yawn, I've accomplished 10 times what you have. Don't question my intellegence.
See when you say shit like this in every single argument you get into it just shows how insecure you are.

Not insecure at all. I just find it hilarious that every single debate I get into, someone has to bring up my intellect. It's funny when I've accomplished more than everyone here except maybe 2 or 3 people. That's not me gloating, it's just a fact.

People bringing up my intellect can't even work a proper job, get a degree, or move out of their parents homes. Makes no sense to me.
They're probably younger, that's why. You have a kid and everything apparently.

What do you do anyway for a career?

Work in Marketing for the NJ Devils franchise. Mostly dealing with the Albany Devils, their minor league AHL team.

But yeah, they're younger, but usually only by 3-4 years. I'm not that old lol.
Oh that's always a job that interested me. Good on you.

Only downside is the commute to Albany 1 day a week is like 3 hours.

You drive right by me and have never stopped for a beer.

Serious / Re: What is stop and frisk, and why is it a big deal?
« on: November 11, 2016, 12:05:09 PM »
From the Wikipedia article:

Quote
The stop-question-and-frisk program, or stop-and-frisk, in New York City, is a practice of the New York City Police Department in which police officers stop and question a pedestrian, then frisk them for weapons and other contraband; this is what is known in other places in the United States as the Terry stop. The rules for stop, question, and frisk are found in the state's criminal procedure law section 140.50, and are based on the decision of the United States Supreme Court in the case of Terry v. Ohio.[1][2] About 685,724 people were stopped in 2011.[1][3][4] However, the number of stops has been reduced dramatically since then, to 22,939 in 2015.[3]

The vast majority of those stopped were African-American or Latino.[1][3][4] According to a 2007 study, this disparity persists even after controlling for "precinct variability and race-specific estimates of crime participation".[5] Over half were aged 14-24. [3] In 2011 police stopped 46,784 women, frisking nearly 16,000. While women represented only 6.9% of stops in 2011, guns were found in only 59 cases; but there were 3,993 arrests of women. Guns were discovered on 0.12% and 0.13% of women and men respectively. [6]

She's an illegal and goes to Harvard?
She was valedictorian in high school.

We had a couple "Fuck Muslims", "Fuck Gays", "Go Trump" written on bathroom walls. Nothing to cause alarm, but still disheartening.
A teacher at old my high school wore a Trump shirt to work. The school made him cover it up.

Lol I'm glad illegals are taking spots at Ivy League universities from OUR citizens.

Because colleges certainly never accept students from other countries, ever.

Should we ban that too?

nope. thats perfectly fine. They obtain visas and its all legal and documented.

Yet that takes away an American students spot, which is what you're complaining about in this argument:

Taking a spot away from an American citizen. Thats how it effects me. Theres one kid out there that wasn't able to get into his/her dream school because of a fucking illegal.

Its legal though. Thats all that matters to me.

Then that's what you should be arguing and saying, not "A kid didn't get into a dream school cause of an illegal!" Because  you'd have no excuse to defend any foreign students on campuses with that logic.

But thats my logic. The student is an illegal. Shouldn't even be able to attend the school. A kid (legal) had their spot stolen.

The legal student should have tried harder.

See? I can give shitty opinions not based in facts just like you.

Whelp. The derogatory slurs began on campus today.
My sister's friend at Harvard is here illegally. She's been staying at a friend's house because one of the roommates turned on her.

We had a couple "Fuck Muslims", "Fuck Gays", "Go Trump" written on bathroom walls. Nothing to cause alarm, but still disheartening.

100% was written by a liberal. I'd bet my house on that.

Of course

american liberals will use scapegoats like third party voters and abstaining voters to deny the fact that their candidate was awful, they wont move any further left because that would endanger their bottom line. will probably try to pander to some of the more "reasonable" republican voters. we'll know more about how the party changes its platform/overall approach as we edge closer to the next midterms.

Probably not
excellent rebuttal your argument has won me over

I've given my point.

Obviously the Democratic Party isn't going to become the new Green Party. But we can likely expect a shift to the left of Clinton and Obama in terms of policy.

Or we could literally divide the whole fucking country in half. Let Trump be the president of west and Clinton be president of the east.

Or we could go to war.
Or you calm down and accept that Trump is President for (at least) the next 4 years.
HA!

Now why the hell would I go and do something like that.

Because even I, an apparent Marxist-liberal (According to some people), can accept it.

Doesn't mean I'll like it, probably never will.

I can't say I feel all that sorry for illegals if they're deported. Maybe, apply next time?
maybe fix the fucking immigration system
Yeah. But if you literally just hop over the border, you should expect to get sent back. You can't just walk into the country and call it home.

Well no. But if you are a child (or the children) of people who hopped the fence and had no choice or say in the matter, why should you be sent back from what is arguably your home?

Immigration isn't just a black and white issue, because it would actually be pretty easy to solve. Building a wall only fixes the issue of accessibility, but fails to address the actual problems.
Not only that but the reason so many well meaning people come illegally is because the current system makes it impossible for them to do it any other way.

Also true.

Well yes. Their government can now admit they were in contact with the Trump campaign.
And thank God for that.

 ::)
Cooling down tensions with Russia was a wise move on Trump's part. Simply by getting elected, Donald Trump has accomplished more for our relationship with Russia (and by extension the security of Europe) than any President since the Cold War.

Yes, the guy who has argued that Russia did not invade Crimea is good for the security of Europe.

In related news, Howard Dean is running for Chariman of the DNC
Is this good or bad news for the new version of the DNC?

Depends where you want the party to go.

"Dean was the chairman from 2004-2009. During the 2006 and 2008 elections cycles, Democrats gained 52 House seats, 14 Senate seats, 7 governorships and the White House in 2008. During his DNC tenure, Dean focused on a fifty-state strategy and to build up the party even in more Republican strongholds."

I'm not sure I support him as Chairman, because he is still an aging guy who would be out of touch with the liberal wing, but the guy knows how to organize in the states, and can do it well. He should have some semblance of power

Honestly, I feel bad for them. If they can't deal with this shit while still in school, theres NO CHANCE they'll ever be successful in the real world.

Well guess what - these students that you are deriding as immature, spoiled, whatever word you wish to use, they will be taking control of governments, both state and federally, in 10-20 years. You may not like it, but it is going to happen.

I can guarantee you that none of the kids crying in a safe space will be involved in government in anyway.

I'd argue against your guarantees, but I was proven wrong in the past.

But I can assure you that I will be, so your "None of the kids" is already wrong.

Oh I can't do my schoolwork.
Oh I can't go to my job.
Oh I need a safe space cause I'm triggered by the news.
Oh I have PTSD.

Yes, the next generation's fear of policies that would inherently harm many of the values they stand for is something that would cause fear and upset.

For now, students and millenials are just trying to come together for one another. And if that is just a big issue for you (Or anyone), then you have to sort out priorities.

lol its a very big issue for me. Its fucking embarrassing that a bunch of 20 somethings are literally crying over an election. Wahhhhh my safe space.

And here I thought your civility from the past two days would stand.

I could retort that it's embarrassing that a bunch of fifty somethings spent the past eight years crying over a fictional issue that Obama was born in Kenya and is a Muslim, but I have a bit more class than that. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and reacting as such.

This has been a wild few days. Most of my friends have been to safe spaces in thier colleges because they were so distraught. They were also upset that there were no feel good 'everything is gonna be ok' emails from staff.
Yeah, my campus LGBT center was extra packed yesterday. Don't know about today, I won't be on campus.

Our campus has been holding protests.
Idk man, i guess i just dont get why these people are content to huddle in thier crying corners instead of busting down dnc doors to demand answers.

Because there will be a time for that, in the coming months. Rebuilding and reshaping the Democratic party is going to be a long process.

no issue, i just dont get how that takes priority. I would think to strike while the iron is hot and while people still care about thier candidates is the best move but
¯\_(ツ)_/ ¯
You gotta do whats best for you, but i dont see the long term payoff.

Because there isn't much that can be done, at least right now. At least not until the start of 2017 when the DNC and Congress begin picking their new leaders. People can write their representatives and senators if they wish, but until they reconvene, it won't do much.

Until then, the next month or so will just be a period of frustration and anger.
