I have yet to play an Assassin's Creed since III - is there some overarching story between 4, Unity, and Rogue, like the Desmond Miles story? Or is it just bullshit?
-AC3, AC4 and Rogue are the Kenway Trilogy. -The modern day story is in AC3(continued from Revelations), it is continued in AC4 from AC3, and is continued from AC4 in Rogue. -Rogue's ending is directly related to Unity's beginning. -The modern day story isn't present in Unity besides a few cutscenes. Just a warning; AC3 is pretty shit.

Games that have annual releases are bad.
Not if they're done right. If it has a good story, decent amount of changes/additions, etc then there should be nothing to complain about. Every company should have at least one annual release, so they can generate revenue to pay staff and work on new IPs
Assassin's Creed is boring as hell though.
