Serious / Re: America's unique problem with gun violence
« on: October 04, 2015, 11:40:01 PM »
Cases such as Mexico obviously have bigger problems than simply the wrong people owning guns, so that comparison doesn't really work.
CONGRATU FUCKING LATIONS FOR REALIZING THIS

WHY DON'T YOU ALSO REALIZE THAT THE UNITED FUCKING STATES ALSO HAS BIGGER PROBLEMS THAN THE WRONG PEOPLE OWNING GUNS?

Quote
In every Western country comparable to the US
There is no western country comparable to the US.
Quote
gun control has been overwhelmingly successful.
Not really. Violent areas are still violent. Wealthy, homogenous regions still don't see much violence.
Quote
Doesn't take an idiot to figure that banning the cause of the problem will prevent said problem.
Yeah, you can't exactly ban mental illness, poverty, or shitty publicly-funded education systems. Well, I mean, you could do away with the latter, but nobody is willing to.

Quote
Switzerland is a unique case because 'well-regulated militia' is a requirement, as opposed to a friendly, optional suggestion.
Switzerland is unique because it's an ethnically homogenous fortress filled with mountain jews who won't accept any migrants who don't offer notable economic benefit to Switzerland itself. I hate the "Swiss example" because it doesn't represent what firearm ownership should be. Rather than empowering the individual and protecting their place in society, Swiss armament is only a measure taken to ensure the survival of the nation-state in the event of war.

Quote
>comparing smoking and drinking to owning a weapon

not even relevant
Literally why not, other than your cultural bias? Cigarettes and alcohol have done quantifiably more damage than guns have in the United States. Faggots keep telling me they're not comparable but refuse to explain why beyond "hurr guns were made to kill!!".

Quote
You didn't even attempt to address his (valid) point.
My point is none of these shootings would even happen if gun stores were smart enough to discriminate and pay attention to who they're selling to.

Paperwork coming from the salespeople I have no problem with. I'll jump through a private business' hoops to buy ammo if the information regarding my transaction remains private.

My problem is with increased meddling from the state in the sale of arms. The entire fucking point of the second amendment is to empower the American people and dis-empower government, domestic and foreign. The more say Uncle Sam has in who has access to the means of lethal force, the less the 2A is able to do it's job. There's a reason the amendment says the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, rather than just saying that arms will not be prohibited.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

you can still have the right to personal ownership of a firearm without it being as easy to buy as toothpaste
But private business owners have no right to discriminate!

They should have to do business with any customer no matter how sketchy they look!

The more time I spend on this forum the more I'm into gun control. Flee is just too convincing and impossible to refute.
Sorry fam but nobody has the right to determine what private property another person can own so long as they are not actively interfering with another person.
The consequences of gun ownership in the United States have given appreciable enough reason to argue that having one doesn't really do anything productive
That is the idea, yeah. I have a gun so that I won't be forced to use it. It's called deterrence. I want it to sit under my bed unless I'm taking it to the range. It isn't supposed to be a daily thing.

and, at its worst, is responsible for mass killings of innocent people.
Are you implying that the mere presence of arms causes violence? Do I need to explain why this is retarded?
Quote
I vehemently disagree with the idea that I'm depriving any person of their "Rights" by preventing them from attaining something created for the purpose of killing.
You're denying a person of their RIGHTS by preventing them from doing something that has no direct or inherent impact on you or anybody else. It's essentially the same thing as a smoking or liquor ban.
Quote
You don't need a gun.
I don't need a fast car or a bottle of fireball, either, and those things together kill more here than guns do.

Fuck, I don't need a swimming pool, and those alone kill more than long guns every year.

I'd also hardly say we have a *unique* problem with gun violence.

A pretty decent number of countries have a much bigger problem with gun violence than we do.

It's just that most of those countries have already put forward arms control laws that don't fucking work.

Or they're war zones.
*developed
The only other "developed" countries are European shitholes with largely homogenous populations, less cultural glorification of violence, and much lower levels of poverty and inequality.

Also, the fact that you're looking at gun violence as if it is something distinct from regular violence says a lot about how propagandized these issues have become.

What does it fucking matter what tool a person uses to commit a violent act when he's committing a fucking violent act?

The issue is violence itself, and we're never going to get past violence while we live in a society run by institutions who derive authority solely from their capacity to inflict it.

Sorry fam but nobody has the right to determine what private property another person can own so long as they are not actively interfering with another person.

This is just basic human rights. All the bullshit carry statistics a europoor can cite (that fail to account for the myriad factors that influence violent crime) mean absolutely nothing in the face of a human being's right to self-defense and self-determination.

Sorry not sorry.

You should be able to run morrowind on those specs. But I know its also possible to hook up an external graphics card to a laptop and stream the game on it.
Do they work well enough though?

fuck this thing is light and works decent but system requirements lab says it can't even run morrowind

my old laptop that I played vidya on is dead

can I hook up like an external graphics card or some shit so I can play NV and Morrowind again? Something?

A dedicated rig will out of the budget for a long time from now.

nigga I started on NV

but the fact that I recognize the older fallouts as being objectively superior despite this isn't a mark against me, it's a mark against Bethesda
I wish people would stop looking at F1 and 2 through rose tinted glasses.

Please elaborate how isometric gameplay that resembles assigning a formula to a spreadsheet is in anyway hardcore rpg characteristics.

An rpg is supposed to immerse you in a world that differs to ours. If you want Fallout to return to its roots then open up Microsoft Excel.
notice how I said nothing about the gameplay style?

Isometry vs fps is hardly the issue here.

He isn't though, because NV was his first Fallout. He's just echoing what he's seen people say online.
yes, any opinion that contradicts yours is entirely parroted and cannot be genuinely felt

because of this, any criticism of your favorite game is invalid

For role playing games, meant to have more immersion than other genres, adding points to a skill bar and seeing percentages change is a lot less immersive than leveling up by choosing a relevant ability to unlock.
Too bad then that Fallout 4 isn't a role playing game

Except mass shootings haven't been done exclusively by white people alone... The fuck is this idiot on about?
It's mostly white people though.
most of the population is white people though
Nah that doesn't work here. Because if you guys are going to bring up race when it comes to crime, be consistent.

The majority of these shootings are done by mentally fucked white teenage/young adult males.
nigga do I bring up race when it comes to crime?

Again, white people make up a decent majority of the population. So it is reasonable to expect the majority of crimes to be committed by white people.
You do.

I'm not talking about the majority of crimes. I'm talking about these mass shootings, which are mainly done by white people.

But there you pale skin demons go again trying to change the rules and shit. Suck my dick.
give me an example where I've said anything about the correlation of race and crime that wasn't backed by statistics.

I know you're going for the "conservatives say blacks are criminals" strawman, but I've never held that position so don't bark up my asshole about it.

Yes, most mass shootings are committed by white people, because there are more fucking white people. That's just statistically reasonable.

It's not even an RPG anymore, having no skill-based stat system. Skyrim is more of an RPG than this shitheap.

Never giving Bethesda another fucking cent.
