Besides returning characters, not really. It's pretty beginner friendly. It comes with a booklet gives you a small description of the returning characters and also gives some information about the universe. The game also recaps some stuff and has a bestiary menu that gives you more information about characters and the universe.

I don't understand what FIFA did differently from NFL, NHL, NBA, etc. It's just another sports game. Angry Birds was a rip-off of an older Newgrounds game that got lucky.
