Why in the fuck are we still fighting the coventant? Didn't 343i get enough shit for beating the dead horse on halo4?
Its not the same Covenant that was in Halo 1-3, its called the Storm Covenant led by Jul Mdama.
I know it's not the same covenant. It's just the fact that we're still fighting them when we have a new whole set of badguys to fight.

well yea. The whole rouge covies just seemed like a waste of story and just unnecessary even as enemy filler.

No, they're still active. The threat of an activation is still there. With an extremist faction that still believes in the Great Journey, it's still very much relevant.
