I might get a PS3 at some point then
there's a couple games I want to play, and I'm guessing PS3's are relatively cheap now. I got a PS3 slim 250gb model for £58 the other week on ebay. You definitely should get one, if not for the complete MGS experience, then for the other franchises you missed. Aside from MG, I want to play Killzone, Last of Us (Shut up I think it looks cool) and Shadow of the Colosus HD port. ? TLoU is a fantastic game. Nobody is judging you for it.

Rising is fun.
It's silly fun.
I'm one of those cool edgy kids who doesn't really enjoy a game unless it takes itself seriously
Not in the gears of war sense of "manliest man competition" serious, but not being over the top
Except the lego games. Those games are great.
MGS does have some silly stuff in it, like pictures of random Japanese girls being on the inside of locker doors and toilet cubicles.

Revengeance looked... over the top, I guess. just ridiculous.
I can get past some janky gameplay for a cool plot. I still happily play mass effect 1, after all.
Thanks for the advice ^ ^
Rising Revengeace was developed by Platinum Games. Those kind of games are their thing.
Ah.
In regards to the playstation thing. They're making a shit ton of titles available on launch of the program. It's a 360 emulator rather than a MCC style port; they said the hardest bit is getting the license to port the games. So hopefully they'll be ported. I'm planning on selling my 360 when the compatability is out as the only games I still play on it are my RPGs.
Are there many for the PS2? I still have one of those and PS2 games are dirt cheap now.
It'd still be more difficult than a regular game. Getting the license will be the biggest problem if you've been following the shitshow Konami has been performing. It'd be nigh impossible at this point. -You can play MGS1, MGS2 and MGS3 on PS2. If you play them on PS2, be sure to get the Subsistence version of MGS3, because that version has MG1 and MG2 (the original MSX2 Metal Gear games) bundled in it. -Peace Walker is a PSP game but is in the HD Collection. It's also quite mandatory for MGSV. -MGS4 is PS3 only. -MGSV Ground Zeroes is currently free on Xbone. -MGSV The Phantom Pain releases September 1st.

Is Revengeance 'that game' for the series, like Reach for Halo, or is most of the Metal Gear series like that? Because if it isn't, I might have a look into it.
Yes. Yes. Yes.
Revengeance is the furthest thing you could get from Metal Gear.
Like if you have a 360, get the HD Collection.
Ah.
Because ever since watching that, it pretty much turned me off metal gear. I'm not a big fan of the japanese thing of having people wielding swords the size of helicopter blades flying through the air. I like stuff that takes itself more seriously.
I might look into getting the HD collection once XB1 gets backwards compatibility. I'm planning on having another go at dark souls at some point.
Don't expect the HD collection to be backwards compatible for a loooooong time. Metal Gear is kinda niche, and it's a collection, so making it backwards compatible won't be as straightforward as the other games. Honestly, I'd recommended getting a PS3 if you ever do get into it so you get the whole experience (not counting Portable Ops). MGS4 is PS3 only, and you won't get MGS1 on the 360 version of the HD collection.

It's sad knowing 343 won't ditch the shitty outdated human weapons because people will just cry about it.
But... but muh shitty and useless SMGs!!
the crying about the rocket launcher was bad enough
god help them if they try to make the battle rifle a reasonably balanced weapon
there will be tears
but muhh one gun that dominates and makes the rest of the sandbox the equivalent of throwing rocks

So, I have a question. A while back I watched NerdCubed playing Metal Gear Revengeance, and it looked ridiculous and really put me off getting into the series.
Is Revengeance 'that game' for the series, like Reach for Halo, or is most of the Metal Gear series like that? Because if it isn't, I might have a look into it.
It's the only game in the series that's like that. The others aren't anything like it.

with Big Boss as the main protagonist. no
You don't like Big Boss?
Yes, but I also like Solid Snake. I'd rather they both stayed.
Solid Snake would still exist, though.
It's not like Solid would simply cease to exist. I really have to find this article, it got me really hyped about it.
I actually like Solid more but I think he would be way cooler to have as a side character. Like, imagine him as a buddy in MGSV (obviously it wouldn't work but just use it as a frame of reference.)
i like snake as a protagonist. relegating him to a side character is a disservice.

It's like you guys don't take into account the MP when comparing Halo games.
They don't.
I'm sure my opinion of the Halo series would be massively different if I disregarded the hundreds upon hundreds of hours I spent in matchmaking/customs/forge, and judged it solely on a few linear 3-4 hour campaigns.
they aren't that short even if you skip all the cutscenes

>no "Bring back Kojima and Metal Gear" comment
You disgust me, Venom Snake.
I left out MGS for a reason, I don't want Konami to bring it back. They should leave it alone while it still has dignity.
They probably won't leave it though. Mobile games for days. Give the rights to Kojima where they belong.

Ahem. Cough.
There's a difference between small powered exo-skeletons, and thick industrial working machines.
It didn't actually take 500 years to develop a decent powered exo-skeleton.
The Mantis is noted as not being native to combat, and instead, an industrial machine, alongside the Cyclops, if you played Halo Wars. Industrial machines need to be big, in order to construct or move big, end of story on that one.
Small, human sized powered armour existed in the Haloverse for some time, but the main issue was, it was too good.
A regular human body couldn't cope with the speed or strain of things like MJLNOR.
The technology was always there in the background, and, I wouldn't be surprised, if lower tiered and lower powered suits existed, but were just impractical.
Especially, if we take into account the Haloverse's use of drugs. Drugs that could augment your natural strength and yada yada anyway.
umm, wrong

Every game is that way. You have to save money, find shortcuts and save time wherever you can. Plus working with ancient hardware is a factor.
That being said, Halo 4 is the best looking 360 game and pushed it far as possible.

Considering how 343 was understaffed the entire way through development/ still building their team, H4 is really well made.
How have I not heard this until now?
Because it's not true
septy is at it again moron

The lore aspect of the DLC is irrelevant to the point I'm making. You're more than welcome to argue that Javick should have been free instead of being bundled with the CE and sold to people who didn't have it. However the fact remains that it was content that was not finished before the final build was submitted to MS and Sony for certification. If the content of the DLC wasn't important lore wise to ME nobody really would have cared about it.
Talk about being EA's wet dream
So what you're saying is that you can't refute me.
Giving people more in-game content that affects the game than someone else isn't good in any way and shouldn't be supported at all. There's no excuse for day 1 DLC besides money grubbing. It's called Day One DLC, because it's ready for the games' launch, and not because "oh shit better make more content for our loyal customers because we care about them dearly".
I'm guessing you're okay with pre-order bonuses too?.
I'm presuming you're discounting armour skins and stuff.
Because they are generally made by artists when they don't have anything to do at the end of development, and aren't affecting the game.
Well yeah. Who cares about skins?

On Vita you can map the controls to the joystick, if you want. Dunno about PS3 though.
You can do it on PS3 also but it's better with the DPAD.
I'll try both, but I might stick with the d-pad anyway.
Make sure you use the thumbsticks when you fight Sniper Wolf. Using the d-pad is awful with the sniper.
Sniper Wolf? I'm stuck on Revolver Ocelot right now -___-
UPDATE: Ok, got past Ocelot (finally) and now I'm outside. Picked up a FAMAS, a silencer for my pistol, and a mine-detecting device, which I suspect is about to become very important. Taking an anime break right now.
I'm so careless, missing visual cues and such. Truth is, the most stealth game experience I have is a few Splinter Cell games here and there (the earlier ones I've never even finished yet, and I never played any of them as much as they probably deserve) and those two stealth segments in Ocarina of Time. I'm not nearly as patient as I used to be, but I'm improving through trial and error. The cardboard box has saved my life exactly one time so far.
Also picked up MGS HD Collection at GameStop today. It was lot cheaper than I thought it would be. Apparently MGS3 features Metal Gear 1 & 2...? The box doesn't mention it, though.
Left off at the Psycho Mantis boss fight. Most of my attacks weren't doing anything, and Campbell wouldn't tell me anything useful for some strange reason. The TV input fakeout gave me a weird feeling, even though I haven't had a CRT television for years. Looked up the fight to find out what I was doing wrong and remembered about the controller port switching, and only THEN did Campbell mention it. RQ'd for the night, but about to play more later today.
>.> even though I got the HD Collection, I might eventually pick up Substance and Subsistence on PS2 for my own vanity.
You already have Substance and Subsistence though.

I've played 1-3 MP, and i already think 2 is the best, so
in terms of campaign, yeah, i have no idea
Halo 2's campaign is easily the best of the three. The longest too. CE was pretty weak and simple. Had a basic plot because it was a new Universe. 2 added a lot more to the universe, and gave us a better look at the Covenant too. 3 barely has a story. It's mostly "kill the bad guys, cheef" until you're at least half way through. Shame you don't have a 360 or Xbone. CEA adds a lot more story content, and Halo 2 on Xbone does too. If you do start to like the series, read the books, because they actually have a lot of lore and story content in them that Bungie ignored like idiots.

What's the Day One DLC again? Is it the Battle of Jakku map? Because at least that's going to be made available to everyone for free a week later. Sure, it's still shitty, but it's still much better than the ME3 day one DLC and many other examples
Battle of Jakku is a free DLC map pack that comes out a month after launch. The only day one thing I can think of are the early unlocks for the special edition buyers.
