I watched the first ep of this damn ship anime. It's utterly absurd and the premise is more ridiculous than armored warfare being an all-girls school sport. I think I'm going to like it.
Also, I feel like I should have recognized more ship names than I did...

Is jhp hollow point? idk what soft point is. I imagine getting shot in general would make me stop what I'm doing and start swearing and praying with extreme enthusiasm, why does different kind of ammo matter so much for self defense?

The kind of ammo you're shooting has so many effects on tissue damage and penetration factors. There's a good reason you hunt with hollow tips, and FMJ 30-06 would just go clean through a deer without much of an exit wound. That's the same logic used for defense ammo. You want to put as much damage on the target as you can and not have to worry about overpenetration causing the round to fly in to something or someone else after exiting the intended target.
I thought all hollow point ammo had a copper jacket, and doesn't all modern ammo have a jacket?
Okay, but if regular FMJ just goes right through the target, then why is the majority of military ammo not JHP? Wouldn't you want to cause as much damage to the target as possible?
Kinda related, does it really mean that much when people talk about the stopping power of a handgun caliber? I've heard people say this plenty of times before that they would like a .45 better, or that the military should go back to the .45 since it has more stopping power. Is there really that big of a difference between a 9mm and .45 in stopping power from a handgun, and is stopping power even the big of a deal in the first place?
There's international law banning expanding ammunition from use in international warfare. May or may not count as a serious warcrime. I never looked in to it much, I just know it's there. I'm not nearly enough of a ballistics nut to tell you the characteristics of 9x19 vs. .45ACP, but one of the big advantages of the nine is grater ammo capacity. One of the largest complaints about the specific Beretta M9 if I recall right was that id doesn't like sand. Like, it REALLY doesn't like sand.
