-No but there are common traits that make games RPGs. You keep using "RPG" as though WRPGs are the only type of RPG. -In order to be an RPG you have to have some say in the creation of your character, objectively. Dark Souls really gives you nothing to differentiate your characters outside of weapons and whether or not you choose to kill random NPCs. You do realise Demon/Dark Souls/Bloodborne have character creation, class selection and character upgrading, right? -RPGs have typically never dealt in skill alone, whereas Dark Souls does. Okay. That doesn't mean anything. The Witcher 2 and 3 require an amount of skill when in combat. This doesn't mean they aren't WRPGs. -Mass Effect is more open world than Dark Souls. I think you'll find it's actually the other way around. Mass Effect is broken up into separate areas, whereas DS/BB is completely open and explorable. My view of RPGs comes from what RPGs originally were, which are games like Dungeons and Dragons.

The combat is good there's a sense of satisfaction when you hit an enemy, it isn't senseless like skyrim but it's definitely not on par with souls get outta here
It's satisfying because it's no small wander than you managed to hit something-Souls has a poor combat system, at least the first does-can't speak for the second

Which Microsoft can change at a whim's notice or revoke anytime they want. A similar thing like this happened back in 2008 when some people were making a Halo strategy game for the PC. They were given a cease and dicist notice because Microsoft worried it could impact sales of Halo Wars.
Which would just further cement MS as a shitty company.
Project Contingency has been in development for years, and Installation 01 has been in development for about a year IIRC.
If they were worried about them impacting sales, they wouldn't have published a fucking Halo game for PC, which has been modded into Halo 3, and they would have shut down both Project Contingency and Installation 01 long ago.
That or they just think these shitty game developers are talking out their asses (like most indie devs, just look at Deci lol), and won't commit an action to them unless they pose a threat to sales. From the little footage and working versions they've showed over the past couple years, Microsoft probably thinks it has nothing to worry about. But the moment these things gain traction, you can guarantee the hammer will be brought down upon them, just like they have in the past.
Are you missing the part where they published a Halo game on PC recently? If they were so concerned with community made Halo games on PC impacting sales they wouldn't have published Halo Online.

Final Fantasy and Morrowind are two completely different types of games. There's more than one way to make an RPG. There's no set in stone tickbox when making an RPG. Dark Souls has a fixed role you play, you do not really have a say in the story beyond trivial things like "should I kill Solaire for no reason or not?" Fixed roles aren't JRPG exclusive traits, and custom characters aren't mandatory for something to be a WRPG. The Witcher has a fixed character role, is that a JRPG? No, it absolutely isn't. Dark Souls is mostly based on skill, and not the level you are, further alienating it from RPGs in general. Oh look, another thing that doesn't dictate whether an RPG is a JRPG or WRPG. Dark Souls is about patience and not mindlessly running into enemies. It is not open world in the way a game like Morrowind is, and although it is "open" it does not give you the freedom that a game like Morrowind does. Yet another thing that doesn't dictate whether an RPG is a JRPG or WRPG. Mass Effect isn't open world. The Witcher 2 isn't open world. They're both WRPGs. Not having an open world doesn't mean they aren't WRPGs, nor is it a WRPG trait. You have a very narrow view of what an RPG is.
