Someone who actively wants to end their own life is clearly suffering from mental disease. All intelligent lifeforms have a deep, instinctual need to preserve their own life, that's just how it is. Anybody who is actually able to overcome that instinct has some fucked up shit going on with their brain and needs treatment.
Do I think everyone who commits suicide is suffering from disease? No. There are certain situations in which suicide can be a reasonable, if unfortunate, decision. Say somebody is trapped in a burning building with absolutely no way out, and a handgun at his side. Death is inevitable, and the obvious choice is the faster, less painful death.
Less cut and dry would be someone whose spouse has cheated on them. Maybe they've been unknowingly raising another man's kids as their own. You know, world-shattering shit. Rather than face the humiliation, he decides to off himself. Fine, it's his life, fuck you it's none of your business.
