade at max chaos/lightning/fire. You should be fine in the end.
