As a general rule, Cali only sucks if you're living there and like firearms or knives in a hobbying interest.
The geography of the state is cool as shit, being right in between a very large mountain range and the coastline with a lot of varying elevations, contrastable to states on the east coast, such as Jersey or the eastern end of VA, or the Carolinas, where they're largely flat from the coast until you hit Appalachia.
A quick google search tells me you'll be at the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains, which is a cool as shit location for outdoorsman stuff.

This carpenter steel is pretty cool though. I knicked the fuck out of my edge in two places cutting zip ties off of steel poles to get orange webbed fencing off of them after an airshow to years back, like, it was bad, but it sharpened up really easy and was simple to re-edge on the sharpmaker (granted I have the extra diamond rods for aggressive blade re-profiling) and it's still held up pretty darn great.
They used to be almost half way up the edge deep.
Man I love this knife.
The manix trans lw, the Kershaw Ken Onion Scalion (which I have in the rainbow anno) and the CRKT Lucas Burnley Squids (which I have four different bhq elusive versions) are like, my favorite EDC's

sounds like a pretty serviceable steel
i've had experiences with 1095 where i've run off where i was cutting and hit solid fucking steel diamond plate and the edge literally had no problems afterwards
i used my 940-1 to cut through a fuckton of copper wires bunched together and it tore a little tiny bit of the edge out but it didnt really knick it
it just was like... lower around that area
bruh, 1095 is like, motherfucking modern sword steel. I'd hope it can hit metal and not fuck itself up.
