The last thing I remember reading on this was last week about the protests at the University of Missouri. In that article the reporter that made it was pretty viciously attacked by these protesters for simply taking pictures and trying to ask some question to compile his article. So being that they're attacking someone for practicing freedom of speech and press they've pretty much lost all credibility from me for whatever it is that they're protesting about; that of which I'm still not entirely sure.
freedom of speech is pretty much dead on campus.
Yeah I found the article in question
http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2015/11/how-campus-activists-are-weaponizing-the-safe-space/415080/
They basically created a 'safe space' where reporters weren't allowed because the protesters were afraid they would put a negative narrative on any article. At various points, they intimidate him. Ultimately, they physically push him. But all the while, they are operating on the premise, or carrying on the pretense, that he is making them unsafe. Like the article says they basically weaponized "safe spaces."
academia is dead

Chance Ward, a black sophomore who majors in critical theory and social justice, said that he has been called the N-word at campus parties.

Am I just an asshole for thinking that these moderate Muslims that are fleeing from Islamic government tyranny should group together and fight for their own land back instead?
it really wouldn't be any better. Having hundreds of little village militias fighting each other and the big boys would just be messy and lead to longer-lasting bloodshed. That's not even factoring in ideological and ethnic divides regionally and locally. At best (a best that would never happen), Syria would end up a cluster of poor, occasionally warring city-states. At worst, we'd be looking at some Somalia-tier bullshit. The only real passable option at this point IMO is to get a stable government together uniting the Arab sunnis and shia. Assad is an option for that but he's probably alienated too much of the population to maintain any level of stability. Meanwhile it is vital that two or three states are established as safe-havens for frequently-abused minority populations like Assyrians, Yazidis and Kurds. Syria as it was is long gone but there is some small hope for stability down the line if the various superpowers play their cards right.

They're only refugees if they plan to go back when the dust has settled.
Good luck getting rid of them.
>Implying the "Dust" can "Settle" within any of their lifetimes.
Syria will still be a shithole long after this generation of refugees have died. Put yourself in their shoes; would you honestly want to go back to such a despot when you've found a new home that's sixty times better?
Okay cool, so call them what they are if they aren't going back- migrants.
A refugee takes refuge, not residence. You don't get to take the title just because it makes your cause look prettier politically.
ref·uge ˈrefˌyo͞oj,ˈrefˌyo͞oZH noun a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or trouble.
ref·use belongs in the trash, not posted here. You don't get to act like this post isn't shit because you don't know english.
Where'd you pull that definition from? Webster? Your asshole? The term refugee has for a very long time implied temporary relocation to a safe place, fam. I've always heard it in that context and have always encountered others with the same understanding. I'm sorry the common conversational understanding offends your sensibilities.

FUCK this french flag on everything bullshit. This is slacktivism at its highest. Slapping blue, white, and red on the white house doesn't solve any problem and it doesn't help anyone in France. Is anybody else getting annoyed by this faggotry? There are actual ways to help out, but this is not one of them.

Sure we can sit here talking about how much we hate(or don't hate) Islam, but what do we purpose we do about it exactly?
Buy a plane ticket to turkey and go east from there.

Mother fuckers don't realize core values of Islam are simply not compatible with western societies.
The cores value of Islam aren't really that far off from the other semitic religion that makes up a third of the planet. It's the little things, not the big things.

WHERE WERE YOU WHEN CHINA WAS READY TO FIGHT ISIS? >China's Xi says willing to join France in combating terrorism > Nov 14 China is ready to join France and the international community in stepping up security cooperation and combating terrorism, President Xi Jinping told French President Francois Hollande on Saturday, after attacks in Paris that killed about 120 people. >In a telephone call to Hollande, Xi also condemned Friday's attacks, offering condolences to the victims and their families, according to comments published on the Chinese foreign ministry website. >Gunmen and bombers attacked restaurants, a concert hall and a sports stadium in the French capital in what Hollande has called an unprecedented terrorist attack. What exactly is it about Islam that makes it seem so more prone to violence? I'm only recently starting to consider the possibility that it's actually not just the crazy people, it's part of the doctrine.
It was founded by a literal warlord and in 90% of the areas it makes up the majority religion it was spread through violence and coercion.
It also politicizes itself, which most religions don't do.
christianity- politicized judaism- politicized buddhism- politicized hinduism- politicized confucianism- politicized taoism- politicized
the list goes on. try again.
Christianity was politicized by Constantine and other political figurws. It does not politicize itself like Islam does. Judaism is an ethnoreligion and as such is only politicized when Jewish ethnicity is. All the others you listed are only politicized, like Christianity, when leaders apply them in that way.

Islam CANNOT be separated from violence. Islam was founded on and first spread through violence. Muhammad was a fucking warlord.
If you want to know why Islam is so prone to this shit, blame it's founder and the concept of martyrdom.

Lets face it for girls all you need to be is skinny. When it comes to guys you need to be in great shape, look great and have a large dick. Basically you need to look something like that guy in Jurassic World.

Follow the British model, limit how much universities can charge so the prices aren't extortionate and make it easier to pay it back.
Why limit them? Its a choice, if people are willing to pay 60k a year to go to NYU, then let them.
You could easily go to a CC for 4k a year or just not go to college at all.
Well by letting universities charge what they want they essentially become an option only for the rich.
this is literally the opposite of how for-profit business works unregulated
