They generally lack flavor at all so you just toss some honey or syrup or jelly in them and they're not bad.
If you ever make them at home, cook them in a ratio of 3:1 beef to cream or milk, and they'll be amazing.

Well, the Heer is woefully underequipped and last I looked in to it, motorized,mechanized, and armored brigades lacked proper budgets for maintenance... So I'd guess that out of their close to 400 tanks and 150 spg's they have about 250 and 100 in full working order with supplies for combat missions.
Some ruskie backed rebels could easily have liberated that many late soviet pieces.
