There hasn't been a level of violence to justify buying body armor. Body armor won't stop a bomb either. Not to mention, bomb scares are pretty frequent, should everybody just wear juggernaut suits to be safe?
And this makes it justifiable to restrict access for those who would like it?
By all means buy a shed and fill it to the brim with body armor.
Just don't act like Ferguson is so bad that you need body armor just to try and survive.
I wouldn't say you ever need it.
But there are certain settings where it is very nice to have.
If you don't need something, there's no point in having it. Same with a gun. If you don't need a gun, don't get one. They're not toys.
That's my view.
Even if it could potentially save your life?
Then you'd need it and you would've bought body armor and/or a gun.
If you live in a super safe neighborhood I really don't see the point and you're more likely to hurt or kill a family member than protecting your home. A gun is a very serious weapon. You can take a life in a second.
I'm referring to body armor saving your life. I would say that a gun is a better deterrent to violence than a plate carrier, but if the deterrent fails, you would want that plate between you and the bad guy. If you never, ever go into dangerous areas, I would agree that arms are not a necessity, but I wouldn't say you're any more likely to harm anyone if you understand your weapons and take care with them. There is no reason a gun should be going off in a residential area anyway. You can't just go shooting in your back yard unless you live out in the boonies, in which case you're not much of a danger to anyone.

In the winter of 1916-1917, the Eastern Front stretched for more than a thousand miles from the Baltic Sea in the north to the Black Sea in the south. During that winter, half-starved Russian wolves converged on both the German and Russian lines in the northern part of the front in the Vilnius-Minsk region. As their desperation increased beyond their fear of humans, the wolves started attacking individuals but were soon attacking groups of soldiers so viciously and often that something had to be done. The soldiers tried poisoning them, shooting them with their rifles and machine guns and even using grenades against them, but the large and powerful Russian wolves were so hungry, fresh wolf packs simply replaced those that were killed. The situation grew so severe that the Russian and German soldiers convinced their commanders to allow temporary truce negotiations to enable them to deal with the animals more effectively. Once the terms were worked out, the fighting stopped and the two sides discussed how to resolve the situation. Finally, a coordinated effort was made and gradually the packs were rounded up. Hundreds of wolves were killed during the process while the rest scattered, leaving the area once and for all to the humans. The problem was solved, the truce was called off and the soldiers got back to killing each other properly. http://unnamedharald.hubpages.com/hub/WW1-Russian-Wolves-Business-As-Usual-and-War-Horses

If a mod is reading this, if Kinder and Challenger continue to talk about Ferguson, I'd like the thread locked.
This thread is about a government attempt to restrict citizens' access to body armor, not police violence or the protestors.
While the State's use of violence against the populace is very relevant to its attempts to render that population defenseless, we've gone over Ferguson enough. It can do no good for this thread.

It's daft to buy body armour unless you fully expect to be shot at in the street.
That's probably the most likely place for a person to be shot at.

"pedophilia is bad"
No it isn't.

this thread will end well.
I pick the one issue short of "pedophilia is bad" where we have a chance at a general agreement, and it goes to shit because of fucking Ferguson. well maybe not yet, we'll see

Who the fuck is buying body armour anyway?
If I were in somewhere like Ferguson, I'd honestly want one too.
There have been barely any deaths in Ferguson, and the grand majority are police officers killing civilians.
I know you guys start shaking in your boots and wetting yourselves when you see black folks get angry and protest, but calm the fuck down.
Are you seriously telling me you would not want body armor if you were in an area with active rioting? Fuck that shit, I'm not taking risks, especially when a cop could fuck up and shoot into a crowd. It's not the black people I'm scared of.

Who the fuck is buying body armour anyway?
A lot of prepper types, former cops and military who like to wear it under a rig, lawyers and such who have made enemies. If I were in somewhere like Ferguson, I'd honestly want one too. It's not a matter of who is buying it though. Why shouldn't they be able to buy it in the first place? These are made to save lives. There is absolutely no reasonable excuse for a restriction on this.

Expensive as fuck, but you're a richfag so that shouldn't be an issue.
The main issue is that you have to jump through a ton of bullshit legal hoops to get one.

The native civilization got BTFO.
I know it's the new trend to whine about da ebul colonialz or whatever, but seriously, they lost.
Welcome to the real world, baby. If your culture can't deal with belligerents, you have nobody to blame but yourself. Adapt or die.

Also, English people pronounce it "Camoo"? Wut.
Is "camoo" incorrect? What is the proper pronunciation? I'll defer to you since French is pretty common in Belgium.

For those of you who either lack the time, energy, or reading comprehension to actually read Camus, this philosophy teacher has some videos explaining my favorite philosopher's work in a more understandable way. Here are some longer videos for those of you with a greater attention span.

I'm in the early stages of writing a script for my theater class that my teacher will hopefully allow me to direct.
It's a story about rape and genocide in Bosnia.
forget the screenplay and write an erotica instead.
but then I won't be able to perform it at school :^(

Also, we have an Aragorn reference.
LOL FUCKING DROPPED
Fuck Jackson and fuck these movies.
ah. It's just a name drop. Thranduil tells Legolas to find Strider at the end
Legolas shouldn't even be there
It would be strange for Thranduil to be there and not Legolas
Have you read the book?
No shit I know Legolas isn't in it I'm saying why should his father be in the movie and not Legolas. He is the Prince of Mirkwood after all. And he was there during the events of The Hobbit
Because he does nothing of note and is not even referenced in the book. He wasn't even that important in the LOTR books, he was basically Mr Exposition. They just played up his cool factor in the movies to make him into some kind of comic book hero badass. The only reason he's in the Hobbit movies is because he's marketable and tumblr-tier fangirls love him. Jackson is a fucking scumbag who is shitting on material far above him.
