Unless you're living in Juarez or some shit there's really no reason to have an unsecured and loaded firearm in your house with a kid around. But if you actually intend to use force to defend your home, leaving everything in a locked safe is the dumbest thing you can do. There should always be at least one defensive arm readily accesible in case of emergency. Living on a military base I'm required to secure any firearm behind a minimum of three locks -- e.g., a deadbolt, safe, trigger lock, regardless of whether I have kids.

It's not so much a middle ground as instead of choosing between an asshole and a dick, just dropping both. I'd be totally for Palestinian nationalism as a reaction to Zionism if most Palestinians weren't absolutely insane and generally kind of retarded. Israel really shouldn't have happened, but Israelis as a people are now established and settled in the region. They're basically equivalent to Afrikaners and Brits in South Africa. It's their home too and you can't just run them out, which is exactly what Palestinians would do given power. Palestinians being crazy fucks is largely Israel's fault, but this won't magically be reversed by dissolving Israel. The ideal solution would be a single state that isn't violent and doesn't play favorites, but that will never happen. If we're going to be realistic, the least shitty choice is a 2 state solution. So yeah, in this case we should pursue le ebin middle ground.

Right, so think how fucking hard it will be to find a job when the labor market is flooded with BAs. You're not wrong, but it already is absurdly difficult to find a job without a BA. Especially if you're like me, and you outright refuse to work certain jobs, because I have various moral quandaries with them (the food industry, the military, etc).
What the fuck does that matter? You having a moral distate for military service or food work doesn't make them bad jobs, it means you're picky. And they will likely pay even better to attract workers if need be. These jobs will always pay a lot because they are dangerous but need to be done. I don't disagree--the work needs to be done, no doubt about that. But this just sounds like coercion to me.
So much for individual sovereignty. "Do your little job or die."
In what way is this coercion? The dirty, dangerous jobs are not the only jobs that can make an uneducated worker a decent living, in fact they offer a more than decent lifestyle if you play your cards right. It is entirely one's choice to pursue these, there are no threats. Military, which will fucking pay for college, being the most obvious. Great, more coercion.

I have issues with the military too but to act like it isn't a viable option for large swaths of the populace just because a few habitual overthinkers dislike it is silly. You later go on to state that we should instead focus on strengthening our K-12 education. I can't disagree with you there. However, you would also have to change how K-12 is structured, because right now, it's structured to hone only a handful of basic skills necessary to live in our society.
In other words, even if you have no interest in history by the time you reach high school, it doesn't matter--you have to take history. Even if your time would be much better spent taking a class you actually would have greater interest or passion in.
College, on the other hand, allows for specialization--something high school does not afford you.
That said, the liberal arts program is dogshit and it should be abolished.
What do you think of the notion that education should be offered in a specialized format at the high school level? My high school cooperated with a local community college to offer inexpensive specialized training to nursing students and those interested in business, and the school offered an in-house Agriculture program.

yes, it's an amazing game. Personally I think Medieval 2 is the best in the series, but Rome 1 is definitely up there. If you're looking to buy the newer ones, I'd say skip Rome 2 and go with Attila, simply because the mechanics are far more fleshed out, it's darker, and uhh... yeah.
