Stop the blanket statements everybody~
If you're going to refute the claim that there is a problem with normalization of rape and sexual assault in most of the major Islamic cultures, do it now.

We're at war with ISIS, not the Muslim community.
Lmao
Last time I checked this was the serious board
The fact of the matter is that the "Muslim community" is, at least in part, supporting groups like ISIS. Different Muslims back different organizations, but we've all seen the numbers. A huge chunk of the world's Muslim population is supportive of these anti-egalitarian agendas, and the number condemning them is far smaller than the press wants you to think. ISIS, Al-Nusra etc fighters don't just materialize out of thin air with a beard and an AK. They come from this supposedly innocent and tolerant "muslim community".

I'd argue that the "moderates" aren't even practicing Islam that seriously, somewhat akin to reformed mainliner protestants. Picking and choosing what parts of the religion to ignore so that they can be "progressive".

you have to be overly ideological to the point where you're up your own ass to think democracy is bad.
What a ridiculous and arrogant notion.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Tahir_al-Jannabi

In 930, he led the Qarmatians’ most notorious attack when he pillaged Mecca and desecrated Islam’s most sacred sites. Unable to gain entry to the city initially, Abū Tāhir called upon the right of all Muslims to enter the city and gave his oath that he came in peace. Once inside the city walls the Qarmatian army set about massacring the pilgrims, taunting them with verses of the Koran as they did so.[3] The bodies of the pilgrims were left to rot in the streets or thrown down the Well of Zamzam. The Kaaba was looted, with Abū Tāhir taking personal possession of the Black Stone and bringing it back to Al-Hasa.

No... The worst are teenaged white kids from Southern Suburbia. Those ones who try so hard to be all street and ghetto, but were dropped off by their Volvo Minivan driving soccer mom

« on: March 24, 2016, 05:32:20 PM »
I really wonder what language I would have spoken had the Muslim conquests of the Levant never happened.  Ew maybe Turkish gross
Islam helped the Turks conquer the Levant. It took down a Sassanid Persia and much of a Byzantine empire that were crippled by decades of brutal and extensive warfare. This is how the Arabs, now united, were able to defeat forces larger and more advanced than theirs (although not as large and advanced as Arab historians want you to think). Later, Turks BTFO the Arabs.

Had this not happened, it would be unlikely that either empire would fall so soon, and one or both might have had the chance to recover fully.

You'd probably speak some more developed form of Aramaic, maybe Greek if your family was upper-class.
You seem to have a pretty good grasp of history, tbf.

What are your main areas/periods of interest?
Thanks fam, most of what I know I got from 4chan-inspired amateur research and wiki binging.

I guess the single thing I know the most about is the Winter War of 1939. But I lean toward anything Roman or Persian, Classical and Antique Greece, Eastern Bloc, early Christianity and the pre-renaissance mediterraenian.

Millennials are ruining the world.
Please, we haven't had the opportunity yet.

Just you wait and see, we're going to ruin it so much harder than you Gen X faggots.

Also, you should all reconsider the Rome comparisons I've made in the past.

Pax Americana, baby.
America is the new Rome is my meme thank you very much.

But yeah, there have been a handful of Pax *insert here*. Pax Britannia, Pax Mongolica, Pax Europaea. It's more of a general and loose term at this point. I'd have said Pax American was more a thing after the Cold War ended, and up until 9/11.
I would say right now that we're struggling to maintain it, and the question of the day is whether our hegemony will be reaffirmed, or slip away.
