Except the US has never supported ISIS. The Syrian government is fighting at least two rebellious groups at this point - ISIS and the more moderate rebellion. On top of this, the rebels are fighting ISIS as well, as ISIS is killing their families, destroying their towns, etc.
The US has supported the more moderate rebellion group, including funding them with weapons. We have never, and continue not to, support ISIS.
And before anyone tries to jump on this, no, the group we fund is not AQAP related. Our dealings with them in the 80's are not going to happen again.

I could even say that several Germans fighting for Nazi Germany were not Nazis. Just a random interjection here, I've come to believe that this was the case for a majority of the Heer, Luftwaffe, and Kreigsmarine. Waffen forces are a little hard to imagine not being into the State's ideology, but there were foreigners like Torni who only joined the SS to fight Russians on the eastern front, and late war we saw the young, disenchanted SS officer Kurt Schrader who abandoned post and went with Lee and Gangl's joint force to liberate Itter Castle. He wasn't the only one who thought like that. And that's today's little historical quip.

I'm not sure how relations between Jews and the Ottomans were, so I'm not sure about the social climate in the territories years after the empire's fall. Considering that many Jews fled to the holy lands and the Palestine area, it couldn't have been as bad as Europe.
