Old is in quotations because he doesn't. He's always looked really young.
He didn't start to look young until the PS3 games. They even shortened his height a little bit too.

Basically, you THOUGHT it would suit your tastes, but it didn't. It's still objectively a good movie because it perfected what it set out to do, and I'm only saying it deserves the praise it gets.
Again, I'm not about to get into an argument about film, but just because a director might have intentionally focused drastically more on one element of a good action film, doesn't mean their negligence towards the others can be ignored because it was "Intentional." You could apply this to any bad movie and justify its quality with, "Well, that's the kind of film he meant it to be."
He didn't neglect them, though

Honestly if they went with that instead of what we have now the series wouldn't be as big as it is now. The art style the series has causes it to stand out unlike what it did originally. What would stand out more to you if you picked up a case in each hand? Borderlands OG which uses the realistic art style or the Borderlands we have now.
The artstyle isn't why it's so popular. The over the top fighting, the absurd amount of guns, and general stupidity is.
