Killing the Ayatollahs won't fix the IRGC problem. They have invested a lot in various sectors of the state integrating Iran into the world economy would actually have a positive effect by undermining their control, lots of Iran analysts I follow expect an IRGC take over should the Mullahs fall but you never know the Green movement of a couple years back isn't completely dead they'd most likely face lots of public resistance, something of which Iranians are masters of.

Not true. Who helped the people during 79? The Shahs Imperial Army and Savak couldn't do anything because it was a genuine popular movement (later hijacked) IRGC wont be able to stop something similar either.

The Shah reversed Mossadegh's nationalisation policy after taking power giving a coalition of foreign companies quite a lot more control over Iran's oil company so I still fail to see how the CIA would back an anti-Shah coup.
