The Flood / Re: So Verb, is it true?« on: April 07, 2016, 11:41:17 PM »
I am effectively vegan for two days out of the week, so I think I could give SOME input. I've found tofu is a good way to make up for the leafy nature of most plant based foods, although it isn't quite as good as real meat, which is fine for my purposes, I just want to feel full on my fast days.
Other than that, I eat a lot of rice, and beans if I can get them. I mostly eat from a buffet-type cafeteria on campus, so I am limited in what foods I have access to. Haven't taken up vegan cooking yet. But, I fast only some days for religious reasons, not 24/7, so I don't know much about the nutritional side of things. 1506
The Flood / Re: So Verb, is it true?« on: April 07, 2016, 11:36:00 PM »Is it common for vegans to supplement meals with protein powder? It seems to me that the lifestyle would be much easier with a few scoops of protein each day, then you just need carbs and fat which are easy. Even easier if you're pescatarian and have access to some of the healthiest foods available.Consider though, a lot of protein powders use animal products. Especially those that are intended for /fit/ types to enhance their gains. 1507

Serious / Re: Democracy-loving moderates strike again« on: April 07, 2016, 12:36:33 PM »2. Why does it seem the Kurds are the only ethnic group in the Middle East who just want to be left alone and in peace but always have to fight? We support the Kurds and as far as I can remember, they've always been against any sort of real terrorism.Because that's what the media wants you to believe. Why do they want you to believe it? Because Kurds are our allies right now. Just like the Mujihadeen were gud boi freedum fighters back in the 70s and 80s. Kurds aren't as bad as the other major players, don't get me wrong, but they're hardly angels. In order to cement their percieved legitimacy in the region, they have made attempts to claim achievements and monuments of other cultures and groups in the area. This includes replacing the original names of places, cities, and monuments with Kurdish names, and colonizing towns where they are a minority with more Kurds, in order to Kurdify the areas. Assyrians are the biggest victims of this revisionist history, because they have a small population and, as a mostly Christian ethnic minority, have no political backup from the Arab Muslim majorities in Syria and Iraq. Assyrian diaspora work hard to make this known, but propaganda from the likes of CNN is all that really reaches the public ear. Even back in the day, the Kurds weren't exactly clean. Kurdish tribes were a major participant in the Christian genocides during and after WW1, helping to kill millions of people (mostly Assyrians and Armenians, the Greeks were further west and targeted mostly by the Turks themselves) at the instruction of the Ottoman/Turkish government. Of course, the Kurds are not a monolith, which actually makes them much less trustworthy. The biggest factions of Kurds are split between the Iraqi Peshmerga, and the Turkish/Syrian PKK terrorists. The PKK combine the worst elements of ethnic nationalism and Marxist thought. I like to shit on Turkey a lot for their treatment of minorities, but the PKK are not good guys themselves. They have killed innocent people in the past and would be happy to do so again, in the name of Kurdish nationalism or socialism either/or. If an independent Kurdistan were established, there are a few things you can expect. A) infighting between moderate nationalists and PKK factions, B) Revisionist history, and C) Abuse of minorities within Kurdish territory, particularly Assyrians, but Arabs as well 1511

And what's with this weird lefty delusion that every cause they champion is only held back by muh ebul corporations, anyway?
The NRA, and the gun lobby in general, is funded mostly by members and donors. The rest of the money comes from gun manufacturers, who make their money from gun owners- because, surprise, people fucking love guns. The gun community is aware of the role the manufacturers play, and if you pay attention you'll notice they're very apprehensive about buying from companies that align themselves with anti-gun or even "compromise"-seeking people or policies. There are a lot of people who will never buy a product with Bill Ruger's name on it, even though he died years ago and the company is now staunchly pro-2A. Recently, many people have abandoned Troy Industries' products because they hired a man who was involved with the Ruby Ridge incident. The only beef I have with the current gun lobby is it doesn't do nearly enough to fight for A) home-built firearms and B) imports, the latter of the two being absolutely crucial if you want to make armament and defense feasible for low-income families. American guns are just too expensive for their mostly mediocre quality as is, and competition from Europe and China would help drive quality up and force costs down. 1512

A PC rig is just not going to be in the budget for a long time.
But I may have a part-time job this summer, and I'll be sharing an apartment during the fall semester, so I'd like to buy something I can use to chill with my friends and roommates and entertain ourselves when we're not going out or watching movies. There are a few games I'd like to pick up MSGV Arkham Knight GTAV BF4 or whatever flavor of the month big team shooter Mass Effect Andromeda if it isn't ass Maybe Halo MCC And I'd like to borrow my lil bro's copy of FO4 just to see if it's as bad as it looks. So, Xboner or Pisspoor? 1519

It was created to keep leverage against the government wasn't it?I'm actually part of the camp who believes that the "being necessary to the security of a free State" shows the real intent as being able to put up some resistance to foreign threats, not our government, as we were given the means to bring about change to that in very peaceful means via the constitution itself. |
