The Flood / Re: What's so entertaining about Nascar?
« on: April 27, 2015, 11:29:55 AM »
It's more entertaining than F1, but that's not saying much
God, F1 is so fucking boring...
Same with Indycar. The pack is so separated that there's hardly any major passing on larger tracks.

But anyway, NASCAR is fast and features the most passing action of any major motorsport. You won't find other races where drivers will go three, sometimes four wide around the track. Add in  the high average speeds and you've got a very exciting spectator event. I'll agree that listening to it is pretty boring unless you really follow the series like some diehard fan.
Crashes are just icing on the cake, really. Most folk don't watch the race for them.

This is part of the reason we think Americans are dumb. They understand very little about what they hate.
Great way to generalize.
It is every non-American's duty to generalise you strange lot a lot; yet still somehow a lot less than you do to everyone else.

Correct? Learn cultural differences. You might suffering from superiority complex which is sad since an American has less arrogance than you at this moment.
You were the one arrogant enough to try and correct me in the first place. :^)

it is because it's not French.
Nothing good ever came from France, barring Opinel knives and Mr. Lafayette.
And photography, rubber/latex, the discovery of radioactivity, stethoscopes, codeine, antibiotics, Aspirin, hypodermic needles, the TB vaccine, insulin pump, automobile, parachute, internal combustion engine, helicopter, concorde, bicycle, etc etc etc.
too bad everything you listed was made better by other nations.
And lolConcorde crash.
They only really retired it after the slump in passengers following 11/9/2001 though.
They only had one crash, and that was in 2000.
And now supersonic commercial and bizjet type certificates are essentially nonexistent, so its even more irelevent.

All signs pointed to Japan continuing the Pacific War, costing more lives, resources and money than the bombs ever incurred. (The casualties of the Pacific War was already in the 30 million+ whereas the Atomic Bombs killed 200,000, just to add a little addendum).

Call it consequentialism if you want, but it certainly was justified.
Yeah, 30 million soldier deaths. People who knew what they were signing up for. You can't compare the deaths of military enlisted men to the deaths of civilians.
Not really, considering a lot of men were conscripted to fight. The draft isn't exactly voluntary.

If you want to point fingers here, point it at the Japanese government for their heavily imperialistic culture, reluctance to surrender, and the capacity to hone both civilians and soldiers into literal weapons of war to be expended if it meant taking out a few American lives.
Bad troll is bad.

2/3rds of US forces in WWII were draftees.
It's still comparing apples to oranges. Why didn't we drop the bombs on a Japanese military harbor? Why did it have to be a city?
Hiroshima was the headquarters of the Fifth Division and Field Marshal Shunroku Hata's 2nd General Army Headquarters, which commanded the defense of all of southern Japan. It was also a communications center, a storage point, an assembly area for troops, and a military-industrial center powered by the mass-scale forced labour of Koreans.  The Navy Elite Academy was on the near island of Edajima. Kure, less than 15 miles from Hiroshima city, was another major shipyard, where the famous Yamato was constructed with material and labor from Hiroshima

Nagasaki was one of the largest sea ports in southern Japan and had grand industrial importance. Ordnance, ships, military equipment, and other war materials were manufactured there. The Mitsubishi Steel and Arms Works was located there. Mitsubishi produced over 10,000 Zero fighters and the battleship Musashi.

I mean, you can literally find this information with a two second google search.
During World War II, the 2nd General Army and Chugoku Regional Army were headquartered in Hiroshima, and the Army Marine Headquarters was located at Ujina port. The city also had large depots of military supplies, and was a key center for shipping.[12]

One bus not enough.
July 7 2005 best day if my life.

That's kind of like the boots bombing in four lions though. You'd struggle to find people who still gave a shit about it, when we put up with the IRA doing far worse all the time for the previous few decades <.<
Doing worse? The IRA did nothing wrong. God willed it.

So would this change our collective view on global warming? If it's proved true to be exaggerated.
Loosely speaking, rather than being fucked in 100 years, we'll now only be fucked in 200 years.
We should still try and not end up fucked though.
